Welcome to the second annual performance of the FAU Dance Theatre Ensemble. 1 created the FA UDance Theatre Ensemble to exhibit works by established and emerging artists, offering aforum for faculty collaborations using dance and to showcase the wide range, scope and diversity ofdance. This program has faculty representation from the School ofCommunications and Multimedia Studies andfrom several legs ofthe School of the Arts within the FA U Dorothy F. Schmidt College ofArts and Letters - Visual Arts, Theatre and Dance. The range of collaborations extends to my colleagues within the local dance community as well.

His website, BAD MIND TIME™, (www.badmindtime.com) has received awards from NEW MEDIA and PRINT magazines, and won the audience award at the Stuttgart Filmwinter Festival for Expanded Media. It has been included in digital media exhibitions internationally. His latest film, Sticky Notes TM, was presented at the Zero Film Festival in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Bargsten taught at University of Iowa, Georgia Tech, Atlanta College of Art and University of Oregon before his current position at FAU. Clarence Brooks (dancer), assistant professor/director of dance, choreographs the Festival Repertory musicals, produces the Dances We Dance Performance Showcase and directs the FAU Dance Theatre Ensemble. He has performed with more than 50 American dance companies and toured the United States, Europe and Asia. Mr. Brooks can be seen in the video documentary, The World ofAlwin Nikolais. He received his MFA in dance from University of Washington, BPA in dance from Oklahoma City University and holds a certification in Laban Movement Analysis. Mr. Brooks is a member of Florida Dance Association and a board member of the Florida Dance Education Organization (an affiliate ofthe National Dance Education Organization). Dance Notation Bureau (established in 1940) for 70 years has committed itself specifically to the preservation of dance. Labanotation is a symbol-based language used to analyze, describe, and document movement. Labanotation scores, in the form of manuscripts, preserve not only the choreographic work but vital directorial and production information as well. Bill Evans (choreographer), has choreographed more than 200 works for professional dance companies, including Bill Evans Dance Company, Repertory Dance Theatre, Stars of American Ballet Theatre at Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival, Pacific Northwest Ballet, German Opera Ballet (West Berlin), Ballet West, North Carolina Dance Theatre, Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, Concert Dance Company of Boston and many others. He has been awarded several choreography fellowships and company grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Fellowship in recognition of his choreography. He has performed in all 50 states and in 22 other countries. He has worked as a guest artist in virtually every department of dance in North America, and has created or restaged three individual works and two full-evening productions under the National College Choreography Initiative and American Masterpieces, Dance-College Components programs of the National Endowment for the Arts. He founded the Bill Evans Dance Company in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1975, moved it to Seattle, WA, in 1976, and to Albuquerque, NM, in1988. The company has performed at the American Dance Festival, the Spoleto Festival of Two Worlds, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, and many other major venues. He is a distinguished professor of dance emeritus at the University of New Mexico and has been a visiting professor/guest artist at The College at Brockport since August 2004. He was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Dance Education Organization in 2005 and was named one of America's three favorite tap artists in the most recent readers' poll of Dance Magazine, which invited Bill Evans to write the "Why I Dance" article in the January 20:1.0 issue. Maryann Fichera (dancer), a FAU student pursuing a BS in mechanical engineering, was trained at Southern Dance Theatre in multiple dance disciplines. Stephanie Fries (dancer), a FAU sophomore studying exercise science and health, performed in The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Spartacus and International Dance Festival productions ofthe Space Coast Ballet. Saybel Guzman (graphic design artist) is a FAU graduate student with more than three years experience in the field of graphic design. Don Halquist (dancer) has danced with the Bill Evans Dance Company for 25 years, touring the USA, Canada, Mexico, Finland, France, Hungary, Australia and New Zealand. He has performed with the New Mexico Ballet and St. Louis Dancers and in the companies of many independent choreographers. He premiered his first solo concert in spring 2006 and his second in spring 2008. He is a Certified Teacher of Evans Laban-Based Method of Teaching Technique, which he has taught at The College at Brockport/SUNY, the University of New Mexico, Santa Fe Community College, Winnipeg's Contemporary Dancers, and the Evans Intensive Summer Workshops for :1.3 years. He earned a PhD in language, literacy and sociocultural studies from the University of New Mexico and is an assistant professor of the education and human development department and an adjunct professor at The College at Brockport/SUNY.

