This year sees the 17th Southampton Kite Festival organised and run by Solent Kite Flyers in conjunction with Charles Cole Funfair. It is to be held over the weekend of 15th. & 16th June 2013 from 10.00am to 5.30pm each day. This year’s Festival will be a great show of many different types of kites, flying displays and kite competitions, as well as varied and interesting activities happening around the Festival Site. Each day will see Kite Flying Displays as well as general entertainment and displays flying to music. There will also be a few very special arena displays from local groups, including displays of Power Kiting with buggies and boards. There will be plenty of open space available for public flying, so please bring your kites or buy a new one at the Festival.

FORK LIFT TRUCK OPERATOR

If you can complete physical tasks quickly and accurately, and you can judge measurements like weights, this job could be ideal for you. Forklift truck operators load and unload goods deliveries, and move them to and from storage areas in a warehouse or depot. In this job you'll need good physical coordination. You'll also need to be able to follow written instructions and keep records. There are no set entry requirements to get into this job, but ability in basic maths and English could give you an advantage. You must complete approved forklift training before you can use a truck, but this will usually be provided by your employer. You can also get into this job through an Apprenticeship.

As a forklift truck operator, your main duties would include:

• loading and unloading goods from vehicles such as lorries or aircraft • moving goods packed on pallets or in crates around the storage facility • stacking goods in the correct storage bays, following stock control instructions • checking loads are secure • stacking empty pallets • performing daily equipment checks, for example recharging the truck's battery • helping to load and unload trucks by hand where necessary • performing other warehouse tasks like packing.

You could work with various machines including counter-balance trucks, telescopic handlers, side-loading trucks and pedestrian-controlled pallet lifting equipment

Information for young people

From summer 2013, the Government has changed the law so that all young people in England will have to continue in education or training until their 18th birthday.

If you started Year 11 in September 2012, you will need to continue in education or training until at least the end of the school year in which you turn 17 .

If you are in Year 10 or below, you will need to continue until at least your 18th birthday .

This does not necessarily mean that you have to stay in school, and there are a number of options that you can choose:

• Study full-time such as in a school, college or with a training provider;

• Full-time work or volunteering combined with part-time education or training;

• An Apprenticeship

You are of course free to take a summer job and then go onto to a full- time course from September. But, if you decide to continue in full-time work you will need to combine that with part-time study. www.education.gov.uk/rpa

Children (under 16 years of age) are not allowed to work:

Amicus ITS are offering exciting opportunities for bright, enthusiastic, customer focused candidates to join us for an IT Apprenticeship which will see you become fully qualified and experienced Service Desk Analysts. The work on the desk will include logging calls for clients, fixing problems first time (where possible), and escalating to internal support teams or third party suppliers as required. Based upon your behaviour and the company’s needs, at the end of your apprenticeship there may be offers open for you to become a permanent member of staff. We feel our apprenticeship is the perfect starting point for anyone interested in pursuing a career in the IT industry and welcome applications from those with a good knowledge of Microsoft Office and a keen interest in the subject. Qualifications Required The minimum educational requirement is Grade C or above in GCSE Maths, Science, English (Lit and Lang) and preferably IT. If you have taken an A level or equivalent in IT, this will also need to be at a grade C or above.
