2 www.PalaceStamford.org Letter from the Executive Director

Welcome!

We are delighted to have you join us at The Palace during our 2018-2019 season! This Spring and Summer we’re pleased to bring you some exciting entertainment!

Arts and Culture make good cities great and we are proud to have a facility like The Palace to present premier entertainment so close to home. While most people know The Palace for our outstanding shows, they may not know that The Palace is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization and we need your assistance to realize our mission.

Become a member and support the arts! Your donation is 100% tax deductible. Memberships come with valuable benefits such as access to ticket presales, priority seating, and a concierge phone line, as well as invitations to exclusive and exciting member receptions.

We’d like to extend our gratitude to our season sponsors: Co-Communications, SL Green, UC Funds, the Whittingham Family, and Harman—the “official sound of The Palace Theatre.” Our sponsors are the backbone of our theatre. Without their financial commitment and partnership we would not have the ability to bring sensational comedians, musicians, and children’s entertainment to our backyard that makes The Palace so unique. We greatly appreciate the continued support from these wonderful sponsors.

This Spring and summer we have a jam packed schedule with entertainment for everyone. From music, comedy and family entertainment, we’ve got everything covered.

We’re honored to be presenting two iconic comedians, Jay Leno on May 2nd and Kevin James on May 4th. Our friends from Connecticut Ballet present their Spring performance of “Old, New, Borrowed & Blue!”

Music City Session alum FILMORE returns to our Upstage on Friday May 17th with female solo artist Olivia Lane. We’re also excited to announce two legendary music acts that’ll be taking over The Palace stage! Rock band STYX bring us their biggest hits on Thursday May 23rd and Grammy Award Winning Latino artist Victor Manuelle makes his Palace Theatre debut on Friday, June 14th.

Visit www.palacestamford.org for more information. Create your online account to join our mailing list and connect with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Be the first to know about upcoming shows and special offers during our new season!

The Palace thanks you for your patronage and support. Enjoy your show today. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Show Information

Jay Leno Thursday, May 2 | 8:00pm

Acclaimed TV late night show host, admired stand-up comedian, best-selling children’s book author, much-in-demand corporate speaker, TV and movie voice-over artist, pioneering car builder and mechanic, and philanthropist…Jay Leno is widely characterized as “the hardest working man in show business.”

Jay Leno’s late night television ratings domination included two decades as the host of the #1-rated “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”—he never lost a ratings year in which he served as host.

Leno, currently produces and is host of the CNBC Television series “JAY LENO’S GARAGE” now in its third season. “Jay Leno’s Garage” explores the world of cars, never forgetting that it’s the people behind the wheel who provide the real stories. The series debuted in October 2015 and delivered CNBC’s most-watched first season in network history. New episodes of “Jay Leno’s Garage” can be viewed on CNBC throughout the year.

When he’s not on TV, Leno performs more than 100 stand-up shows annually across the country and internationally; participates in numerous charity and corporate events, does voice-overs for animated series, pens children’s books, and writes a monthly column in various automotive magazines. And in his “spare” time (as if he has any), he enjoys working on his collection of classic cars and motorcycles. In fact, he has built a number of cars, including an acclaimed eco-car in his eco-friendly green garage.

Kevin James Saturday, May 4 | 8:00pm

Kevin James began his career as a stand-up on the Long Island comedy scene. After being discovered at the 1996 Montreal Comedy Festival, he signed a network development deal to create his own sitcom.

The King of Queens, which premiered in 1998, ran for nine seasons on CBS with James starring and executive producing, and it garnered him an Emmy nomination in 2006 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. The show concluded its run in 2007 but continues to air daily in syndication across the country and around the world. James also starred in and executive produced the sitcom Kevin Can Wait for Sony Television and CBS.

In 2001, James brought his stand-up act to TV with Sweat the Small Stuff, a one-hour special for Comedy Central. In 2005, Kevin James and Ray Romano executive produced and starred in the HBO Sports Special Making the Cut: The Road to Pebble Beach; a documentary about the Pebble Beach Pro Am Golf Tournament that was nominated for a Sports Emmy. His second comedy special Never Don’t Give Up premiered on Netflix in April 2018.

James was the producer, co-writer, and star of the hit comedies Paul Blart: Mall Cop 1 & 2, Zookeeper, and Here Comes The Boom. James made his feature film debut in 2005 in Columbia Pictures’ Hitch starring opposite Will Smith, and starred alongside Adam Sandler in Pixels, GrownUps, Grown Ups 2, and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. He starred in the feature True Memoirs of an International Assassin for Netflix in 2016. In addition to his on-camera work, James’s voice has been featured in the animated films Barnyard for Nick Movies, as well as Monster House and the Hotel Transylvania franchise for Sony Pictures Animation.

The six men comprising STYX have committed to rocking the Paradise together with audiences far and wide by averaging over 100 shows a year every year since (yes) 1999, and each one of them is committed to making the next show better than the last. Founded in Chicago in 1972, STYX has the unique distinction of being the first band in rock history to have four consecutive certified multimillion selling in a row: 1977’s The Grand Illusion, 1978’s , 1979’s Cornerstone, and 1981’s Paradise Theatre. STYX draws from over four decades of barnburning chart hits, joyous singalongs, and hard driving deep cuts. Like a symphony that builds to a satisfying crescendo, a STYX set covers a wide range of stylistic cornerstones. From the progressively sweeping splendor that is “The Grand Illusion” to the hunker down fortitude of all that is the “Blue Collar Man,” from the majestic spiritual love for a special “Lady” to the poignant rumination on the fleeting nature of fame in “Miss America,” from an individual yearning for true connection as a “Man in the Wilderness” to a soul deep quest to achieve what’s at the heart of one’s personal vision in “Crystal Ball,” from the regal reach for the stars bravado of “” to the grainy all in gallop of that rugged “Renegade” who had it made, STYX draws on an unlimited cache of ways to immerse one’s mind and body in their signature sound.