Guy Haubrich (lighting designer) began his technical theatre production studies at Broward College after years of crewing shows in professional houses and running lights and sound as a nightclub OJ. As an FAU senior he has designed lights for several department productions and hopes to continue pursuing his studies at the master's level. Diana Mighdoll Hoffmaster (lighting designer, choreographer, dancer), a MFA student in the Department of Theatre and Dance at FAU, teaches dance technique classes as part of her assistantship and will complete her degree in Arts Administration in fall 20:1.0. After receiving her BFA in dance performance from the University of South Florida, she performed with several south Florida dance collectives and continues creating as a freelance choreographer. Ms. Hoffmaster is the development associate at Florida Stage, south Florida's premiere professional contemporary theatre company. Jocely Jangada (graphic designer), a recent FAU alumna with a BFA in graphic design, has more than two years experience in the design field specializing in print work such as identity/stationary systems, posters/flyers, brochures and more. Jennifer Jimenez (dancer), an alumna of FAU, graduated with a BFA in Theatre and Dance. She has performed and competed in many forms of dance for the past 20 years, but was introduced to modern dance during her studies at FAU. Ms. Jimenez is ecstatic to be performing in this year's FAU Dance Theatre Ensemble concert.

Emilia Kawashima (dancer), an ocean engineering undergraduate at FAU, has more than :1.5 years of ballet and modern training. Ms. Kawashima is currently a full company member of Jubilee Dance Theatre and an elementary ballet instructor at the University Center for the Performing Arts.

Danielle Kehlmann (stage manager), an ocean engineering undergraduate at FAU, has more than :1.5 years of ballet and modern training. Ms. Kawashima is currently a full company member of Jubilee Dance Theatre and an elementary ballet instructor at the University Center for the Performing Arts.

Leanne Rinelli (dancer), an adjunct instructor at Buffalo State College, received her BA in dance from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Along with performances with the Bill Evans Dance Company, she has performed with Dayton Contemporary Dance Company II in Dayton, Ohio, and currently performs with Janet Reed and Dancers. Ms. Rinelli's work has been seen at the International Choreographers' Showcase in Guatemala City, Bari, Italy, Biel, Switzerland, and at the nnd World Congress on Dance Research in Athens, Greece. In addition to teaching and choreographing, she has worked as a teaching artist for the Arts in Education Institute of Western New York and is a Polestar certified Pilates practitioner. Currently, she is pursuing her MFA in performance and choreography at The College at Brockport/SUNY. Vanessa Rosen (dancer) is a FAU alumna with a BA in interdisciplinary studies in arts and humanities. An original member of the FAU Dance Theatre Ensemble, Mrs. Rosen has performed with Tranzendance Dance Productions, Muslnc: An Artists' Collective and is currently working on various projects within the dance community. Elisabeth Sainvil (dancer) is majoring in education and communication at FAU. Trained in tap, modern, jazz and ballet, she has been dancing hip-hop her whole life. She is an instructor for the hip-hop kidz and enjoys choreographing and showcasing her talent in various performance venues.

Rome Saladino (dancer), a Miami native, was a soloist with Southern Ballet Theatre, Icelandic Ballet and Sacramento Ballet. He starred as a sword dancer in Brigadoon, bottle and Russian dancer in Fiddler on the ROof, Player in Pippin, Caleb in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Anxious in West Side Story at Tokyo Disney. Now in his second season with FAU Dance Theatre Ensemble, Mr. Saladino has performed as an adagio dancer on cruise ships all over the world and continues to perform principal roles with ZMC Entertainment Inc.

