Through the use of Internet technology, this book provides detailed biographical information, product information, key thoughts and beliefs, book excerpts, audio clips, a n d articles for the Top 101 Experts (i.e. Gurus) in the Self Improvement Indust ry . This fact-filled book is a guide to help us determine which experts are best fo r us and what products will help us improve our lives. Our fir s t challenge was to define the Self Improvement Industry. What is Self Impro ve ment and how does it differ from Self Help or Personal Growth? Our researc h indicated that the term “Self Help” was coined by Samuel Smiles in a book t h at he wrote in 1859 titled Self-Help. The terms Self Improvement and Person a l Growth appeared to have evolved over time. Due to the nuances of each of these terms, we decided to limit the definition of Self Improvement to the catego ri es that we cover. These categories enabled us to define Self Improvement. The 6 different general categories that define Self Improvement include: • Empowerment (Philip McGraw, Anthony Robbins, et al.) • Spirituality (Marianne Williamson, Dan Millman, et al.) • Business (Spencer Johnson, Ken Blanchard, Stephen Covey, et al.) • Relationships (John Gray, Harville Hendrix, Barbara De Angelis, et al.) • Personal Finance (Robert Kiyosaki, Robert Allen, et al.) • Professional & Academic Skills (Dale Carnegie, Og Mandino, Brian Tracy, et al.) WHO SHOULD READ THIS BOOK? This book is a must read for absolutely anybody connected to, or interested in, Self Improvement. It is a clear, concise, and handy Self Improvement reference guide, with rankings for the industry’s top experts. Finally, all of the worlds top experts in one place, ready to inspire you now! 8 WHAT ARE THE TOP TEN QUESTIONS TO DETERMINE IF THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU? We have included a series of questions you should ask yourself.

D.) in the Urban Educational Leadership Program of the College of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services 2007 by Joyce Ann McCoy B.S. University of Cincinnati, 1981 M.A. University of Cincinnati, 1986 Committee Chair: Dr. Mary L. Brydon-Miller Abstract This case study investigated what constitutes survival skills and a supportive living environment from the perspective of the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) Transitional Living Program participants and YWCA support staff. Research questions that guided this investigation are the following: (1) What survival skills do you need to live independent (self-sufficient, free) from an abusive relationship? And (2) what does a supportive (encouraging, caring, helpful, accommodating) living environment mean to you in a transitional living environment? Such questions help gather insight for improving intervention programs for abused women; although great improvements have been made in terms of legislation, policy, and federal funding, such advances have not been enough to improve the situations of abused women.

  • Inscriptional Records of the Western Zhou
INSCRIPTIONAL RECORDS OF THE WESTERN ZHOU Robert Eno Fall 2012 Note to Readers The translations in these pages cannot be considered scholarly. They were originally prepared in early 1988, under stringent time pressures, specifically for teaching use that term. Although I modified them sporadically between that time and 2012, my final year of teaching, their purpose as course materials, used in a week-long classroom exercise for undergraduate students in an early China history survey, did not warrant the type of robust academic apparatus that a scholarly edition would have required. Since no broad anthology of translations of bronze inscriptions was generally available, I have, since the late 1990s, made updated versions of this resource available online for use by teachers and students generally. As freely available materials, they may still be of use. However, as specialists have been aware all along, there are many imperfections in these translations, and I want to make sure that readers are aware that there is now a scholarly alternative, published last month: A Source Book of Ancient Chinese Bronze Inscriptions, edited by Constance Cook and Paul Goldin (Berkeley: Society for the Study of Early China, 2016). The “Source Book” includes translations of over one hundred inscriptions, prepared by ten contributors. I have chosen not to revise the materials here in light of this new resource, even in the case of a few items in the “Source Book” that were contributed by me, because a piecemeal revision seemed unhelpful, and I am now too distant from research on Western Zhou bronzes to undertake a more extensive one.

