About Bangkok Bangkok is the capital and most populous city of the Kingdom of Thailand. The city occupies 1,568.7 square kilometres (605.7 sq mi) in the delta in Central Thailand, and has a population of over 8 million, or 12.6 percent of the country’s population. Bangkok’s largest parks include the centrally located Lumphini Park near the Si Lom – Sathon business district with an area of 57.6 hectares (142 acres), the 80-hectare (200-acre) Suanluang Rama IX in the east of the city, and the Chatuchak–Queen Sirikit–Wachirabenchathat park complex in northern Bangkok, which has a combined area of 92 hectares (230 acres).
