Guide to VAST Satellite TV February 2019 www.campersat.com.au (02) 9484 0100 What is VAST Satellite TV Viewer Access Satellite Television (VAST) is a satellite-delivered service that provides commercial and national (ABC and SBS) broadcasting services. It is funded by the Australian Government to provide access to a suite of metropolitan-equivalent broadcasting services to people in remote areas and to viewers in terrestrial digital television 'black spots', who would not otherwise be able to receive digital television services. VAST Satellite TV gives the traveller access to the digital TV and Radio channel that the cities enjoy. VAST Coverage This map has been designed to let you know where you can receive both VAST Satellite TV and Foxtel Satellite TV around Australia with our Pro Max Automatic satellite system. The areas on this map in dark green are within the coverage area for the Pro Max, this is where the majority of people live and travel within Australia. The areas in light green are area’s that you should not expect to receive a signal, these are areas less travelled and generally with very little population. With any signal coverage map there can be some areas within this map with lower than expected signal levels, we have tried to assure accuracy within this map . In Australia the satellite TV signal is at it’s strongest along the coast from Adelaide to the Queensland’s Sunshine Coast and there are also high power spot beams on Perth and Darwin. Locations outside these areas are covered by a lower power national beam. Current as at February 2019 www.campersat.com.au 1Page How do you access VAST To access VAST, you will need to have a VAST certified satellite set top box and a satellite dish of at least 65cm diameter. For example, here is a typical set up for fixed satellite and receiver: Access to VAST is controlled by the smart card supplied with your satellite set top box. To access VAST you will need to register your details including your address, reception location and smart card number. SUBMISSION TO THE INQUIRY OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES STANDING COMMITTEE ON COMMUNICATIONS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND THE ARTS INTO COMMUNITY BROADCASTING Submission 80 FROM THE NATIONAL INDIGENOUS TELEVISION (NITV) COMMITTEE Executive Summary In September 2005 the Australian Government announced that from 1 July 2006 it will fund the establishment of an Indigenous television service. The National Indigenous Television (NITV) Committee1 is charged with the implementation of the new service; provisionally named National Indigenous Television (NITV). The NITV Committee proposes that NITV, as a fully fledged, government licenced broadcast service, should be provided with the same digital spectrum access as the other mainstream broadcasters. Such an allocation would provide an opportunity for NITV to act as a “channel multiplexer” to provide digital carriage of local community broadcasters. This would allow the community services to continue to be provided with spectrum “free of charge”, without the need for them to provide their own expensive technical infrastructure for digital services. 1 See Appendix 1 for NITV Committee members. The NITV Committee is a voluntary, industry representative group which was formed by the Australian Indigenous Communications Association (AICA) to develop an effective strategy for the establishment of a national Indigenous television service. The group comprises representatives from AICA, Indigenous Remote Communications Association Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Corporation (IRCA), Indigenous Screen Australia (ISA), IMPARJA Television and those with specific contributing industry expertise. Submission The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Communications Information Technology and The Arts is conducting an enquiry into community broadcasting and seeks input from involved organisations on:- • The scope and role of community broadcasting • Content and programming requirements • Technological opportunities • Opportunities and threats to achieving a diverse and robust network of community broadcasters 1.

The Misrepresentation of Representation: In Defense of Regional Storytelling in Netflix’s The New Legends of Monkey KATE MCEACHEN The 2018 Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC Me), Television New Zealand (TVNZ), and Netflix’s coproduction of the original series The New Legends of Monkey (2018) is a fantasy-based television series that reimagines Monkey (1978), a British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) dubbing of the Japanese television series Saiyūki 西遊記. Saiyūki was an adaptation of the historically significant Chinese novel Xiyou ji (Wu Cheng’en, 1592), known in English as Journey to the West. Monkey gained a cult following in Australia, New Zealand, and other international markets leading to the 2018 reboot The New Legends of Monkey, which, unlike Monkey, was released in the United States (Flanagan). This new iteration prompted cultural confusion from those largely unfamiliar with the preceding series, the contexts in which it was introduced to English-speaking viewers in Australia and New Zealand, or the cult response that resulted. This article presents the recent series with this background in mind and within the context of locally produced television in New Zealand, where The New Legends of Monkey was filmed. Analysis of online discussions exposes the interpretive differences arising from this lack of context regarding the show’s connection to Monkey and highlights the problems viewers face interpreting stories outside of their local production markets—an increasingly relevant problem as more regional productions become accessible to a wide range of audiences through transnational streaming services like Netflix. The 2018 The New Legends of Monkey television adaptation, produced by and for the Australian and New Zealand markets and co-produced for international KATE MCEACHEN is currently pursuing her Doctoral Degree in Cultural Studies at The University of Southern Queensland in Australia.
