It’s a brand new school year, and with it comes brand new music. From new releases to music festivals, the borderland is jam packed with music frenzy. While many eagerly anticipate the Sun City , others rant about end-of-the-summer releases. The stu- dents here at Montwood are not exempt from this music craze. This September, El Paso is going to host a rather large event—Sun City Music Festi- val. It will take place Labor Day weekend, September 3rd and September 4th, at Cohen Stadium. Not only is this El Paso’s first major electronic music festival, but it is also hosting more than 20 globally recognized electronic artists. Crystal Castles, Wolfgang Gartner, , Armin van Buren, Paul van Dyk, LA Riots, and Funkagenda are some of the artists that will delight El Pasoans with their electronic beats. Due to a growing scene in the El Paso metro area, a large number of people are planning to attend SCMF. So hurry up and purchase your ticket before they’re sold out. Prices are subject to change.

With the dozens of albums that come out week- ly, the widely hyped joint effort that came out recently was the Jay-Z/Kanye West collaboration album Watch the Throne. Kanye and Jay’s goal for this album was to protect hip-hop by producing music that would not be overshadowed by other trending genres such as Elec- tronic and Indie. Filled with detailed music and arro- gant lyrics, the rappers consider this album to be “lux- ury rap”, boasting about their luxurious lives but also adding some “soul” to their music. The album reached number one on Billboard’s top 200 charts and is still maintaining its position. Being two of the greatest hip- hop artists of all time, they certainly outdid themselves with this album. So if you haven’t listened to this album definitely go out and pick up a copy of it, or download 2012 Aries it off the Internet...legally of course.
