 Summer Literacy Adventure The Department and the JRF office are partnering with First Lady Ann Scott as she presents the Summer Literacy Adventure. During the three state park visits, Mrs. Scott will encourage students to continue reading over the summer in order to avoid the “summer slide.” Summer Literacy Adventure Events are scheduled at the following sites:  June 24, 2015 – Topsail Hill Preserve State Park, Destin  July 8, 2015 – Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park, Homosassa Springs  July 15, 2015 – De Leon Springs State Park, Deland Students are encouraged to take the SLA pledge at SummerLiteracyAdventurePledge where they commit to read books throughout the summer. During the beginning of the 2015-16 school year, Mrs. Scott will visit schools with the highest percentage of participation. Please encourage your schools and students to take on the challenge to read every day, take the pledge and let books take them on a summer adventure.

 Just Take 20 Summer and Just Take 20 are here! Summer provides many opportunities for Florida’s parents and families to visit the Just Take 20 Website and learn how to engage in literacy activities with their children. Just Take 20 is designed to empower Florida families in playing a vital central role in the literacy development of their children by finding those teachable moments in 20- minute increments within their daily lives. This campaign involves families of students in grades (K-12), including English language learners and students with literacy learning challenges. It entails a framework of 20 family literacy strategies aligned to the Language Arts Florida Standards and provides an online environment that can serve Florida families as a beneficial resource, particularly during the summer months. On the Just Take 20 website: www.justtake20.org  Families can create their own personalized accounts, build custom family literacy plans, and engage in literacy activities together at home.  Teachers can register for educator training to learn how to support parents and families at their school. Teacher registration is available through the Just Take 20 Website.

We invite parents and educators in your school district to join the Just Take 20 community by visiting www.justtake20.org
