Message From Jamaica’s Ambassador To The United States

ingston College continues to provide a fi rst-class education for students in Jamaica. This education encompasses more Kthan the pursuit of learning through books and computers – but it certainly includes this element. Beyond the intellectual component, however, Kingston College seeks to promote the development of the whole man, with character- building, self-confi dence, a charitable spirit, social understanding, and commitment to positive values being important hallmarks of the College product. And, of course, the College man is famous for his commitment to his alma mater. If you scratch a KC Old Boy – from 1925 forward – you will see purple blood. If you converse with him for more than a minute, you will be regaled with stories of “Priest”, “Dougs”, “Mr. Johnno” and many other stalwarts, leaders who have built the foundations of the school and thereby created the basis for Kingston College’s prowess in many areas of life. Tonight’s event organized by the New York Chapter of the KC Old Boys Association – under the careful guidance hand of President Bloomfi eld -- fi ts fully within the College tradition. As KC Old Boys meet to commemorate the past, celebrate recent successes and refl ect on future prospects, we also meet to mark our commitment to promoting further progress at the school. We meet to offer support to our able Principal Dave Myrie and to the strong staff complement that keeps Kingston College on its forward march through history. May Kingston College, and the Kingston College Old Boys Association, prevail in all their activities. Fortis Cadere Cedere Non Potest! MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD CHAIRMAN

ongratulations to the Kingston College Old Boys Association, USA Inc. as you host your 31st Annual Reunion and Awards CBanquet to celebrate achievements and acknowledge contributions. I also congratulate your Honorees this year, Basil Anderson, Michael ‘Q’ Bennett and Livingstone ‘Danny’ Young who have in diverse ways given service to your Association and to Kingston College. I thank them for their service. Theirs is the kind of dedication and commitment which is required of each of us in the Kingston College family. Your Association continues to make an invaluable contribution to our alma mater and to the welfare of our students. On behalf of the Board of Management, I extend sincere thanks and appreciation. In doing so, I must mention the Kingston College Library and Technology project in respect of which you started a capital campaign in 2013. This project has the blessing of the Board and we do hope that your goal will be achieved. Such a facility will provide tremendous benefi ts to students and teachers and is consistent with our vision for the future development of the school. It would be a fi tting achievement if it becomes a reality in 2015 as the school celebrates its ninetieth anniversary. I encourage all of your members to give their support to this initiative. As we continue to make and implement plans to realise our mission to provide to our students an education that enables them ”to reach their full potential and develop skills to become independent, self suffi cient adults who will succeed and contribute to a global society”, I can report that we have made some progress in 2013. We have enhanced the physical environment through infrastructure improvement on both campuses, highlighted by a major renovation of Melbourne Park and an upgraded main entrance gateway as well as refurbished classrooms and air-conditioning of staffrooms at North Street. The year also saw signifi cant improvement in academic performance with over 80% of the fi fth form students achieving fi ve or more CXC passes; seven students featuring in the top 10 in Jamaica in four subject areas for CAPE Units 1 and 2 and the unprecedented achievement of six students being admitted to the UWI Medical Faculty in the same year. No doubt your guest speaker, our Headmaster, Dave Myrie, will provide further information to you. The Board of Management wishes for you a successful and enjoyable Banquet and looks forward to continuing to work with your Association and indeed all members of the Kingston College community as together we continue “building for the future”, the inspiring theme which you have adopted this year. Message from Kingston College Development Trust Fund

