But he’d rather fix an old wood boat than anything else. The 1929 Bird Boat OSHOTS 2 Oriole is owned by Jock and partner Hugh Harris, H and is the latest of Jock’s re-fits. Last month’s “Woodie” regatta had the old, tra- ditional wood boats out at it again, racing off the Cityfront. Jock had Oriole flying around the course with her shiny new suit of Pineapple Sails. Bird Boat sails aren’t simple. The main is huge; the PHOTO ERIK SIMONSON/WWW. boom sticks out way past the transom. The little jib has an aluminum headboard, like most main- sails. But Pineapple Sails is up to the task, sensi- tive to the requirements of the Bird Boat’s class specifications and wooden spars. Every boat is special: Its measurements, where it sails, the owners’ goals and sailing interests. The boat’s sails need to match those goals and specif- ics. Going cruising? We’ll send you off with the sails that can take you anywhere. And back home again! Want racing sails that go for more than one or two seasons? We make those, too. Oriole* Give us a call. Every sail we build is made right here in sunny Alameda, California. YOUR DEALER FOR: Musto foul weather gear, Dubarry footwear, and Spinlock Deckwear Sails in need of repair may be dropped off at West Marine in Oakland or Alameda. *Powered by Pineapples Phone (510) 522-2200 Fax (510) 522-7700 www.pineapplesails.com 2526 Blanding Ave., Alameda, California 94501 June, 2013 • Latitude 38 • Page 3 CONTENTS BOAT subscriptions 6 calendar 10 LOANS letters 22 sightings 72 from great vallejo race 86 Trident Funding bart simpson 94 petaluma promenade 98 ac magic 102 "a fresh tisc beer cans 106 approach max ebb: all dressed up 112 from people the racing sheet 116 you can trust" world of chartering 122 changes in latitudes 130 classy classifi eds 146 In Northern California call JOAN BURLEIGH advertisers' index 157 (800) 690-7770 brokerage 157 Cover: Greg Mullins' Farr 52 Zamazaan enjoyed perfect conditions for May's Great Vallejo Race.
