Publicado por: Juventud Rebelde BERLÍN, enero 17.— El inglés Howard Webb recibió hoy la distinción de mejor árbitro de 2010 por la Federación Internacional de Historia y Estadística del Fútbol (IFFHS). Webb, que pitó la final de la Copa Mundial de Sudáfrica, superó en las votaciones al uzbeko Ravshan Irmatov y al suizo Massimo Busacca, ocupantes de la segunda y tercera posición, respectivamente. El ganador, de 39 años, es el primer árbitro del Reino Unido que recibe este premio, gracias a sus brillantes actuaciones en la liga inglesa, la Liga de Campeones de la UEFA y partidos de selecciones absolutas, aunque su participación en el partido decisivo del Mundial entre España y Holanda dejara mucho que desear. La IFFHS declaró que este sufragio se realizó con la participación de redacciones de determinadas editoriales y expertos de 83 países de todos los continentes. Los 20 primeros referees de la lista pertenecen a 17 naciones, cinco de Latinoamérica, 13 de Europa, y dos de Asia.
