    Laudatio von Frau Justizministerin Uta-Maria Kuder anlässlich der Verleihung der Ehrenbürgerschaft der Stadt Schwerin an den Landesrabbiner Dr. William Wolff am 27. Januar 2014 in Schwerin Es gilt das gesprochene Wort! Sehr geehrter Landesrabbiner, lieber William Wolff, sehr geehrte Frau Oberbürgermeisterin Gramkow, sehr geehrter Herr Stadtpräsident Nolte, meine sehr geehrten Damen und Herren, wir sind heute hier im schönen goldenen Saal des Neustädtischen Palais zusammengekommen, um einen ganz besonderen Menschen zu ehren. Einen beeindruckenden Mann, der sich um ein weltoffenes und demokratisches Miteinander bei uns in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern große und bleibende Verdienste erworben hat. Als Zeichen der Wertschätzung Ihres Einsatzes für unser Land wurden Ihnen, hochverehrter Herr Landesrabbiner Wolff, bereits viele Ehrungen zuteil. So erhielten Sie 2006 den Siemerling-Sozialpreis der Dreikönigsstiftung Neubrandenburg und die Ehrendoktorwürde der Ernst-Moritz-Arndt Universität Greifswald. Ein Jahr später folgten das Bundesverdienstkreuz I. Klasse, und der Israel Jacobson-Preis der Union progressiver Juden. 2011 ehrte Sie die SPD Landtagsfraktion mit dem Johannes- Stelling-Preis. Heute hat Ihnen, sehr geehrter Herr Landesrabbiner, die Landeshauptstadt Schwerin nun die Ehrenbürgerwürde verliehen. Herzlichen Glückwunsch. Es ist mir eine große Ehre und Freude, heute Ihr Leben und Ihr Wirken für unser Land zu würdigen. Meine sehr geehrten Damen und Herren, mit Bedacht wurde der heutige Tag für diesen Festakt ausgewählt. Der 27. Januar ist seit 1996 ein bundesweiter Gedenktag für die Opfer des Holocaust, für alle Opfer des Nationalsozialismus und des Vernichtungskrieges. Eine Zeit der Ausgrenzung, der Vertreibung und schließlich der Vernichtung eines Volkes, in die Sie, hochverehrter Herr Landesrabbiner, hineingeboren wurden. Sie erblickten am 13. Februar 1927 im Berliner Hansaviertel, einer gut bürgerlichen Wohngegend nahe dem Tiergarten, das Licht der Welt.
