Senior Campus Newsletter August 16, 2018

From the Head of Campus Principal Donald MacLean to Kia ora, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Kia orana, Retire Greetings to you all. After being on sabbatical leave from school in Term Two, I have recently returned and was very pleased to review the mid-year academic results.

Those boys who are enrolled for NCEA are well- placed at this stage of the year to achieve success.

Each boy at the Dilworth Senior Campus is encouraged to set his own academic goals at the start of the year. Best practice in boys’ education suggests that having regular, measurable goals gives a tangible focus, which boys respond well to. At Dilworth, boys are encouraged to monitor their own progress towards their overall goals.

Some of the unique characteristics of the school support this. Our relatively small size and boarding community enable us to offer a ‘wrap around’ care model, with regular staff monitoring of progress and support, whether that is to stretch our able students or offer additional support to those who require it.

One of the most fulfilling parts of my job is watching our boys grow in confidence when they achieve success. Regular feedback on progress towards goals develops an attitude of ‘I can do this’. In July, we announced that Donald MacLean will retire after nearly 22 years as Principal of I encourage you as parents and caregivers to Dilworth School. access your son’s progress through the school’s During Mr MacLean’s time, our school has portal and have regular discussions with him developed a culture of outstanding achievement about this. in all areas.
