History shows us that agricultural shows hold a great meaning for Australian communities from their humble beginnings in 1822 in Tasmanian where the first show was held to today’s wonderful community events such as the ever popular Fred’s pass Show. Agricultural shows are an excellent vehicle to bring people together in the vastness of our lands and because many people and families are geographically isolated and a once a year show presents opportunities to meet, talk, exchange breeding programmes and talk farming technology, show case produce and handicraft and for families to enjoy fun and entertainment all day long. The core of any agricultural show historically was farming or rural activities and modern days show continue this theme although somewhat diluted. We should not lose sight of the fact that shows are about produce off the land and the people who work the land. Shows are about a celebration of life and without farmers and their efforts we would be poorer and probably hungry. This year’s show is the 40th and what a remarkable achievement by the countless volunteers who have made the event such a Territory marvel. This year, join me in celebrating everything we love about the rural area and everything we love about our community. Three days of feasting, frivolity and fanfare – don’t miss out, get your membership now and start planning your entries for this once in a life time celebration. Regards, Hon. Kezia Purick MLA Member for Goyder and Patron, Freds Pass Rural Show

Who’s up for the ‘Ruby’ Challenge? I am so looking forward to see how our contributors, sponsors, participants respond to the committee’s challenge to make this year’s 40th show a sparkling ruby event. Will we see pink cows, rabbits, chooks and plants - maybe, all things red in the cooking department - Rosy Red School projects? All for lots of ruby red prizes. With a new logo and branding to celebrate this will be a not-to-be-missed event for the whole family. Council is a proud sponsor of the show and we look forward to working together with you to showcase our fantastic Litchfield community! On a historical note, if you have any photographs featuring the Freds Pass Show over the last 40 years, let the show committee know as they will be setting up an area for memorabilia. I thank the Show Committee for their tremendous work this year and over past years. I would like to also acknowledge the many sponsors and volunteers without whose assistance this event would not be possible.

