Intelsat states that Intelsat 27 is scheduled for launch in the fourth quarter of 2012 or first quarter of 2013. EchoStar 47 76.84WL EchoStar filed this request to de-orbit EchoStar 4 from its current location of 76.85 WL, where it is operating as a Mexican-licensed DBS, for a period of 30 days. EchoStar states that the satellite will be transferred to a disposal orbit at least 300 km above the geostationary arc. AMC-5 79.1WL SES Americomfiled this request to drift AMC-5 from 79.05 WL to 79.10 WL and to maintain the satellite at 79.10 WL with an expanded east-west station keeping tolerance of +/-0.1 degrees for a period of 30 days. SES Americomis seeking authority to conduct TT&C operations and does not intend to activate the communications payload during or after the drift. -

01/21 UAS – Low Hanging Fruit India Still to Pluck Air Marshal Anil Chopra PVSM AVSM VM VSM (Retd) Director General, CAPS 22 April 2021 Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) began making unmanned aerial system (UAS) with the Fluffy target drone in 1970s, which was replaced by the reusable, subsonic, pilotless target aircraft Lakshya that first flew in 1985. Around 30 were produced and operated by all the services. The advanced version Lakshya-II was flight-tested in January 2012. In March 2017, Air Force version of Lakshya-II was flight tested. The Army-centric Nishant is a multi-mission UAS with day/night capability for battlefield surveillance and targeting, and was first flown in August 1996. DRDO claimed it equivalent of IAI’s Searcher. Finally only four were built. A wheeled version of the Nishant UAS, named “Panchi” is known to be under development. There are a large number of DRDO UAS projects since 1985, but what really counts is, what gets inducted into the Armed Forces. That number after nearly 45 years should have been much higher. DRDO’s Rustom Series Rustom-1 was evolved from Burt Rutan’s Long-EZ with 250 km range, for visual and radar surveillance. It was to be a tactical UAV with endurance of 12 hours, and made its first flight in November 2009. Rustom-H, is a larger UAV was with flight endurance of over 24 hours. TAPAS-BH- 201 (Rustom-2) Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAV has been derived from the National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) LCRA (Light Canard Research Aircraft), and is meant to supplement the Heron UAVs in service. -

There are however inherent consequences to human activities in outer space. The most critical challenge to the safety, security, and sustainability of outer space is the threat posed by space debris to the spacecraft of all nations. -

Space Military Exercise by France
Space Military Exercise by France March 13, 2021 In News: France has launched its first ever military exercise in space in order to “stress test” its defence systems against potential adversaries. About ASTERX. The French Space Command (CDE), created in 2019, launched its first military space exercise, called ASTERX. The name is a reference to the first French satellite to have been put into orbit in November 1965, and a nod to the famous Gaul warrior Astérix depicted in comics. First for the French armies and even the first in Europe. The newly-created US Space Force and the German Space Situational Awareness Centre are also participating in this exercise. The aim of the exercise is to evaluate French military’s ability to defend its satellites and other defense equipment from an attack. French military will monitor a potentially dangerous space object as well as a threat to its own satellite from another foreign power possessing a considerable space force,under the exercise. AsterX is part of the French government’s strategy to make the country the world’s third-largest space power. Space Command formed in 2019 in response to the growing trend of global powers deploying military equipment into Earth’s orbit. India’s Similar Initiative IndSpaceEx: India’s first space warfare exercise. Tri-Service integrated defence staff under the defence ministry is conducting the two-day “IndSpaceEx”, with all military and scientific stakeholders. To assess the requisite space and counter-space capabilities that are needed by India to ensure we can protect our national security interests in this final frontier of warfare. -
