Starts: Saturday, July 14, 2018 Ends: Saturday, August 25, 2018

How do I enter? Come to the library any day starting Saturday, July 14th, sign up, create your book log to go into the community book log binder. Your log will be at the library to fill in all summer.

Who can enter? Any person who wants to!

Then what? Every time you read a book (or have it read to you), come to the library, enter the book title on your log. Every time you add a book title you get a raffle ticket to enter into the drawing. 1 book = 1 raffle ticket. The more books you read, the more raffle entries, the better chance you have of winning.

JULY EVENTS Friday, 7/6 @ 6:00 pm: Book Reading Daniela Tuly will be here reading from her new book, Hotel on Shadow Lake. Copies will be for sale at the event.

Saturday, 7/7 @ 10:30 am – 12:30 pm Ukulele Lesson & Jam Join us on the first Saturday of the month for a ukulele lesson and jam. We have ukes to borrow. Guaranteed to leave knowing a song!

Friday, 7/13 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm: Movie Night: Thor: Ragnarok Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok. But first he must survive a deadly contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger--the Incredible Hulk! PG-13, 130 minutes

Saturday, 7/14 @ 10:30 am - 2:30 pm: Summer Reading Ice Cream Sundae Party with Rescue Donkeys The Phoenicia Library kicks off its annual Summer Reading Program and Contest. Come by the Library at any point during the day to enter the contest (for more information on the contest see our website or ask at the library.) Meet some friendly donkeys (from 10:30-12:30) and make your own ice cream sundae! (Vegan options from Nancy’s Creamery will be available)

Monday, 7/16 – Wednesday 7/18 @ 9:30 am – 12:30 pm: Kids Beginners Robotics Camp A great way for kids to explore and learn about Robotics and basic Engineering, this 3-day workshop will teach kids to build and program increasingly complex robots using the Lego Mindstorm robotics kit. Led by software engineer and robotics enthusiast Chris Hendry, the workshop will allow students to remain focused on problem solving using technology as a tool, not as a game or social media device. Ages 9-16 (your child must be able to focus independently for 3 hours), advance registration required. Call the library at 688-7811 to sign up – space is limited.

Friday, 7/20 @ 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm: Vegan Potluck Bring a vegan dish to share. All welcome – vegans and non-vegans alike! Rebecca Moore, founder of The Institute for Animal Happiness, will be here to talk about her microsanctuary and the work of caring for rescued chickens. www.instituteforanimalhappiness.com

Saturday, 7/21 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Special Saturday Art Hour: Tie-Dye T-shirts Our Art Hour program is popping up on a Saturday! Come hang out with Stephanie and make a tie-dye t-shirt. Monday, 7/23 @ 4:00pm: Metal Detecting Workshop Learn about metal detecting and watch a live metal detecting demonstration in the library’s backyard.

Friday, 7/27 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm: Movie Night: Peter Rabbit An adaptation of Beatrix Potter’s classic tale. Peter and his sisters feud with their neighbor Mr. McGregor and it escalates to greater heights than ever before as they rival for the affections of the warm hearted animal lover who lives next door. PG, 95 minutes

Monday, 7/30 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm: Learn to Make Paper Flowers Join us to learn the art of paper flower making. All supplies will be provided. Registration required, please call the library at 688-7811 to sign up.

AUGUST SPECIAL PROGRAMS Friday, 8/3 @ 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm Recipe Hunters Sample a medley of traditional foods that The Recipe Hunters learned to make in the homes of locals from around the world. While you enjoy the food, The Recipe Hunters will give an interactive presentation with the stories of the people and culture behind each recipe. Friday, 8/10 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm: Movie Night: Paddington 2 While searching for the perfect present for his beloved Aunt Lucy's hundredth birthday, Paddington spots a unique pop-up book in Mr. Gruber's antique shop, and embarks upon a series of odd jobs to buy it. But when the book is stolen, it's up to Paddington and the Browns to unmask the thief.

Saturday, 8/18 @ 11:00 am – 12:00 pm: Special Saturday Art Hour: Squirt Gun Painting Join Stephanie for some wet and messy fun as we create art using paint and water squirters!

Monday, 8/20 – Wednesday, 8/22 @ 9:30 am – 12:30 pm: Coding Camp This camp will be focused on basic coding skills and problem solving; it is not about building robots. Instead, we will use pre-built robots and will learn fundamental (and some advanced!) coding concepts to get our robots to complete simple tasks. As the students' skills improve we will introduce more difficult problems (like navigating a maze) where students will learn to build more complex programs to complete the tasks. We will be using RobotC (a C based programming language) for programming the EV3. Ages 13 to 16, advance registration required. Call the library at 688-7811 to sign up – space is limited.

Saturday, 8/25 @ 12:00 pm: Summer Reading Program Closing Pizza Party & Raffle We’ll have a raffle drawing to select our child and adult winners, each receiving a prize valued at over $100! Also, a special prize for the family that reads the most books. Plus, pizza!

ONGOING WEEKLY PROGRAMS Every Tuesday, 10:30 – 11:30am: Together Tuesdays Join Janice as she brings story, craft and play to Tuesday mornings.

Every Wednesday, 4:30 – 5:30pm: Art Hour New art projects every week, for ages 3 to 103. Stephanie is bringing her own brand of creativity to Wednesday afternoons.

Every Monday starting July 16th @ 3:00 – 5:00pm: Math Help with Phyllis Rosato. Get those pencils sharpened! Phyllis is here to answer all of your math questions, from kindergarten to calculus.

July 10 – August 31, David Balinksy Reading & Writing Tutoring Help. Call the library to set-up a one on one appointment. 688-7811. For ages 5 and up.