he Kingston College Development Trust Fund (KCDTF) Is very pleased to offer heartiest congratulations to the Kingston TCollege Old Boys’ Association USA Inc. on the occasion of the publication of your thirty fi rst Annual Reunion Journal. The New York Chapter of the KCOBA deserves congratulation and thanks for their outstanding example and leadership in support of the Alma Mater over the years. The stature of the College and its successes are to a large extent due to the efforts of a supportive K.C. family kept robust mainly through the activities of the Old Boys’ associations. Commendations are in order to President Rainford Perry Bloomfi eld and his executive for the recent launch of the Kingston College Library and Technology Capital Campaign which aims at completing the Douglas Forrest Building by 2015 with library, computer facilities and additional classrooms. The KCDTF has pledged its support and urges old boys and friends to give full support. We need to remind everybody that donations to KCOBA USA Inc. as well as donations to or through the KCDTF in Jamaica are tax deductible. The KCDTF welcomes opportunities like the Annual Reunion Journal to repeat for the benefi t of the K.C. family the purpose of the Trust and to give a brief update of its operations. The inviolable capital fund now stands at about J$54 million. The projects which were identifi ed by the Board and funded by the Trust in 2013 were roof repairs at the Melbourne campus and to the staffroom at the North Street campus. K.C. loyalists must keep reminding prospective donors that the Capital Fund must be built up to provide interest income for signifi cant school projects in perpetuity, also that donations qualify for personal tax rebate and funds invested by the Trust are free from tax on interest. Kingston College, led by the new dynamic Headmaster, Mr. Dave Myrie, and the new Board Chairman, Mr. Michael Vaccianna, is poised for signifi cant improvement in the near future. We pray for God’s blessing as we work to turn out young men with the vision and skills to transform societies and the world. Woodburn D. Miller Chairman KCDTF

Message Fron UJAA

t is my pleasure to bring greetings to you Kingston College Old Boys’ Association on the 31st anniversary of your Annual Reunion Iand Awards Banquet. Thirty one years is evidence of consistency and patience, hallmarks of success. Obviously, this is a trait that has been passed on over the years to this membership. It is borne out of the disciplines learned as students yourselves and is an example to the students on North Street. They themselves have made you proud by their achievements academically and athletically. So I add my congratulations to you and Kingston College as you celebrate 50 years of participating in the Penn Relays Carnival at Franklin Field in Philadelphia. Your theme this year, “Building for the Future”, leads me to invoke a request that I fi nd to be appropriate to Kingston College and our nation. As you celebrate, I ask that you pause for a moment and consider extending your support and join ranks with the other UJAA members to make a difference in advancing education in Jamaica. There is such a great need for collaboration in the Diaspora, particularly from the alumni associations, as we “build” more schools like Kingston College. There is a strong belief among stakeholders in Jamaica and here in the Diaspora that the galvanizing of the alumni associations brings a greater impact to the education landscape. You can still remain loyal and committed to your school while you support the greater need to advance education.. I have often said in messages like these that UJAA provides the opportunity, and the invitation is open to join the conversation. We will be calling on you. In the meantime, tonight’s celebration relives your love, support and commitment to Kingston College. Congratulations honorees. Welcome Mr. Dave Myrie, principal and Guest Speaker. Message from KCOBA Florida

ope springs eternal…..Kingston College has infl uenced lives since 1925, the birth of Power Purple, the indomitable Purple HSpirit, Fortis Always, Fortis Forever, Non Potest!! The hope that KC will continue to produce men of valor, upstanding and caring citizens ad infi nitum is the wish of everyone in the KC family. This achievement depends on leadership at all levels of KC life but none more important than that of Principal Dave Myrie. It is therefore imperative that ALL KC Old boys, individually and collectively provide the total support required for success at Clovelly and Melbourne Parks. Those of us that have visited the school recently recognize that there is work to be done, the dustbowl we call a track and football fi eld, the roughshod surface of the basketball court come easily to mind but the general outside appearance of the school, the well-dressed (all ties up to the neck!) and disciplined boys are promising signs of a school moving forward. The continued excellence in all spheres of school life, Schools Challenge Quiz, National Debating Champions, Under 19 Southern Conference Basketball and Corporate area Under 16 Table Tennis winners are good building blocks. I hear some of the rumblings but I’m confi dent we will also win the Big ones in the very near future (Jamaica Scholar, Champs, Football) but more importantly churning out well prepared Jamaican citizens EVERY year. To this end KCOBA Florida again salutes the yeoman efforts of KCOBA New York for its stellar work under the leadership of the energetic Rainford Perry Bloomfi eld. Innovative thinking and dreaming big on KC’s behalf are always welcome and appreciated. To the honorees (Messrs. Basil Anderson, Michael Bennett and Livingstone Young) we say “very well done” and the KC family entreats you to” carry on” with your invaluable contribution to KC life. Fortis Cadere are we yes, also Cedere Non Potest, ALL for KC yes, yes, yes! Ivor Nugent

