Résumé : Les études de phylogénie moléculaire sur les Lépidoptères Rhopalocères et Zygènes sont de plus en plus nombreuses ces dernières années modifiant la systématique et la taxinomie de ces deux groupes. Une mise à jour complète est réalisée dans ce travail. Un cadre décisionnel a été élaboré pour les niveaux spécifiques et infra-spécifique avec une approche intégrative de la taxinomie. Ce cadre intégre notamment un aspect biogéographique en tenant compte des zones-refuges potentielles pour les espèces au cours du dernier maximum glaciaire. Cette démarche permet d’avoir une approche homogène pour le classement des taxa aux niveaux spécifiques et infra-spécifiques. Les conséquences pour l’acquisition des données dans le cadre d’un inventaire national sont développées. Summary : Studies on molecular phylogenies of Butterflies and Burnets have been increasingly frequent in the recent years, changing the systematics and taxonomy of these two groups. A full update has been performed in this work. -

Populations are typically fragmented, restricted to high altitudes in one or several mountain ranges, where habitat is relatively well preserved, but where the effects of climate change are considerable. As a result, the genus Erebia has become a model to study the impact of climate changes, past and present, on intraspecific genetic diversity. In this study, we inferred phylogenetic relationships among populations of the European species Erebia epiphron and Erebia orientalis using mitochondrial (COI) and nuclear markers (ITS2, wg and RPS5), and reconstructed their phylogeographical history. Endemic Macrolepidoptera Subspecies in the Natural History Museum Collections from Sibiu (Romania)

The paper presents data regarding endemic Macrolepidoptera subspecies preserved in the Entomological Collections of Natural History Museum from Sibiu. 22 endemic subspecies are recorded and represented by 382 specimens in the Entomological Collection. Most of the specimens have been collected from mountain habitats, especially from Southern and Western Carpathians. The results of this paper contribute to the improvement of the existing data concerning the distribution and outline the areas of Macrolepidoptera’s endemism in Romania. Résumé. Le document présente des données concernant les sous-espèces endémiques des Macrolépidoptères conservées dans les collections entomologiques du Musée d’Histoire Naturelle de Sibiu. 22 sous-espèces endémiques sont enregistrées et représentées par 382 spécimens dans la collection entomologique. La plupart des spécimens ont été recueillis dans les habitats de montagne, en particulier du Sud et l’Ouest des Carpates. Les résultats de cette étude contribuent à compléter les données existantes concernant la distribution et de définir les zones d’endémisme des Macrolépidoptères en Roumanie. However, due to its political isolation, it has never been studied in great depth, and consequently, the existing list of butterfly species is outdated and in need of radical amendment. In addition to our personal data, we have studied the available litera- ture, and can report a total of 196 butterfly species recorded from the country. For some of the species in the list we have given explanations for their inclusion and made other annotations. Doubtful records have been removed from the list, and changes in taxonomy have been updated and discussed separately. The purpose of our paper is to remove confusion and conflict regarding published records. However, the revised checklist should not be considered complete: it represents a starting point for further research. -

Results are presented in the context of distributional limits of individual species, their habitat requirements and their potential endangerment due to environmental and habitat changes. Endemits and Rare Species in the Lepidoptera Collection of the Museum of Dacian and Roman Civilisation (Hunedoara County, Romania)

XXIV/2008 ISSN 1454-6914 ENDEMITS AND RARE SPECIES IN THE LEPIDOPTERA COLLECTION OF THE MUSEUM OF DACIAN AND ROMAN CIVILISATION (HUNEDOARA COUNTY, ROMANIA) SILVIA BURNAZ Abstract. The author presents the endemits and rare species of Lepidoptera collection, one of the oldest collections preserved in the Museum of Dacian and Roman Civilisation of Deva (Hunedoara County, Romania). The collection was set up by JOSEF MALLÁSZ, curator of the museum in the first decades of XX century. Species of Lepidoptera were collected by JOSEF MALLÁSZ in the surrounding of Deva locality and also in Metaliferi Mountains (S;c;râmb and Mada Gorges) and Retezat Mountains. The old collection also contains specimens collected by LADISLAU DIÓSZEGHY and DANIEL CZEKELIUS. Until the present, this collection contains 12,272 specimens belonging to 947 species. They are collected by the author or by other entomologists of Romania: FREDERIC KÖNIG, IOSIF C:PU1E, MARIN MOLDOVAN, LÁSZLÓ RÁKOSY and WILHELM WEBER. This lepidopterological material is recorded from different hillocky and mountainous regions of Romania. Rare species of Romanian fauna are: Proserpinus proserpina, Heteropterus morpheus morpheus, Zerynthia polyxena, Orthostixis cribraria, Coscinia cribraria pannonica, Lycophotia porphyrea, Hyppa rectilinea, Cryphia muralis, Gortyna borelii lunata, Catocala hymenea and Pseudochropleura musiva. Endemic taxa, especially endemic Carpathian subspecies are: Parnassius mnemosyne transsylvanica, Boloria pales carpathomeridionalis, Euphydryas maturna partiensis, Coenonympha rhodopensis, Erebia epiphron transsylvanica, Erebia cassioides neleus, Erebia pandrose roberti, Erebia gorge fridericikoenigi, Erebia pronoë regalis, Erebia melas runcensis, Psodos coracina dioszeghyi, Photedes captiuncula delattini, Apamea maillardi carpatobrunnea and Apamea zeta carpatodistincta. For each taxon, data about the geographical spreading, habitat, flight period and larval food are given. -

