Summary Human rights of many LGBT people across the globe are being abused, for instance in Egypt, Azerbaijan and Chechnya. Arrests, imprisonment and mistreatment are common examples, and discrimination is even more widespread. LGBT rights are not fully protected in all the British Overseas Territories. Homosexual acts in private between consenting adults were decriminalised under the United Kingdom's Caribbean Territories (Criminal Law) Order 2000. This illustrates that in exceptional circumstances the UK is prepared to impose social reform on the Overseas Territories. -

Klasse Material 4-teilige Serie an Lernvideos mit einer Länge von 3-4 Minuten, die einzeln oder aufeinander aufbauend eingesetzt werden können (Akronym, Geschichte, Rechte, Kulturgüter), 3 Ar- beitsblätter (Akronym, Geschichte, Rechte), 1 Memory (Kulturgüter), Liste mit weiterführen- der Literatur Thema Obwohl Genderdiversität und verschiedene sexuelle Orientierungen im Alltag durch z.B. me- diale Darstellungen immer präsenter werden, gehören sie noch nicht zur Normalität. Studien zeigen, dass sich auch in Deutschland 46 Prozent der LGBTQ-Personen diskriminiert füh- len1. Schaut man sich Werte zu negativen Bemerkungen oder Verhaltensweisen, die gegen- über LGBTQ-Personen in der Schule wahrgenommen wurden, an, liegen die Zahlen mit 92 Prozent nochmal deutlich höher2. Die Aufklärung und Sensibilisierung von Schüler*innen stellt somit einen wichtigen Faktor dar, um langfristig Akzeptanz und einen gesellschaftlichen Wandel zu schaffen. Dafür erhalten die Schüler*innen in dieser Lerneinheit Einblicke in das Akronym, die Geschichte, Rechte und Kulturgüter der LGBTQ+-Community. Reprinted from http://www.glbtq.com In glbtq history, Berlin is legendary for its thriving subculture during the Weimar Republic (1919-1933), that brief moment when it was the center of the homosexual emancipation movement, and for its role as capital of Nazi Germany. A reunited Berlin has concentrated on remembering its history to create a more liberal present. Berliners recently elected an openly gay mayor and participated in the struggle to gain legal recognition of gay relationships. Berlin surpasses other German cities in the scope of possibilities it offers to its queer residents. With a State of Germany population of approximately 3.7 million,[4] Berlin is the most populous city proper in the European Union and the sixth most populous urban area in the European Union.[5] Located in northeastern Germany on the banks of the rivers Spree and Havel, it is the centre of the Berlin- Brandenburg Metropolitan Region, which has roughly 6 million residents from more than 180 nations[6][7][8][9], making it the sixth most populous urban area in the European Union.[5] Due to its location in the European Plain, Berlin is influenced by a temperate seasonal climate. Around one- third of the city's area is composed of forests, parks, gardens, rivers, canals and lakes.[10] First documented in the 13th century and situated at the crossing of two important historic trade routes,[11] Berlin became the capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg (1417–1701), the Kingdom of Prussia (1701–1918), the German Empire (1871–1918), the Weimar Republic (1919–1933) and the Third Reich (1933–1945).[12] Berlin in the 1920s was the third largest municipality in the world.[13] After World War II and its subsequent occupation by the victorious countries, the city was divided; East Berlin was declared capital of East Germany, while West Berlin became a de facto West German exclave, surrounded by the Berlin Wall [14] (1961–1989) and East German territory. -

Cheng Department of Public Policy, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong [email protected] (corresponding author) Abstract: Hong Kong’s ‘One Country, Two Systems’ formula has been hailed as an unprecedented political experiment in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) for how it formulates a semi-autonomous jurisdiction within a unitary, single-party state. While the formula has remained constitutionally valid two decades after its implementation, it has been trapped in a tense relationship in actual practice. This article considers the city as a subnational island jurisdiction (SNIJ) and examines its scope for autonomy within and under an authoritarian sovereign state. It argues that the PRC’s central government, prompted by the city’s rising pro-democracy activism and its nascent pro-independence force, has put intensifying emphasis on the ‘one country’ principle by blurring the boundaries between the offshore enclave and the mainland through economic integration, connective infrastructures and legal harmonization. As a result, there is an increasingly blurred line between the ‘two systems’, structured and fostered by the enormous cross-border capital and people flow, although at times moderated and slowed down by local capitalist imperatives and social activism to resist homogenization. Our findings suggest that the contestation between autonomy and sovereign control cannot be read in purely constitutional terms but must be considered within the changing socioeconomic and legal context. -

LGBTQIA+ Rights JustNow timeline cards set Created by: Annemarie Kelpe, Friederike Hobein, Sera Ria Gomes The “JustNow – A Toolbox for Teaching Human Rights” project is focused on the development of methodological-didactical materials relating to human rights education, combined with simulation games and diversity learning in non-formal and formal youth educational work. This timeline cards set focuses on teaching about the evolution of the LGBTQIA+ Rights (movement) through history up until today, covering some key milestones, leading figures, events, legislation and organizations. The cards can be used in history or civic education, or in other non-formal education settings. Where possible, it is advised that educators supplement the cards with local (history) examples. The cards were created using images and information researched online, with sources noted on the back of the cards. The cards are created for exclusively non-profit educational purpose and use, in classrooms or non-formal educational settings.
