The Case of Sankit Lideta, Awi Zone Amhara Regional State, Ethiopia Ayalew Muluye Melsew* Begimeder College of Teachers Education, Po.Box-20, Debra Tabor, Ethiopia Email : [email protected] Abstracts This study was conducted in the known acid soil area of Ethiopia Awi zone which is found in the Amhara regional state. Five levels of lime introduced (0, 1150kg/ha, 2300kg/ha, 3450kg/ha, 4600kg/ha) on the faba bean productivity in the acidic soils. This experiment was arranged in a factorial experiment using randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications and 39 .13kg/ha Urea and100kg/ha TSP had been used as the source of N and P, respectively. Crop data such as plant height, biomass yield and grain yield , 50% flowering ,50% maturity,95% maturity, number of pods/plant ,number of seeds /pod ,number of seeds /plant ,lodging ,stand count at emerge and harvest collected and analyzed using SAS Software version 9. The result of this study indicated that 4600kg/ha, lime brought significantly higher result than the control. As lime level increased from the 0 to 4600kg/ha, grain yield, 50% flowering, biomass yield, number of pods /plant, number of seeds/plant increased. However, as lime level increased the number of seeds/ pod, stand count at emerges, stand count at harvest, 50%maturity, 95%maturity did not bring significant change. -

The data base was created from a survey of 80 households in 4 Peasant Associations of Western Amhara Region. This survey data was supplemented by available secondary statistics. In order to analyse the relationship between the above variables, descriptive and multivariate statistical tools were used. The results from this study lead to the appreciation of access to markets as an important and viable approach to rural development of the Amhara Region. By encouraging specialization and intensification in production through price signals and technology diffusion, access to markets leads to development in the agricultural sector through increased productivity and in turn increased household income, consumption, saving and investment. As hypothesized, market access variable shows a positive and significant impact on aggregate productivity and income for both market access divisions of the study. More precisely, sampie farmers' agricultural productivity had an elasticity of 0.3 to market access and it is significant at 1% probability level. -

Abere Dawud and *Asmamaw Aki Regional Veterinary Diagnostic, Surveillance, Monitoring and Study Laboratory, P.O.Box:326, Asossa, Ethiopia; email address: [email protected]; Cele phone: +251902330029 Abstract: Trypanosomosis is wasting disease of tropical countries that contribute negatively to benefit human and productivity of animal. The Cross sectional study was conducted in selected Kebeles of Guangua Woreda, Amhara Region, North West Part of Ethiopia from November 2017 to April 2018 to determine the prevalence of bovine trypanosomosis on randomly selected animal using parasitological study (Buffy coat technique). Total of 384 blood samples were collected from four kebele and examined. The result of parasitological finding indicates 1.82% of total prevalence in the study area. In the present study two species of Trypanosoma identified, from total (7) positive sample 4(1.04%) was showed Trypanosoma vivax and 3(0.78%) of them indicate Trypanosoma congolense. The present study indicate there were no statistically significant difference (p>0.05) observed between kebele, sex and age group of animal whereas statistically significant difference (p<0.05) was observed in body condition. In this study the anemia prevalence was higher in trypanosome infected cattle (71.4%) than in non-infected cattle (28.6%) and the difference was statistically significant (p<0.05). The present study showed that there was slightly higher prevalence than previous study which was conducted in Woreda. In general the prevalence of bovine trypanosomosis in the study area was minimum, this may be due to seasonality of fly population Therefore, further study should be conduct in this area especially in wet season to understand the prevalence of the disease and its effect on bovine. -