Thomas Shorrock (technical director) received his BA in theatre from Florida Southern College and attended the University of Louisville where he received his MFA in stage design and technology. He has worked on over 100 productions and enjoys working in all areas of production in backstage theatre from welding to lighting design. He has been technical director for the Merry-Go-Round Theatre in Auburn, NY, for their summer season, and has worked at various other venues as lighting and sound designer, as well as technical director. Mr. Shorrock is a member of the United States Institute ofTheatre Technology and the Southeastern Theatre Conference.

Stacey Todd (dancer), a transfer student from Indian River State College where she received her AA in dance, is currently pursuing a BA in interdisciplinary studies in arts and humanities at FAU.

Rick Valicenti (graphic designer), the subject of the exhibition Curiosities: Rick Valicenti + 21 Century Thirst in FAU's Schmidt Center Gallery, is an artist, designer and founder ofThirst, a collaborative design studio in Chicago. Valicenti was born in 1951, and like other designers of his generation, his career as a graphic designer developed in step with the expansion and proliferation of computer aided design. Valicenti's work tackles sexual politics, seduction; and emotion as advertising, ego, uniformity and visual wordplay. In 2006, Valicenti received the AlGA Medal, the highest honor in the graphic design profession. H is also a member of the Alliance Graphique International and was awarded the AlGA Chicago Chapter Fellow in 2004. Valicenti has been featured in and received awards from leading design magazines such as Eye, 10, Graphis, Communications Arts, Print, Step, and i4 Design. His work has been exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art and the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. Various works are in the permanent collections of the Denver Art Museum, The Newberry Library and the Society of Typographic Arts Chicago design archive. Valicenti had lectured at colleges and events across six continents, most recently at 2009 Design Indaba, the world's largest multi-disciplinary annual conference in Cape Town, South Africa.

Charles Weidman (1901-1975) (choreographer), a dancer and teacher, studied with Eleanor Frampton, and Ruth St. Denis. He toured the world for eight years with Denishawn and, in 1928, he formed his first dance company in collaboration with Doris Humphrey. A choreographer of great renown, his work has been presented on the concert stage, Opera and on Broadway. Working with the sculptor, Mikhail Santaro, he established the Expression of the Two Arts Theatre in 1960'S and he continued to perform until his death. His students include Jose Limon, Jack Cole, and .

Courtney World (dancer) is a dance artist and educator based in Rochester, NY. She is an adjunct lecturer at The College at Brockport and The University of Rochester. She holds a MFA in performance and choreography from The College at Brockport and a BA in dance from The University of Buffalo. In addition to her ongoing work with Bill Evans in both tap and modern dance, Ms. World has performed with Assemblage Dance Company and KTD Inc, and currently performs with BIODANCE and Geometrics Dance Theatre. Her choreography has been presented in NYC and throughout the state at venues including The American College Dance Festival, ImageMovementSound Festival, Vision of Sound Concert Series, Artwalk Alive!, and Rochester Contemporary Dance Collective Performance Series.

Leni Wylliams (1961-1996) (choreographer), a Denver native, received his early training with the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble. While in NYC, he worked with choreographers Paul Sanasardo, Chuck Davis, Rod Rogers and Eleo Pomare, his mentor. In addition to Pomare's company, Mr. Wylliams worked with Joan Lombardi, David Taylor Dance Theater, Omega Dance Theater, Danny Sloan Dance Company and the Limon Dance Company. In 1992, he became co-artistic director and choreographer for the Wylliams/Henry Contemporary Dance Company in Kansas City as well as a professor of dance at the University of Missouri. This is Mr. Wylliams' only work in existence.

Michelle Zupo (dancer) has 15 years of dance training and is pursuing a BA in communications with a sequence in media and cultural studies. An active participant in the FAU dance program and FAU Ballroom Club, Ms. Zupo has performed with Party City and choreographed for the Delray Beach Playhouse.