4 www.fredspassruralshow.com.au COMMITTEE WELCOME

Welcome to the 40th Freds Pass Rural Show. The Show Committee is delighted to be able to celebrate the 40th Year with the community of the Northern Territory. In celebrating our “Ruby Anniversary” we will bring an array of fabulous activities and family entertainment. Our new Coordinator, Donna Mitchell has hit the ground running. This is thanks to the Northern Territory Government funding which was supplied by the NT Show Council through the Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture. Donna brings a fresh young perspective to the event and has commenced revitalisation with our new look logo for the 40th Anniversary and branding for this year’s Show. Our Paddock to Plate marquee will again be a feature for this year’s show with headliner Chefs, Lynton Tapp (Master Chef), Betty Banks (My Kitchen Rules) and Rachael Ciesiolka (Master Chef). There will be lots of demonstrations using local produce sourced from local suppliers and producers from the Northern Territory. This year we will be also hosting a “Paddock to Plate” 50km Feast which will be a sit-down dinner under the stars at Freds Pass Sport and Recreation Reserve on the Friday evening prior to the Show. Tickets will shortly be available for this spectacular dinner and will be an event not to be missed. Everything rural will be served at the Feast with a magical setting under lights. Produce will be used from local farmers and will delight our tastebuds by Chefs Jimmy Shu, Rachael Ciesiolka and Justin Witlow. Our Entertainment program for 2019 is not to be missed. The headliner for the show is Shannon Noll showcasing his greatest tracks from YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE (YOLO), SHINE, DRIVE, and of course his nod to WHAT ABOUT ME! Then we have local entertainers playing their original music covering both the Feast and on the main stage. Freds Pass Rural Show has a “buy local” policy and where possible will utilise a local NT Supplier for everything that is purchased for the Show. This year the show is introducing a plastic free policy. The committee will encourage all stallholders to become plastic free in 2019 and has a strong focus on sustainability for our future generations. The committee thanks our major Partners, Northern Territory Government and Litchfield Council for continuing to see the benefits of supporting this Rural event. Thanks also to all sponsors who have agreed to support at various levels in 2019 including Berry Springs Tavern, Coolalinga & Districts Community Bank, Inpex, 1300 Temporary Fencing , Allan Kings & Sons Constructions, Ategra Computer Technology, Taylor’s Carnivals, Nautilus Aviation, Kirkland Lake Gold, Dept of Primary Industries & Resources, TTS Refrigeration,Tropix Homes, Freds Pass Sport & Recreation Reserve, Dept of Corrections, Hospitality partner Rydges Palmerston and our media partners. Thank you to all the new and existing supporters who have come on board to provide funding for the prize monies in the various sections of the schedule. Please support your local people who have taken the time to see the benefit of supporting the largest event in the rural area. The Show will continue to showcase and celebrate everything that you have come to expect at the Show including arts and crafts, agriculture, pastoralism, equestrian and great family entertainment throughout the entire weekend. The committee is always seeking volunteers to help in the lead up and during the show. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and may also assist with future employment prospects. Please contact Donna at the Show Office on 0488 588 202 if you can help. We hope to see the local community support our event by attending and making our 40th “Ruby Anniversary” the best yet. This years entertainment line up is one fitting the Shannon Noll occasion of a 40th celebration, headlined by true blue Aussie fave Shannon Noll! Shannon Noll has become a legend, a meme, an everyday hero and a county boy who stands by his word and convictions. He is also a proven Australian music icon. His rise to fame as the first runner-up of the first series in 2003 changed his life from farm hand in Condobolin forever. Certified triple-platinum sales, number #1 hits, five top 10 albums, has 17 platinum and three gold accreditations, and boasts a reputation as the only Australian male artist in national chart history to have ever achieved ten consecutive top ten singles. Nollsie will join us to celebrate our 40th Anniversary performing some of his greatest tracks from YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE (YOLO), SHINE, DRIVE, MY BODY LOVES TO PARTY and of course his nod to WHAT ABOUT ME. This special celebration will have Shannon performing some songs he has not done for years and ear marking them with anecdotes and stories to match. Undeniably, Shannon Noll has captured the hearts and minds of music fans around Australia and overseas with his raw, gifted rock voice. He remains one of the most recognisable names and faces in the Australian music industry with only a few matching his success. This is a show you don’t want to miss!

Burger Joint: After their house shaking performances at Woodford recently, crowd favourites from last year Burger Joint make a triumphant return. G & T-bone are this country's finest two-piece party band wielding some tasty loop dominated disco and funk that will get to smiling, moving and grooving. Serina Pech: Triple J darling and Territory born and bred star makes her Freds Pass debut with her new band in tow. Originally from Katherine and now based in the top end, Serina's voice drips like honey over soulful and thoughtful tunes that feel like they are written just for you. One of the hardest working singers getting around, Bridey Rose, shows you where hard work gets you - one of the best live shows in town! With her band the Good Fellows, it's a little rock, a little pop, a little soul, but a heck of a lot of good. David Garnham & the Reasons to Live look like truckers but sing like angels. They're no oil painting, but they have a good attitude. From toe-tappers and thigh slappers to sentimental moments, DG&TRTL will fix what ails ya. Kyle Maher is one of the most exciting young acts in the Territory - layers of groove and cool - Kyle's music floats around your head to help you get through moments that pull us down. Brett Ireland is a real deal Blues man and full of blues. contradictions: powerful and refined, strong and sweet, but rough and ready. From the swamps of the rural area comes one f the best live acts - he knows his way around a stage as much as he does a guiter and a harp.

Soul, blues, jazz and funk, Jigsaw Collective mixes genres like a celebrity bartender. Layer smooth vocals with some horns and harmonica, stir in equal measures of funky piano riffs and guitar syncopation, pour over double bass grooves - shake and serve! The perfect way to end your Sunday in the paddock. Top: Burger Joint Below: Ash Grunwald www.fredspassruralshow.com.au 11 ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAM
