LAWRENCE THOMAS AKARD, JR. – Died Sunday, February 26, 2017 in Temple, Texas at the age of 60. The cause of death was a heart attack. He was born in Houston, Texas on August 28, 1956. He is survived by his wife, Lisa, of the home. He served in the United States Navy from August 8, 1974 – 1978 with a tour in the Vietnam War in 1975. He was a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America – Waco Chapter #1012. CARRELL ALDEN “Gator” ALDEN – Died Saturday, March 29, 2014 in Lebanon, Oregon at the age of 75. The cause of death was mesolethioma. He was born in Laurel, Mississippi on January 5, 1939 to the late Thomas Rove Alden and Blanche Christina (née LaVigne) Alden. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann (née Pierce) Alden and his brother, Charles T. Alden. He served in the United States Navy from February 1, 1959 to February 1, 1963 with a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1961 to 1962. He was a Life Member of Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America – Albany Chapter #585. ARMON LEE ALLEN - Died Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at his home in DeSoto, Texas at the age of 70 after a lengthy battle with Frontotemporal Dementia. He was born November 11, 1946 in Oak Cliff, Texas to the late John Travis Allen and Dorothy Lee (née Kemp) Allen. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Peggy Jean (née Ennis) Allen and two children: Marissa Taylor (spouse Eric) and Jon Allen (spouse Kami). He was blessed with 4 grandchildren: Peyton and Josiah Allen and Travis and Emma Taylor. He is also survived by his sisters and brother and many nieces and nephews and cousins. Armon was a hard worker and always strived to be the best. He began delivering the Dallas Morning News by bicycle at age 12 and won numerous awards as an outstanding carrier. He graduated from Wilmer-Hutchins High School in 1965. While at Wilmer-Hutchins he was Junior Class Favorite, President of the Student Body and voted Most-Likely-to-Succeed. He was Salutatorian of his graduating class. He attended the University of Texas at Arlington majoring in Engineering. He married Peggy on June 1, 1968. Armon was drafted into the United States Army in November 1969. He was Outstanding Recruit of his basic training class in Fort Lewis, Washington. He was transferred to Fort Sill, Oklahoma for Advanced training in Field Artillery. He excelled in his training and was promoted to Staff Sergeant after a few months service. He was held at Fort Sill after his class to assist with training other classes. In September 1970 he received orders for Vietnam where he supervised Artillery crews on various fire base camps. His daughter, Marissa was born in November 1970, one month after being sent to Vietnam and she was 9 months old before he saw her in person. After being Honorably Discharged from the Army, he was employed in various occupations, including: owner/manager of a convenience store and salesman for a printing/copier company. He was employed by Bruning, Corporation where he sold and trained others on computer-aided drafting software for the first desktop computer stations. During this time, he traveled extensively, spending the week away from home and coming home on the weekends. He excelled and received numerous outstanding sales awards through the years. He was a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America – Mesquite Chapter #137. His son, Jon was born in 1973. He discovered he loved teaching others how to use a computer and took a job at Automated Office Solutions at the new Infomart building in Dallas, Texas. He developed curriculum and training materials while at AOS. He eventually began working for Atmos Energy and retired from there in December 2008 as a Supervisor of the Help Desk. Throughout his working career, he received high praise for his work ethic and ability to accomplish whatever task was set before him. Armon spent many hours volunteering for various church and civic organizations. He led the offering counting team at Trinity Church for several years and taught a Beginners Computer class. Armon loved to ride his bicycle and competed in many bike races. He was a good son, devoted to his parents until their deaths. He loved his extended family deeply. Funeral services were at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Trinity Church in Cedar Hill, Texas. Visitation with the family was before and after the service. Armon was laid to rest in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 12:30 PM with full military honors provided by the United States Army. WILLIAM H. “Bill” “Chilly” ALLEN, JR. - Died on Friday, November 18, 2016 in his home in Little Chute, Wisconsin after a short battle with brain cancer. He was 69 years of age. He was born on September 19, 1947, in Bradford, Pennsylvania, son of the late William and Margarette (née Chido) Allen. He was raised in Shawano, Wisconsin, and left home early to join the United States Army. Bill was very proud of his service from 1964-69. He was a medic during the Vietnam War. Bill was a Life Member and former President of Vietnam Veterans of America – Appleton Chapter #351. Bill married Donna Knaack on December 27, 1967, and together have shared almost 49 years of marriage. He was an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying hunting and fishing. Bill enjoyed time spent at the cottage on Loon Lake, and was always available to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Mostly, Bill adored his children and grandchildren. He was a wonderful father and "Papa" to his grandchildren. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Donna; his children: Kelly (special friend, Brian) Hammen, Cory (Pauline) Allen, Barry (Laura) Allen, and Joseph (special friend, Mandy) Allen; grandchildren: Katie (Chris) Kuna, Jacob Hammen, Monica (special friend, Dan) Hammen, Emily Hammen, Justin (special friend, Mariah) Allen, Abigail Allen, Madeline Allen, Nathan Allen, Jack Allen, and Marley Allen; great- grandchildren: C.J. Kuna and Saylor Allen; a brother, David (Wanda) Allen; brothers and sisters- in-law: Penny (Fred) Bartman, Jack (Ann) Knaack, and Donald "Butch" (Loralie) Knaack; an uncle, John (Janis) Allen; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorial services were held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, November 25, 2016 at Saint John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 323 South Pine Street, Little Chute, with Reverend Father Ron Belitz, officiating. ERNEST N. AMECUCCI – Died recently in 2017 in Angeles City, Philippines at the age of 88. The cause of death is unknown. He was born June 2, 1928. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America – Angeles City Chapter #887. He married Edna E. Amecucci on September 4, 1937 and then they got divorced on April 20, 1977 in Bexar County, Texas. They had two children one of which was James E. Amecucci who survives him. ERNEST remarried Song Amecucci on June 2, 1983, and divorced her on March 9, 1995 in Bexar County, Texas. THOMAS “Tom” AMIRANTE - Died Saturday, June 25, 2016 in Glenview, Illinois at the age of 66, after a courageous battle. The cause of death is unknown. He was born December 12, 1949 to the late Jessica Zweiger. Tom was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was the beloved husband of Bonnie (née Rozycki); loving father of Tiffanie (Jason) Dargenio and Tracie (Steve) Padal; stepfather to Ron (Kelly) Neroda; devoted grandfather to Dylan Thomas; fond brother of Larna Keane and Donna Amirante; uncle of Bryan (Kathy) the late Kevin, Christine, Carey and Jennifer, and; loving brother-in-law of many. Tom was the current Commander of the Niles VFW Post #7712 and a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America – Island Park Chapter #242. Visitation hours were on Wednesday from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM and Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 West Lawrence Avenue, Norridge, IL. Interment was in the Saint Adalbert Cemetery in Niles. MICHAEL R. “Mike” ANDERSON, SR. - Died Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Brooks Memorial Hospital at the age of 72. He was a resident of Cassadaga, New York. The cause of death is unknown. He was born on August 30, 1944 in Buffalo, New York to the late Frank Anderson and the late Grace (née Bauder) Schue. He was a 1962 graduate of Eden Central School. Mike was a Vietnam Veteran serving with the United States Army. He was employed 13 years in maintenance at Red Wing and seven years as a pre filter operator at Cliff Star. All through his life, he was involved in construction in one form or another.
