Highlights Needs

 More than 74,000 people were reached with various WASH services conducted by 690k People in need of WASH nine WASH partners namely AFRINET, services in NW/SW ASWEDO, COMINSUD, EPDA, GCR, H4BF, NRC, PLAN and REACHOUT. 414k Targeted  WASH partners (AFRINET, ASWEDO, COMINSUD, GCR, NRC, PLAN and 679k1 IDPs REACHOUT) reached over 50,000 people

through hygiene promotion activities while 52 over 18,400 people were reached through WASH partners COVID-19 sensitization activities. $9.5m  NRC commemorated the Global Hand- washing day in schools in the N/W (North- required for WASH West) region where over 2,000 pupils were $14.7m sensitized on the importance of washing hands with soap and running water.

 H4BF conducted eight trainings for 200 $154k girls and women on the use of dignity and Required Funded hygiene kits.

WATER  NRC carried out water point assessment of four different water points in the N/W region. Residual chlorine tests were also done at six different water points in Bamenda 1 and Bamenda 3 (Sisia, Alahtenin, Abangoh, New Road and New layout) to determine residual chlorine levels of these water points so as to ensure that the water is not contaminated.  In October, COMINSUD rehabilitated three spring water sources used by approximately 1,500 people in Bamenda 2, and sub-divisions.  REACHOUT contributed to improving access to safe water through construction of one shallow well (equipped with hand pump) in sub-division while AFRINET is currently rehabilitating five water distribution systems that will benefit over 5,000 people in West Coast and sub-divisions of and Kupe Manenguba respectively.  COMINSUD conducted three water user committee trainings for 15 people in peri-urban communities of Bamenda 2, Tubah and Kumbo sub-divisions.

HYGIENE  As part of activities to commemorate the Global Hand-washing Day organised at the Molyko Integrated Health Centre in , NRC distributed 750 pieces of washing soap to over 236 individuals. NRC also donated 20 hand washing stations to Green Light Bilingual Nursery and Primary school Ntarinkon and the CBC Primary School Nkwen in the N/W region where over 2,000 pupils were sensitized on the importance of washing hands with soap and running water.  In Bamenda 3 sub-division of , H4BF conducted eight trainings for

Photo by NRC.  WASH partners (AFRINET, ASWEDO, COMINSUD, GCR, NRC, PLAN and REACHOUT) reached over 50,000 people through hygiene promotion activities in Bui, Donga Mantung, Fako, , , , , Mezam, , and Ngo-Ketunjia divisions.

SANITATION  PLAN International rehabilitated 15 emergency latrines in 15 Child Friendly Spaces in Mezam and Fako divisions in the N/W and S/W (South-West) regions respectively. Over 1,800 children are expected to use the latrines.  AFRINET, with support from UNICEF, constructed eight latrine blocks in Bangem, Nguti and sub- divisions of Kupe Manenguba and sub-division of Meme. The latrines are expected to benefit at least 400 people.  COMINSUD, supported by UNICEF constructed 32 emergency latrines that will benefit over 1,600 people in Bui, Mezam, Donga-Mantung, Menchum, Momo and Ngo-Ketunjia divisions.  Sanitation and hygiene promotion activities conducted by AFRINET, ASWEDO, COMINSUD, GCR, NRC, PLAN International and REACHOUT in Bui, Donga Mantung, Fako, Lebialem, Manyu, Meme, Mezam, Menchum, Momo and Ngo-Ketunjia divisions reached over 50,500 people during the reporting period.

COVID-19  In Kupe Manenguba, Manyu, Mezam, Momo and Ndian divisions, AFRINET, NRC and EPDA reached at least 18,400 individuals through COVID-19 sensitization activities. The sensitization mainly targeted market places, host and IDP communities as well as peri-urban locations.

COORDINATION  The Strategic Advisory Group (SAG) and WASH cluster meetings for the North- were held on 29 October. Key outcomes of the cluster meeting included: needs analysis for HRP 2021 completed, data collection tool for the N/W water points database agreed, WASH Cluster and SAG Terms of Reference were reviewed. GAPS/Challenges • In October, the security situation was relatively stable compared with September, especially in the N/W region. However, the killing of innocent students in slowed down implementation of WASH activities such as distribution of WASH kits and sensitization on good hygiene and sanitation practices especially in Meme division. • Bad roads caused by the heavy rains was one of the main challenges in October.
