Resurgence of Kala-azar in mid seventies in Bihar, West Bengal and Jharkhand still continues to be a major public health concern. Except for Sardinia, ASF was eradicated in Europe in the late 1990s, which led to a research focus on CSF because this disease continued to be present. However, ASF remerged in eastern Europe in 2007 and the interest in the disease, its control and epidemiology increased tremendously. The similar names and the same susceptible species suggest a similarity of the two viral diseases, a related biological behaviour and, correspondingly, similar epidemiological features. However, there are several essential diferences between both diseases, which need to be considered for the design of control or preventive measures. In the present review, we aimed to collate diferences and similarities of the two diseases that impact epidemiology and thus the necessary control actions. Our objective was to discuss criti- cally, if and to which extent the current knowledge can be transferred from one disease to the other and where new fndings should lead to a critical review of measures relating to the prevention, control and surveillance of ASF and CSF.     Government data confirm that grizzly bears have a negligible effect on U.S. cattle and sheep industries In the United States, data show that grizzly bears (Ursus arctos) kill few cattle and sheep. Livestock predation data collected by various governmental bodies differ significantly, however. The most recent data published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA)1 indicate losses many times greater than those collected by states and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). For instance, the USDA claims grizzly bears killed 3,162 cattle in nine states (in 2015), while the FWS verified only 123 such losses in three states (in 2013). Montana’s Board of Livestock’s data show that between 2015 and 2018 cattle losses from grizzly bears numbered 61 or less annually. The USDA’s methodology involves collecting data from a few mostly unverified sources, which the USDA then extrapolated statewide without calculating standard errors or using models to test relationships among various mortality factors.2 This contravenes the scientific method and results in exaggerated livestock losses attributed to native carnivores and dogs. Unfortunately, this misinformation informs public policies that harm native carnivores, including countless legislative attacks on grizzly bears, wolves and the Endangered Species Act. The Humane Society of the United States analyzed the USDA’s embellished predation numbers. Their data show that farmers and ranchers lose nine times more cattle and sheep to health, weather, birthing and theft problems than to all predators combined. In the USDA reports, “predators” include mammalian carnivores (e.g., cougars, wolves and bears), avian carnivores (e.g., eagles and hawks) and domestic dogs.

Conclusion: In this case, leptospirosis was cured without the use any kind of medication, being acupuncture a good therapeutic option, reducing the necessity of the patient’s admittance into a hospital, minimizing the costs of the treatmentand restoring the patient to a normal life very quickly.

    BIANNUAL COMMUNICABLE DISEASE SURVEILLANCE REPORT #2 An overview of the public health nurse surveillance of THE TOWN communicable diseases in Grafton, MA, Jan 1 – Dec 31, 2020. 2020OF GRAFTON Grafton Biannual Communicable Disease Surveillance Report #2, 2020 Defining Case Classifications for Communicable Diseases In the U.S., the States mandate the reporting of certain diseases by law or by regulation. The diseases that are reportable to state and local health departments differ from state to state; however, certain diseases are considered nationally notifiable diseases. The list of nationally notifiable diseases is updated annually. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in collaboration with the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE), publishes case definitions for public health surveillance for the nationally notifiable diseases. These case definitions provide uniform criteria for reporting cases and are case specific. The case status for most diseases is determined as follows: • A confirmed case is one in which the clinical case description is met and the laboratory confirmation requirement is met. A case may also be considered confirmed if it is linked to a laboratory-confirmed case. Certain diseases may not include laboratory findings as testing is not available. • A probable case is one in which the clinical case description is met and there is supportive or presumptive laboratory results consistent with the diagnosis but, it does not meet the laboratory confirmed criteria. • A suspect case is one in which the clinical case description is met. • A revoked case is one in which neither the suspect, probable, nor confirmed case definition is met. A significant amount of information gathering must be collected for many diseases before a case classification is final.
