The Ossining Bicentennial Committee is pleased to announce that The Ossining Story: A Bicentennial Celebration 1813–2013 is now available for purchase. This special-edition souvenir journal commemorates Ossining’s 200th birthday, honoring its past and present. Ossining became the first incorporated village in Westchester County in 1813, when it was still known as Sing Sing. The journal is the culmination of the work of many Ossining residents who cherish our village’s history. Its managing editor, Martha Mesiti, Town Historian and a lifelong resident, reached out to the organizations that comprise Ossining’s vibrant community to share their histories. Over 60 groups responded, including the Police and Fire Departments, houses of worship, educational groups, military groups, historical organizations, social and service groups, and more. Mesiti also commissioned articles of historic interest from local authors and historians, covering such topics as the village’s unique architecture, Sing Sing marble, Sing Sing prison, and historic personalities like the Old Leather Man. The 160-page book is only $10 a copy, and will be available at all Bicentennial events. In addition you can pick up your copy at the Ossining Municipal Building (16 Croton Ave.), Ossining Public Library (53 Croton Ave.), Joseph G. Caputo Community Center (95 Broadway), and the Dorsey Funeral Home (14 Emwilton Pl.). Copies may also be purchased online at the Village of Ossining Web site www.villageofossining.org and www.CelebrateOssining.org.

Words & Music Concert Series brings Joe D’Urso & Stone Caravan to the Budarz theater with special guest Christopher Brown The Ossining Library Foundation’s critically acclaimed Words & Music Concert Series presented by TD Bank returns on Sunday, November 17th at 2:00pm with a performance by Joe D’Urso & Stone Caravan plus special guest Christopher Brown. Joe D'Urso & Stone Caravan, an Americana/Jersey Shore/Rock & Roll band, released their 13th album, "Sway" in January 2013. In describing the album as “a fine and moving gem” Joe Wawrzyniak of JerseyBeat.com said “D’Urso’s straightforward songwriting has a plain-spoken simplicity to it that cuts right to the heart of the matter with a refreshing clarity and dearth of pretense.”

Christopher Brown is not only a singer songwriter, but an artist-illustrator who can capture a subject's essence through caricature. With a few strokes, he reveals hints of a character's nature or temperament, their mystery or charm. Westchester-based Brown does the same thing with lyric and melody, outlining and shading characters and moments, even yearnings and states of mind.

Hosted and curated by Ossining resident Alan Marzelli, the Words & Music series brings well known singer-songwriters and recording artists to the Library’s 200-seat Budarz Theater for free Sunday afternoon concerts. All performances begin at 2:00pm. Doors open at 1:30 and seating is on a first come, first served basis. The Ossining Public Library is located at 53 Croton Avenue in Ossining.
