1 Welcome to the 34th Cygnet Folk Festival 8 — 10 January 2016 There is a magical, intangible element to all festivals. Certainly, folk festivals are a wonderful celebration of music, musicians, dancers, poets and lov- ers of all things folky; but we also celebrate the tribal nature of human beings where we gather to honour and enjoy these very special events that are festivals. Cygnet Folk Festival is also a celebration of a diverse interception of communities. We hold the Welcome 3 festival in one of the most beautiful towns in the Huon Valley and of course with gratitude, enjoy Information 4 the invaluable support of the local community; many of whom provide essential services in the Masterclasses 7 festival management and smooth running of the weekend. Georgian Supra 21 Programme Grid 22 In 2016, we also have some new and special events occurring during the weekend. The Friday Performers A — Z 28 night at the Sailing Club will see a Georgian Supra (traditional feast) featuring food, toasts to all manner of things and much singing. We have the Festival Welcome of the St James’ Pilgrims with Acknowledgement 49 a designated orchestra and choir. We will also extend the youth participation with a featured Tickets 51 Youth Showcase and a special forum moderated by Folk Alliance Australia. In 2016 Cygnet Folk Festival will also partner with Woodford and Illawarra festivals to launch the inaugural Tasmanian Festival of Small Halls in the weeks following the festival. Festival Food There are many good food outlets throughout the town along with accredited food vendors set up in Loongana Lost Children Park, The Piazza and at The Paddock all offering a wide variety of delicious food and drink. Lost children can be escorted to The Volunteers Centre (St James Catholic College quadrangle). Please report missing children to The Volunteers Centre. Consider writing your mobile phone number on your small child’s Water hand if you think they might get lost. Clean drinking water is available from the water trailer in The Piazza, so don’t forget your water bottles to save on waste. Lost & Found A lost property box will be populated over the weekend. First try the venue where you think you may have left Dogs something. Ask the Venue Manager, and then try lost property in the Volunteers Centre at St James. While we all love our four legged friends, please leave them at home where they are safe and happy. The festival is a very busy, noisy and unpredictable environment and this can scare and upset some dogs. Please have your dog on a lead at all times.
