Welcome Message from The Match, Europe v USA, is a phenomenal opportunity for American athletes to represent the U.S. in what is sure to be a stellar competition at the Dinamo National . We are the President of European Athletics excited to revive this old rivalry between Team USATF and Europe in a great battle for bragging rights.

I am very pleased to welcome everyone to Minsk Team USATF consists of over 135 athletics competitors, for The Match, this exciting inaugural outdoor duel including our highest performing and brightest up-and- between Europe and the USA. coming athletes, ready for the spotlight. We consider the opportunity to compete an honor. Minsk and the Dinamo National Olympic Stadium have already been wonderful hosts for the inaugural On behalf of everyone at USA Track & Field, we are Dynamic New Athletics (DNA) competition at the thrilled to be in Belarus for The Match. Thanks to end of June, which was a great success not least Belarus, the capital city of Minsk and European Athletics because of the excellent organisation by the Belarus for their efforts, support and hospitality. Athletic Federation and the support by local athletics aficionados. Join us as we continue our Journey to Gold and follow USATF on all our social media platforms. Consequently, I am confident will see a similarly high Enjoy the competition! level of event delivery as well as similar enthusiasm from athletics fans for this event, who filled the Dinamo Stadium almost to capacity for the DNA final a few Best Regards, months ago. Max Siegel

The origins of The Match can be traced back many years ago when I wondered why athletics didn’t have a competition that could evoke the same emotions and public attention as golf’s Ryder Cup, as well as having fond memories of the famous head-to-head international duels of the 1960s and 1970s which grabbed headlines around the world.

Team competition brings out the best in athletes, just look at the European Athletics Team Championships last month, and fans love to see team duels – as you can see and hear when the decibels rise for the relays at any major international competition – so when I became President of European Athletics in 2015, I pushed hard for the creation of The Match.

Four years later, here we are, and I intend to make sure that The Match has a permanent place on the international athletics calendar in the future.

With the IAAF World Championships Doha 2019 coming at the end of the European summer season, The Match has an almost perfect date on this year’s calendar and it will be the last major competitive outing for many athletes from both teams before they go on to seek global glory in a few weeks’ time.

I would like to pay tribute to the USA Track & Field for their full commitment to this event. They have been as enthusiastic as European Athletics about The Match and a plethora of American stars of our sport will be in action over the two days of competition here in Minsk.

All that’s left for me to say is a big thank you to the Belarus Athletic Federation, the public authorities in Minsk for their support and hospitality, and all the official and volunteers for their energy and commitment.

Let The Match commence!
