Conversion

Conversion from metric (SI) to imperial measures. To find the size of a particular wheel spacer, multiply the first number by 0.04 (eg. Minifix 40/4- 1 18, multiply 40 by 0.04 = 1.6 or approx. 1 /2 inches). To find out what size bar the wheel will hold, match the number to the closest “mm” equiva- lent, (eg. Minifix 40/4-18. 4 mm is between #1 and #2 bar [mesh] and 18 mm is closest to #6 bar. Anything below 1/4 inch is mesh.

18 Spacers for horizontal and vertical reinforcement Autofix assembly system manufacture line integration for the production of concrete ceilings

Slab ceilings and similar precast concrete units are manufactured with the assistance of most modern equipment. The Autofix assembly system allows the use of spacers which are ideally suited to these automatic processes. The Autofix-system provides semi- or fully automatic spacer fitting. Transverse reinforcement can be subsequently used as a spacer. The machine meets all requirements found in modern precast concrete plants. No adjustment is needed to achieve different concrete covers or utilise various steel diameters. A more detailed brochure is available on request.

Autofix spacers for the automated manufacture of slab ceilings

Spacers for horizontal and vertical reinforcement 19 Rod spacers

The Seifert range of Extrafix rod spacers are reinforcement bars where plastic spacers have been pressed on. Those rods are not to be understood as conventional spacers. Rod spacers fulfil static functions only and are part of the reinforcement to which additional rebars can be laid. Therefore usage of mats is not necessary. Extrafix rods can be manufactured on-site when using our Autofix Assembly System along with Autofix Spacers. A multitude of rod spacers with different spacer shapes and bar diameters are available on special request. First figure in the order code indicates the lower border, the second figure the top border of the steel. Concrete cover is equivalent with the lower border.

Propfix fixing system

An economical and alternative system to steel dowels. Multipurpose system to suit both site construction and precast concrete applications, e.g. seating rails to concrete, fastening guard rails, anchoring of assembly pillars for alignment of reinforced concrete walls, fixing of bearing systems, etc. Propfix consists of a plastic insert moulded over a galvanised steel nut, according to DIN specification which protects against corrosion and provides sufficient concrete cover. Propfix has very good shear strength characteristics because of shifting main stress point. Self-anchoring due to clever design. Easy insertion of threaded bars and screws as well as sufficient exit section. Easy to fix on both steel or timber formwork with nailing plate. Integrated webs allow additional tying to reinforcement. Supplied with a cap to preventing concrete ingress.

Optifix-HW plastic insert

Made from virgin plastic material Optifix-HW is the economical alternative for attaching braces to concrete elements during construction. Particularly suitable for sandwich panels. No need for expensive and time consuming installation of subsequent plugs or self anchoring channels. The ribbed external design provides a very firm seating in the concrete element. The attached fixing plate can be easily removed due to a cleverly constructed plane of weakness. Totally impermeable to water making Optifix-HW a very cost effective alternative to stainless steel. Installation: Simply attach Optifix-HW in position using adhesive when using steel formwork or even by nailing when using timber formwork. The concrete can now be poured. When the shuttering is removed, the brace can be attached using a self cutting galvanised screw M 12 x 70. Screws together with washers are supplied separately upon request. The resulting hole which remains in the concrete can be closed by matching caps.

28 Lifting, fixing and connecting precast concrete Liftfix spherical head lifting anchor system

Liftfix round head lifting anchors are installed in the formwork using semi spherical recess formers. On one hand the recess formers perform the role of holders, on the other they provide a recess, which accommodates the load bearing tackle (lifting eye). Thus it is impossible to mix up the load levels. A further advantage is that when under diagonal tension, the lifting eye rests against the concrete, thus directing the horizontal load component directly into the concrete. Therefore in the construction of components with a large surface area, a reduction in load as a consequence of diagonal tension such as is usual with sleeve type transport anchors does not apply. Additional reinforcement is not required. In thin wall sections, an additional reinforcement must be provided when diagonal tension is applied, to relieve the tensile splitting forces which occur. Appropriate details can be found in following pages.

