Submission 115 My work in Australian Television I have worked in Radio and Television broadcast engineering and production in Australia for the last thirty three years of which the later twenty three have been in television production. My main role in television till this day has been Technical Director of live and pre-recorded television productions along with technical support of studio, production and on air facilities to adhere with the Australian broadcast standards. My transition from Radio engineering to television production was in 1993 when I joined Tafe TV, later to become OTEN, “open training education network “as CCU operator and studio technical director to make distance education and documentary television for Tafe and the department of School Education, particularly for language learning for primary schools across Australia via delivery on the B3 satellite platform. Other regular programs were for Police TV and the Rural Health education foundation “Rural Health”, a panel of medical professors and doctors and health care workers hosted by Norman Swan. These were live interactive shows primarily for doctors and health workers in remote parts of the country via satellite and on line delivery. In 1997 I joined Global television to work in their outside broadcast racing department to bring television coverage of Sydney track and harness racing to the Sky racing channel across Australia. From there I joined the Television shopping network across Australia via the Optus television network. In 1999 I joined channel Seven Sydney as senior Technical Director Tech A grade, Experience included: Senior Technical Director on live news and Sun Rise, Sports World, Saturday Disney, The Big Arvo, C7 sport hostings, NRL Winners, At The Wicket and Sports Panel Show. Senior Technical Director for live outside broadcasts of AFL, Soccer, Rugby and Australian Open Tennis Senior Technical Director for Sydney 2000 Olympics at IBC Homebush Bay Senior Technical Director for Temptation Island shot in Fiji Senior Technical Director on All Saints Drama To Provide Technical support, supervision, and Technical Direction to Directors, Producers and all other crew members for a variety of live and pre- recorded television productions including outside broadcast of sporting events, location and studio drama, children’s television, live news and current affairs. Monitoring of incoming and outgoing two way live location feeds. After a brief return to OTEN I joined “The Play Room Sydney “ in 2004 as part of the Omnilab media group as Technical Director and tech support for live and pre-recorded shows for MTV and other cable channels including the movie network hosted on the Foxtel network. At this time we also provided the studio and on air presentation facility for Ambience Entertainment’s” Midnight Zoo”, a late night gaming show for Channel Seven network which I was Technical Director. Submission 115 My work in Australian Television I was also working freelance for As Technical director for channel Ten & SBS news and various outside broadcasts for global TV, Gear House broadcast on sporting events and concert music including the Big Day out for channel V. In 2014 I moved across to Ambience Entertainment within the Omnilab media group As Technical Director and Quality Control to work on shows for children’s television for the channel Nine and Seven networks such as Magical Tales, Move it, Jays Jungle, Imagination Train, Crunch Time and I have just finished shooting series three of Flushed as Technical Director. Ambience entertainment have also shot two Drama series, “Random & whacky” and “Drop Dead weird” in the last 12 months As you can see Australian Television has allowed me to work in a unique industry for more than Twenty years .This industry needs to be protected to ensure the quality of our networks and programs for the future and jobs for the people who work in all aspects of the industry.