Several of the red list of threatened species of European butterflies can be found in the Midi Pyrénées. The remarkable diversity of habitats, the geology, and wide range of climatic conditions together with a rich plant life has enabled the development of such a large number of butterfly species. The Midi-Pyrénées is the largest region of France, with more than 45 000 km2 land area. It comprises 8 departments, the Ariège, Aveyron, Haute Garonne, Gers, Lot, Hautes Pyrénées, Tarn and the Tarn and Garonne. With the effect from 1 January 2016 the number of metropolitan regions was reduced from 22 to 13 (12 mainland and Corsica), with 96 departments. The Midi-Pyrénées and the Languedoc- Roussillon have been fused to create the new region of Occitanie. Vertikale und horizontale Verbreitung, Biotopansprüche, Futterpflanzen der Raupen und Gefährdung stehen im Mittelpunkt der Betrachtungen. Eine vorläufige Bestandsaufnahme sämtlicher "Großschmetterlinge" der Region "Salzburger Hohe Tauern", gegliedert nach Familien, ergibt 784 Arten. Dem gegenüber stehen 519 Arten, die bisher innerhalb der Salzburger Nationalparkgrenzen aufgefunden wurden (Stand: 15.11.1994). Die Erhebung der vertikalen Verbreitung der Tagfalter des Untersuchungsgebietes zeigt auf, daß die Zahl der Arten mit zunehmender Höhe deutlich zurückgeht. Wurden im montanen Bereich noch 88 Arten nachgewiesen, sind es in der subalpinen Höhenstufe 68 und im Alpinbereich nur mehr 33 Arten. Es wird festgestellt, daß die Zahl der Generationen, die eine Art im Jahresverlauf hervorbringt, mit zunehmender Höhe abnimmt. So gibt es im gesamten Untersuchungsgebiet nur 3 Arten mit 3 Generationen, 15 Arten mit 2 Brutfolgen, und 79 Arten mit nur einer Generation pro Jahr. 16 Arten weisen eine mehrjährige Entwicklungsdauer der Praeimaginalstadien auf. Das häufigste Überwinterungsstadium ist in allen Höhenformationen die Raupe. -
A Single Genetic Lineage of Erebia Euryale (Nymphalidae) Along the Northern Iberian Mountains

Both classic morphological and genetic studies have indicated distinctiveness of Pyrenean populations of the butterfly Erebia euryale. This hypothesis remained inconclusive until data from the westernmost populations of the distribution area (Cantabrian Mountains) were analysed. In the present study, we set out to describe the population structure of Erebia euryale in western Cantabria, where the species occurs in scattered localities. For this goal, we estimate the genetic diversity and differentiation found in 218 individuals from six Cantabrian (North Spain) localities genotyped by 17 allozyme loci. We also sequence 816 bp of the cytochrome oxidase subunit I mitochondrial gene in 49 individuals from Cantabrian localities and 41 specimens from five other European sites. Mitochondrial data support the recognition of four major genetic groups previously suggested for the European populations based on allozyme polymorphisms. Both mitochondrial and nuclear markers reveal genetic distinctiveness of a single Pyrenean– Cantabrian lineage of E. euryale. The lack of geographical structure and the star-like topology displayed by the mitochondrial haplotypes indicate a pattern of demographic expansion in northern Iberia, probably related to Upper Pleistocene climatic oscillations. -
A Simplified Key to the Butterflies of Aquitaine
A simplified key to the Butterflies of Aquitaine Butterflies are distinguished from most moths by their club-ended thread-like antennae, their wings closed together above the body at rest and their absence of a system of coupling between the anterior and posterior wings. Butterflies are active by day, whereas moths generally fly at night. Note that the separation of these two sub-orders has no real scientific basis but remains an accepted convention. Knowledge of their geographical distribution is still fragmentary and there are still potentially other species present. The production of this key aims to support recording for the first Aquitaine atlas of butterflies – a joint project by CEN Aquitaine and LPO Aquitaine which will provide an important monitoring baseline. This key provides a simple way to identify the different species of butterflies in Aquitaine. It has been constructed in such a way as to display all closely related species on each page. It must be remembered that a key such as this cannot provide all of the criteria for confirming the identification of every species. It is intended as a simplified key which for many species should be sufficient though it will sometimes have to be supplemented by reference to other more specialized works as indicated.
