There may be one recipient, more than one recipient or no recipient in a given category. There may be occasions in which there are nominees and no recipients. It is important to note that the Suncoast Chapter conducts separate and distinct Regional EMMY Awards programs in English and Spanish. This evening we will be recognizing the recipients for both programs. I am so honored to be with all of you tonight. Although this night has always been an opportunity for colleagues near and far to reunite, raise a glass and celebrate each other’s accomplishments. This year brought an unprecedented set of challenges that have converged like no other moment in our lifetime, forcing us to celebrate together – apart. And celebrate we must! This night is for you as we reflect on your accomplishments during a year where you were forced to completely redesign the way you worked to continue to be a trusted and comforting voice serving your communities – covering essential employees and medical professionals in the front lines, as well as bringing to the forefront the stories of families who suffered devastating losses, local business owners and employees’ struggles and organizations providing resources and support to those who needed it most. A year where you had to report from home or report wearing a mask when in public – covering months of social unrest, severe weather and, most recently, a lengthy and eventful presidential election. A year where your passion and commitment to your profession were strengthened and reaffirmed. It is my hope that, despite all of that, you also found an unusual opportunity to perhaps spend more time with your kids and family at home, more time to reconnect with loved ones in new ways and more time to rediscover things you may have forgotten you enjoy. Tonight, we are proud to honor your contributions to our region and our industry. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show!