Success in the Information Age: A Paradigm Shift William G. Huitt, Ph.D. Citation: Huitt, W. (1999). Success in the information age: A paradigm shift. Revision of paper developed for a workshop presentation at the Georgia Independent School Association, Atlanta, Georgia, November 6, 1995. Retrieved [date], from http://www.edpsycinteractive.org/papers/infoage.pdf See new paper: Huitt, W. (2007). Success in the conceptual age. Paper presented at the Annual Meeting of the Georgia Educational Research Association, October 26. http://www.edpsycinteractive.org/papers/conceptual- age.pdf] There's nothing like a dream to create the future. Utopia today, flesh and blood tomorrow.- -Victor Hugo Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.--Helen Keller These two quotations summarize the main ideas addressed in this paper. To paraphrase Victor Hugo, we are the creators of our future. However, there are forces and factors in our environment today that we do not control, but that are pushing and prodding us to change if we want to be successful. Even though these powerful economic and societal forces are creating different criteria for success in the 21st century, our schools are not making corresponding modifications (e.g., Robinson, 1992). How we act or respond is still up to us. We are the ones that control our responses. We made our past. We have made our present. We will make our future. And if we want to have some control 10 or 15 years from now, we need to make some changes today. I believe the "daring adventure" Helen Keller spoke of is going to be our common experience over the next 10 to 15 years.

  • A Business Lawyer's Bibliography: Books Every Dealmaker Should Read
585 A Business Lawyer’s Bibliography: Books Every Dealmaker Should Read Robert C. Illig Introduction There exists today in America’s libraries and bookstores a superb if underappreciated resource for those interested in teaching or learning about business law. Academic historians and contemporary financial journalists have amassed a huge and varied collection of books that tell the story of how, why and for whom our modern business world operates. For those not currently on the front line of legal practice, these books offer a quick and meaningful way in. They help the reader obtain something not included in the typical three-year tour of the law school classroom—a sense of the context of our practice. Although the typical law school curriculum places an appropriately heavy emphasis on theory and doctrine, the importance of a solid grounding in context should not be underestimated. The best business lawyers provide not only legal analysis and deal execution. We offer wisdom and counsel. When we cast ourselves in the role of technocrats, as Ronald Gilson would have us do, we allow our advice to be defined downward and ultimately commoditized.1 Yet the best of us strive to be much more than legal engineers, and our advice much more than a mere commodity. When we master context, we rise to the level of counselors—purveyors of judgment, caution and insight. The question, then, for young attorneys or those who lack experience in a particular field is how best to attain the prudence and judgment that are the promise of our profession. For some, insight is gained through youthful immersion in a family business or other enterprise or experience.

  • Hvorledes Norge Ble Bosatt

  • A Framing Analysis of the Spiritual Views of Oprah Winfrey
Viewing the World through Oprah’s Eyes: A Framing Analysis of the Spiritual Views of Oprah Winfrey ________________________ Presented to the Faculty Liberty University School of Communication ___________________________________________ In Partial Fulfillment Of the Requirements for the Master of Arts in Communication By Marianne Jeanette Crosby May, 1 2009 __________________________________________________ Cecil V. Kramer, Jr., D. Min., Chairman Date __________________________________________________ William Mullen, Ph.D. Date _________________________________________________ Randall Pruitt, Ph.D. Date Copyright @ 2009 Marianne Jeanette Crosby All Rights Reserved Abstract Oprah Winfrey is an American icon. She has a hand in almost every form of media: movies, television, books, Internet, and radio. In her rise to success, another place that she has infiltrated is the church. Because of her wide range of influence, her thoughts and teaching on spirituality have made their way into both the home and church. Over ten years ago, talk shows had a reputation for portraying mainly negative topics. To combat this stereotype, she made a push to encourage more positive topics of discussion on her show. Yet after receiving criticism for “preaching,” she withdrew from spiritually natured shows. However, in the last couple of years, her shows have again seen more focus on spirituality. While Winfrey has been both praised and criticized for these spiritual views, there has not been much written about what these views actually are. There has also been virtually no study to compare her views of ten years ago to the more recent views. Therefore, this thesis uses Erving Goffman’s framing analysis to extract the frames she presents on spirituality on her talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show.
