There is a magical, intangible element to all festivals.

Certainly, folk festivals are a wonderful celebration of music, musicians, dancers, poets and lov- ers of all things folky; but we also celebrate the tribal nature of human beings where we gather to honour and enjoy these very special events that are festivals.

Cygnet Folk Festival is also a celebration of a diverse interception of communities. In 2016 Cygnet Folk Festival will also partner with Woodford and Illawarra festivals to launch the inaugural Tasmanian Festival of Small Halls in the weeks following the festival.

Joseph Jordania is an Australian-Georgian ethnomusicologist and evolutionary musicologist and professor. Fiddle tunes from East Coast Canada with Tim Chaisson from The East Pointers (Workshop Room 3) As one of the famous PEI ‘Chaisson family’, Tim is a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter who has been part of his family’s Celtic ensembles practically since he was born! He has also amassed an impressive number of awards and accolades, including COCA Emerging Artist of the Year and Music PEI Touring Artist of the Year in 2012, on top of being chosen as Musical Director for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s highly-publicized Royal Visit to PEI in 2011. Nominated for four East Coast Music Awards in 2013, including Entertainer of the Year, Tim recently celebrated his first ECMA win for Roots/Traditional Solo Artist of the Year.

An extremely gifted performer, Tim has always shone brightest from the stage. And regardless of whether he’s joined by a full band or simply his , , or , Tim makes his craft look absolutely effortless — the mark of a true artist.

The Festival Choir This years' festival choir have the opportunity to work with the exuberant and wonderful Betsy Hanson.
