Many of them become food for something else! We will investigate the contents of owl pellets in this program to learn predators and prey in the nearby woodlands. A great program for those 6 and older. Free for members, $5 for non-members. Sunday November 10, 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm Got Worms?! It’s a very busy world under the leaf litter, and some of that energy can be harnessed for home composting. We’ll discover the difference between different types of worms and make a worm bin to take home. Fun for families! Free for members, $5 for non-members. Additional $8 fee per bin. Saturday November 16, 10:00 am – 11:30 am Trail Trek – Hidden Valley Join a Teatown educator on a hike through Hidden Valley to discover the lingering remains of autumn and how nature is getting ready for winter. All welcome! Free for members, $5 for non- members. Sunday November 17, 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm Winter Tree ID Learn to identify native trees using their twigs, buds and bark. Adults only. Free for members, $5 for non-members. Mariandale Activities: Yoga for Relaxation, Rejuvenation and Balance Rejuvenate your body, mind and spirit through yoga and alignment. Included: - postures to tone, stretch and strengthen the body and relieve tension; - safe alignment techniques to ease and optimize the effects of the poses; - meditation and breathing exercises for calming, soothing, and reducing stress. Wear comfortable clothing. Bring a blanket or two, a towel and mat. Eat lightly, no more than an hour before class. Instructor: Chris Glover Six week series: Series C: January 2 - February 6, 2013 Thursdays: 6:45 - 8:00 pm Fee: $20 - $25 per individual session (as you are able); $90 - $110 for any 6-week series (as you are able) Group Counseling Sessions: Loss Although loss is universal, it is also uniquely personal. Loss is never meant to break us or wound us so deeply that we remain devastated. If you feel that any loss you have experienced has left you feeling shattered and your life shredded, you are invited to join these group counseling sessions with a qualified counselor, to listen and share and see how loss can have an honored place while healing from brokenness takes place. Aucoin, SC, LMHC 6 Mondays; Group B: November 4, 11, 18, 25; December 2, 9 6:30 - 8:30 pm Fee: $120 - $140 for 6 group sessions (as you are able) Hands for Hope Program: Learn to Knit Give yourself the gift of time set apart to nurture your creativity. We will introduce the basics of knitting in this two-hour session and plan a series of six sessions convenient for the participants. Bring a pair of Size 10 knitting needles and worsted weight yarn. Instructor: Martha LaVallee Saturday, November 9 10:00 - 12 noon Fee:$20 for morning session only ($35 includes lunch and afternoon Sit & Knit Together) A Hands for Hope Program: Sit & Knit Together All levels of knitters are welcome to come and share this time set aside for knitting andconversation. We will each work at our own pace, with help available for those tricky questions about stitches, instructions, and techniques. Knitting in a group is always a chance to learn new things, share ideas, and expand our understanding of this age-old craft. Ongoing sessions will be set up according to the needs of the group. Instructor: Martha LaVallee Saturday, November 9 ~ 1:00pm - 3:00 pm Fee: $10 (include lunch for $20) Ongoing Contemplative Formation: Encountering the Heart of God Contemplation allows us into the inner sanctuary of the "heart" to encounter the Mystery. Through the vision of Teilhard de Chardin and archetypal images of the heart, we will be invited to experience God in new depths. Felice Petrello, co-founder and vice chairperson of Community Helping Hands, will present the program. Thursday, November 7 at 6:30 pm at the Briarcliff Manor Public Library -Friday Night at the Movies: - The Way, Way Back (PG-13) Shy 14-year-old Duncan goes on summer vacation with his mother, her overbearing boyfriend, and her boyfriend's daughter in this coming-of-age comedy starring Steve Carrell and Toni Collette.
