HTKD Curriculum Level testing for Attendance The required number of practices before one can promote. (Number in parenthesis is approximate attendance frequency required to test at every belt test) Attendance records are kept and will be checked before pretesting. No more than ¾ of attended practices may be of one type (sparring vs. poomsae). Specialty and Cross-Training (eg: flexibility, Jiu-Jitsu) classes do not count towards the attendance requirement. Classes taught by a student with equivalent or lower belt rank than the tester do not count toward the attendance requirement. Office hours with a student of higher belt rank, however, do count towards this requirement. Attendance of a tournament will also count towards attendance, 1 practice for participation in poomsae, 1 practice for participation in sparring. Pre-Testing A 30 minute pre-test is required. Korean Words and phrases that the tester is expected to understand and say. Poomsae The form(s) that will be presented at the belt test. Stances, Strikes, and Blocks Generally those from poomsae. Should be technically correct, and able to travel down the line and transition between stances. Include all techniques previously tested. Kicks Should be technically correct, on both legs, in the air or on paddles. Include all techniques previously tested. Combo Kicks Down the line, smoothly, without pausing during the combo. May be in the air or on paddles. The combos shown are examples, and may vary. Sparring May be only techniques, or proper sparring matches, depending on rank. A sparring match will be against someone of higher belt rank. Board Break On a 1” board.
