HIMALAYAN CAMP BAROT VALLEY The programme at Barot is specially develop for the adventure loving youngsters who had been to different parts of the Himalayas but missed the most beautiful part of it. Barot is situated 40 km from Joginder Nagar in a small V-Shaped valley formed by the Uhl river. Surrounded on both sides by Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas, Barot is located at an elevation of 6200 ft above the mean sea level. Across the river Uhl is the Nargu Wildlife Sanctuary, home to Ghoral, Himalayan Black Bear and a variety of pheasants. Forest around Barot is of Deodar and Himalayan Oak. ACTIVITIES: Trekking (between 6,000 ft. to 9,000 ft.), bird watching, rock climbing(jumaring), rappelling, Tyrolean traverse, camp fire, games, etc. ACCOMMODATION: Tents separate for girls & boys. Separate constructed Toilets for girls & boys. FOOD: Wholesome and hygienic vegetarian food will be served thrice a day. ELIGIBILITY: For students of age group 11 – 22 years only. BATCH DATE: 1. 05/05/15 TO 12/05/15 2. 12/05/15 TO 19/05/15 3. 19/05/15 TO 26/05/15 CAMP CHARGES: Rs.9750/- for students (11 to 22yrs.) & Rs.11350/-(Above – 22yrs.) for others our fees is inclusive of travelling (by different modes), food, activity charges, service charges. REGISTRATION: For registration fill up the application form and pay the fees. Booking will be done on first come first served basis. Cancellation: Minimum: 10% Between 14 & 8 days 50% Between 30 to 15 days 25% Last 7 days No refund Cancellation charges will be applicable on total programme cost. Things to be carried: Four pairs of rough clothes, heavy woolens, woolen cap, bath towel, cap, blanket, torch (with extra batteries), sweater/jacket, sports shoes, socks, floaters / sandals, water bag with strap, cold cream, day pack, sanitary requisites, note pad & pen. Sleeping material & plates will be provided at the campsite. All the Items mentioned should preferably be packed in a rucksack which is easier to carry. Please do not bring suitcases, plastic/polythene bags or any disposable items, ornaments, cell phone and other valuables. Binoculars and camera can be brought but at one’s own responsibility. Now the Minstry of Environemnt, Forest and Climate Change, Govt. of India vide notifications dated 15.1.2016, caluse 7(iii) pertains to preparation of Distt Survey report for sand mining or riverbed mining and mining of other minor minerals for regulation and control of mining operation, a survey document of existing River/Stream bed mining in each district is to be undertaken. In the said policy guidelines, it was provided that District level river/stream bed mining action plan shall be based on a survey document of the existing river/stream bed mining in each district and also to assess its direct and indirect benefits and identification of the potential threats to the individual rivers/streams in the State. This survey shall contain:- a) District wise detail of Rivers/Streams/Khallas; and b) District wise details of existing mining leases/ contracts in river/stream/khalla beds Based on this survey, the action plan shall divide the rivers/stream of the State into the following two categories;- a) Rivers/ Streams or the River/Stream sections selected for extraction of minor minerals b) Rivers/ Streams or the River/Stream sections prohibited for extraction of minor minerals.

Status of Ecosystem Health in the Indian Himalayan Region
Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Hon’ble Union Minister of Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, Health and Family Welfare MESSAGE The Indian Himalaya Region (IHR) stretches 2500 km across 12 States. It is home to 52 million people and source of food, water and energy for close to 1.5 billion people. The Himalayan ecosystem consists of natural and geological wealth like glaciers, snow, abundant forest cover and bio-diversity, micro flora and fauna and wild life. However the fragile and diverse Himalayan ecosystem is highly susceptible to natural hazards that arises concern about current and potential climate change impacts which include abnormal floods, droughts and landslides, loss of biodiversity and threats to food security. In recent times the receding glacier on account of climate change has aroused global concern as they are source of major rivers. A slight change in the Himalayan ecosystem can drastically alter millions of lives. In order to understand the complexity of the IHR and unravel the efforts needed to sustain the IHR, a National Mission for Sustaining Himalayan Ecosystem (NMSHE) was launched as one of the 8 national missions under the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC). NMSHE is the only site specific mission that aims to take appropriate measures for sustaining and safeguarding the IHR. The Climate Change Programme (CCP) of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) is coordinating and implementing NMSHE in collaboration with several central government institutions and the 12 Himalayan States. NMSHE has achieved considerable progress by launching Task Forces, establishing State Climate Change Cells, undertaking capacity building initiatives and building bi-lateral mechanism.

