OVERVIEW:

The Class of 2017 in the Howard County Public School System was comprised of 3812 students who graduated from 12 comprehensive high schools. These students have distinguished themselves in many areas through their elementary, middle, and high school years.

SUMMARY OF THE

ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE CLASS OF 2017

Introduction

The Howard County Public School System’s Class of 2017 was comprised of 3812 students who attended 12 comprehensive high schools. Parents, teachers, counselors, administrators, coaches, support staff, and members of the community guided the members of the Class of 2017 to success.

The result of that convergence of human energy is truly impressive in terms of the data that follows; however, the results will only be determined in the future as members of the Class of 2017 exercise their full rights and responsibilities as workers, family members, and citizens in our community. The class has demonstrated a commitment to caring about others, volunteering in the community, and working together successfully for common causes and interests.

Findings

In a survey of their experiences in high school and preparation for college, 3,638 student responses were collected regarding plans after high school. The graduates in the class of 2017 have indicated the following:

Number Percentage Attend a four year college 2,634 69.1% Enter the military 130 3.4% Work full time 2013 9.4% Attend a two year college 1060 52.8% (full time .5%) Attend a trade or technical school 50 1.3%

Note: Students indicated more than one choice regarding their post graduation plans.

• 38 National Merit Finalist scholarships • 38National Merit Semi-Finalist nominations • 171 commended scholar nominations • 1951students offered at least one scholarship • $13,950,694 in scholarship money awarded to graduates for their first year of attendance

Conclusion

From the information presented in this report it can be seen that the Class of 2017 deserves praise and recognition for its accomplishments.
