She had recently come off starring roles in popular TV series Baywatch and Ally McBeal and had appeared in the film Shallow Hall, alongside Gwenyth Paltrow. Her star was shining bright. Then, on Nov. 11, 2005, she took a dive that would change the course of her life. In the backyard of her Los Angeles home, Burns dove into her swim- ming pool and smashed her head at the bottom of the pool, breaking her neck. Miraculously, Burns survived the incident with no signs of paralysis; however her recovery wasn’t without its challenges. At the time she was working on the television show, Pepper Dennis, for Fox. To protect herself from others accidentally bumping into her, and set- ting back her recovery, Burns walked around set with a neck brace and hoola-hoop. A doctor’s note al- lowed her to take her neck brace off in three-minute increments, just enough time to shoot her scenes. Despite her physical challenges, Burns says the accident also had a strong emotional impact on her daughter, Madison, who was just five years old at the time. “I think she internalized it in the beginning and then about a year later we were hiking together and I stubbed my toe and she started crying and asked if I was going to have to go to the hospital,” says Burns. “I realized that it was still alive in her, that an injury, no matter how small, could be much larger and scarier to her. • Celebrity News: Actress Brooke Burns Says, “Love Is the Inspiration for Life”
Celebrity News: Actress Brooke Burns Says, “Love Is the Inspiration For Life” By Sarah Ribeiro Actress Brooke Burns, who is perhaps best known for her role on Baywatch, hits the small screen this weekend in the premiere of Lifetime’s made-for-television movie, A Sister’s Revenge. In the film, she plays Suzanne Dell, a relentless woman seeking revenge on the man who hurt her sister many years ago. “It was a really fun role to play because of Suzanne’s single-minded evilness,” says the blonde beauty. “She’s a rich, layered character who justifies incredible wrongs because of her deep love and devotion to her sister. Her desire to avenge her sister’s death blinds her to reality.” Despite this merciless role, Burns tends to focus her career — and her life — on love. She just shot the pilot for GSN’s new dating show, Where Have You Been All My Life?, which she will be hosting. The show is rumored to be a modern-day version of the popular 70’s show, The Dating Game, but she explains that the only similarity is that there is one “looker” who is interviewing three bachelors or bachelorettes. “It’s different in that we show a timeline of the date’s photos from birth to young adult life,” the host reveals. “The questions are focused on getting to know the person throughout his or her life. We do occasional ‘status updates’ and a ‘friend request’, so the show is congruent with the very popular social media and online dating scene of 2013.” Related Link: Online Dating Isn’t a Threat to Monogamy – It’s a Blessing Burns says she was attracted to the show because it focuses on the psychology of dating, which is important to someone who is a self-proclaimed hopeless romantic.

‘CHRISTMAS CONNECTION’ Cast Bios BROOKE BURNS (Sydney) – Brooke Burns has worked as an actress, host and TV personality in the entertainment industry since she was 18 years old. Most recently, she was nominated for an Emmy Award® for her work as the host of the hit series “The Chase,” GSN’s speed trivia game show that has attracted nearly 20 million viewers since its premiere in August 2013. She recently starred in “Gourmet Detective: Eat, Drink and Be Buried,” which marks her fourth starring role as Maggie in the “Gourmet Detective” original movie franchise for Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. A trained ballerina from age Two, she showed great promise as a professional ballet dancer by the time she was a teenager. Burns, a Dallas native, and her family moved to Romania when she was 12, and she had the opportunity to study with the Romanian Opera Ballet. Her dance career abruptly ended at age 15, when she badly damaged her knee in a skiing accident. The following year, supporting her love of travel, she moved to Europe and modeled in Paris, Milan and Munich. But her effervescent personality is what caught the attention of television and film producers alike. Shortly after her move to Los Angeles to pursue acting, Burns landed her first television role on “Ally McBeal.” In her first feature, the Farrelly brothers are said to have seen a disarming and beguiling sense of humor in Burns. They created a tailor-written role for her in the 2001 film Shallow Hal, remarking in her audition that she was the “prettiest dorky girl” they'd ever met.

  • Brooke Burns' Scary Spinal Cord Injury Gave Her a New Purpose
RESEARCH JUNE/JULY 2015 BY LINDA CHILDERS Brooke Burns’ Scary Spinal Cord Injury Gave Her a New Purpose ~e actress broke her neck in a pool accident and narrowly avoided paralysis. Now she's a passionate advocate for those with spinal cord injuries. On a warm November night in Los Angeles almost 10 years ago, Brooke Burns dove into her black-bottomed backyard swimming pool just as she had so many times before. "It was my nightly routine. I didn't even think about it," Burns recalls. "But one of the pool lights was out, and I misjudged the depth and hit my head on the bottom." A quick-thinking friend who was visiting the night of the accident jumped into the pool as soon as he saw her in distress. Trained as a firefighter and paramedic, he immediately immobilized and supported her neck, keeping her afloat until the paramedics arrived. "My friend let me remain in the water and didn't put any pressure on my spinal cord, and as a result he saved both my life and my mobility," Burns says. Doctors inserted a titanium rod, two plates, and 10 screws to stabilize Burns' neck. GETTY IMAGES/ANDREW SHAWAF/THE LIFE IMAGES COLLECTION Indeed, immobilizing someone with a suspected neck or back injury is critical, says Steve R. Williams, MD, a professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Frazier Rehab Institute in Louisville, KY. "Movement may cause further damage to spinal cord nerves, resulting in possible paralysis below the site of injury," he says. "Brooke's friend did the right thing." Most people aren't as lucky as Burns.