Lifting, fixing and connecting precast concrete 29 Confix System Continuity system for reinforced concrete components

The Seifert Confix continuity system is the ideal solution for joining reinforced concrete constructions, consisting of an initially closed protection box with one- or two-layer-stirrups. Confix is simply nailed to the formwork and cast into the component. After striking shuttering the face of the box will show and the protection box can be opened slightly. The connecting bars are released and can be easily raised. The protection box remains cast- in providing an excellent bond with surrounding concrete. Confix is suitable for both precast and insitu casting and can be used for wall thickness of 8 to 30 cm. They are easy to handle and fit.

There are various standard shapes available for a variety of requirements, but please note that we are able to manufacture the Confix System with alternative stirrup heights and spacing, bar diameters, shapes and box lengths.

The Confix System meets the requirements of DIN 1045 and the DBV notice “Re-bending of reinforcement steel”. They consist of high yield steel bars to BSt 500 S (IV S) according to DIN 488, housed in a galvanised steel case with a tear-off cover.

Permissible loads in longitudinal and transversal direction

The design of the Confix system is in accordance with the requirements issued by the DBV (German Concrete Association) and DIN 1045. The concrete cover is guaranteed, after tearing off the outer face of Confix cases. The permissible loading is given in the following tables, when taking a concrete compressive strength of 25 N/mm² into consideration. 30 Lifting, fixing and connecting precast concrete Railfix

The railfix-system is a flexible and effective method to attach various items to precast concrete units, including water pipes, cable channels, air ducts and many similar applications. The cold pressed hot dip galvanised profile 28/15 and 38/17 covers a large amount of all typical needs. Railfix is to be mainly used for idle loads only. Railfix is a hollow profile that is filled with polyethylene foam to prevent concrete running into the open section during pouring. The foam can be easily removed with the help of a screwdriver or similar after the formwork has been removed. All edge spacings (edge to first anchor) are 25 mm.

Lifting, fixing and connecting precast concrete 31 Jointfix centrally and externally placed waterstops

The Seifert range of centrally and externally placed Jointfix PVC waterstops are designed to provide an integral sealing network for joints in water retaining, and water excluding concrete structures. The range is supplied as straight lengths of 25 m in coils with separate intersection pieces to be joined on site. Where necessary factory made fabrications can be supplied to simplify site assembly of the complete waterstop network. Seifert waterstops are designed to provide the sealing of movement and construction joints which occur in water retaining types of concrete structure such as reservoirs, water towers, sewage tanks, dams, culverts, canals, spillways, swimming pools and bounded areas surrounding liquid retaining tanks, as well as in water excluding concrete structures such as basement structures and underground car parks, tunnels and subways, abutments and retaining walls as well as on roof decks and podium areas.

Centrally placed Seifert waterstop profiles

The concept is to provide a water barrier across all joints in concrete structures by casting the section centrally into the edges of adjacent concrete components. 32 Waterstop and sealant Hydrofix expanding waterstop

Hydrofix is a unique neoprene rubber waterstop used in the construction industry. Hydrofix provides safe and efficient sealing of joints in insitu and precast applications. Ideal for all water retaining structures, as Hydrofix has delayed swelling characteristics, does not disintegrate, retains it's shape and stays stable and seals efficiently up to 7 bar water pressure. Hydrofix is incorporated into the joint prior to concreting. After concrete has set, the reduction of volume may make joints untight. When water penetrates into those joints, Hydrofix expands it's volume in proportion to the absorbed amount of water, thus safely and efficiently sealing the joint. The peak expansion is limited to 200% on average. The resulting pressure is limited due to the closed cell structure of Neoprene rubber, thus avoiding any damage to concrete units. In dry surroundings, swollen waterstops release the water and reduce their volume to initial size. The amount of water in the section remains however on same level as in surrounding concrete, thus assuring that the waterstop stays swollen and active. When again in contact with water, Hydrofix starts to swell again.

Small points may be visible.

We recommend that tests be conducted before employing panel pads to stack concrete components with delicate surfaces or surfaces that must remain free of blemishes.