But it is an industry and one of the economic operations of manifolds and measurements that are rising fastest. The growth of Tourism depends on a variety of issues. Reputation of the destination, tourist friendly environment, affordable travel and distinctive tourist circuits are some of the valuable considerations of success for the tourism industry. The essential parameters for the success of the tourism industry is the development of the Tourist circuit and destinations to attract the tourists from different places in the world. This paper discusses about the importance of developing tourist circuit in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh and its significance. It’s importance in tourism development and attracting wide range of tourists as a famous tourist circuit with renowned destinations. The aim of this paper is to identify the destinations and highlight the potentials in Mandi connecting Kullu, Manali and other nearby tourism destinations. Cytological Studies of Some Dicots from the Hills of Mandi District (Himachal Pradesh) in Northwest Indian Himalayas
© 2013 The Japan Mendel Society Cytologia 78(1): 1–14 Cytological Studies of Some Dicots from the Hills of Mandi District (Himachal Pradesh) in Northwest Indian Himalayas Vijay Kumar Singhal,* Puja Garg and Puneet Kumar Department of Botany, Punjabi University, Patiala-147002, Punjab, India Received August 28,2012; accepted March 1,2013 Summary Details of male meiotic course and pollen fertility have been investigated in 45 species of dicotyledonous plants from the chromosomally unexplored area of the Mandi district, between the altitudinal ranges of 800 to 3360 m. All the species have been worked out cytologically for the first time from the study area. The meiotic chromosome count of n=9 for Impatiens micranthemum is the first ever chromosome report for that species. A new intraspecific 12x cytotype (n=42) has been re- ported in Potentilla gerardiana, supplementing the earlier reported cytotypes (2x, 8x). A new cyto- type has been reported in Gentiana argentea (n=9), supplementing the earlier Indian report of n=10. Out of a total 45 species, 31 species (68.88%) showed normal meiotic course and high pollen fertil- ity (91–100%), while 14 species (31.11%) depicted various meiotic irregularities and some pollen sterility (4–40%). The phenomenon of cytomixis involving inter-pollen mother cells (PMCs) migra- tion of chromatin material has been reported in 3 species, Clematis grata (n=8), Gentiana aprica (n=10) and Lamium album (n=9). In these species, cytomixis induces various meiotic abnormalities (enucleated, hypo-, hyperploid, tripolar and multipolar PMCs, chromatin stickiness, laggards and chromatin bridges at anaphases and telophases and micronuclei) and consequently some pollen ste- rility and variable sized pollen grains.

Abstract The studied area is in parts of Kullu, Mandi, Chamba, Kangra and Lahaul & Spiti districts of Himachal Pradesh has been selected for susceptibility mapping because of its potentiality for resulting disastrous landslides. The study area exposes rocks of Vaikrita Crystallines with Manjir and Katarigali formations and Kullu and Rampur Groups with Vaikrita and Kullu thrusts.The susceptibility mapping involved preparation of geofactor maps and landslide inventory map to calculate Yule‟s Co-efficient and Landslide Occurrence Favourability Score (LOFS), determination of weightage for factor class by Weighted Multiclass-index Overlay Method for the susceptibility modelling in ArcGIS to obtain the susceptibility score map, and finally classified into „high‟, „moderate‟ and „low‟ susceptibility zones in the study area. Seven major high zones viz.