Message from KCOBA Toronto

think it is safe to say that the last few years have been some of the most progressive that Kingston College has seen in the recent I past. This is due, in no small part, to stalwart efforts by the Kingston College fraternity not the least of whom are the Kingston College Old Boys in New York. You have worked tirelessly, in conjunction with the other chapters and the school, to install, update and improve wherever necessary. Indeed many projects in recent memory have been spearheaded by your chapter. I think of the Nutrition Program as well as the Scholarship Program which both support and encourage many needy students at KC, and drive them to excel academically and in other extracurricular activities. This year, as you host the thirty-fi rst installment of your Annual Reunion and Awards Banquet, you have chosen to honour three fi ne individuals who’ve contributed greatly to the well-being of those around them. Mr. Basil Anderson, Philanthropist & Distinguished Alumnus, Mr. Michael ‘Q’ Bennett, Distinguished Lab Technician and Mr. Livingstone ‘Danny’ Young, Distinguished Alumnus. These awardees complement a long list of honourees fully deserving of all the recognition they’ve received. On far too many occasions we’ve failed to recognize those who’ve toiled quietly doing good and wonderful things which have gone unnoticed. Your organisation endeavours to right that shortcoming. We send you greetings and offer congratulations to the recipients this evening; and may this evening’s banquet prove to be your best yet. Under the proud leadership of Mr. Rainford “Perry” Bloomfi eld, the New York chapter has gone from strength to strength. Keep up the great work. Fortis! The leadership of President Bloomfi eld and your board of directors play an important role in marshalling resources for the benefi t of Kingston College (KC). I wish to congratulate all the honorees who are being recognized for their achievements, hard work and dedication. Messrs. Basil Anderson, Michael ‘Q’ Bennett and Livingstone ‘Danny’ Young, you are a shining example for many to emulate. Your theme for this year’s Banquet, “Building For The Future” is certainly in line with the direction of KC as the future of KC looks bright and promising. The commitment of our old boys and various chapters will play our part in making this theme a very rewarding pursuit. We are certainly proud of the many achievements by KC over the past year. Amid the disappointments in some areas, we still emerged victorious in many other areas of sports and academia. The stewardship of Principal Dave Myrie and his staff have “turned the corner” in our quest back to the top. May our alma mater continue this climb to regain our top-spot as the all-conquering purple giants Congratulations In closing, I hope you have an exciting Mr. Basil Anderson evening and a very successful Awards Banquet. ALBANY Deputy Majority Leader 31st ANNUAL REUNION & AWARDS DINNER MESSAGE FROM ASSEMBLYMAN N. NICK PERRY

Fortis!

It is with immense pleasure that I write as a proud member of the Kingston College family, and also on behalf of all the people I represent in the 58th Assembly District, to extend our warmest and best wishes to the Kingston College Old Boys’ Association, USA, on the occasion of our 31st Annual Reunion Awards Dinner.

This year’s theme, “Building for the Future” is fitting, as we will this evening celebrate the culmination of our KC Library and Technology Campaign. The campaign, which has raised nearly one quarter of a million dollars, will complete the Douglas Forrest Building, provide libraries, technology resource centers, classrooms and teacher incentive programs on both KC campuses. The additional space will allow KC to retain its brightest students, who due to space limitation, were often turned away from completing their sixth form at KC.

Most importantly this project will guarantee that future generations of KC Old Boys can, and will compete in this global village in which we all now reside. No school, in any part of this globe, can afford to not put in the hands of their students the technology which will allow them to excel in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math. Investing in the education of our youth is the single greatest investment we can make in our future, and by allowing KC to accommodate the students seeking the most technological advanced, engaging and immersive educational experience will insure that our motto of Fortis Cadere Cedere Non Potest, will echo across the globe for generations to come.

It is with great delight that I offer my congratulations to tonight’s distinguished honorees, Basil Anderson, Michael ‘Q’ Bennett, and Livingstone Young. Also, I offer a warm K.C. welcome to our guest speaker Principal David Myrie. All of these outstanding and distinguished honorees exemplify all that Kingston College and our alumni association stands for, never yielding to doubts and obstacles that may get in our way in order to maintain our alma mater as the educational crown jewel of Jamaica. For that I applaud you all.

Congratulations to all Old Boys on our efforts to promote our alma mater, and allow me to acknowledge and commend the very hard-working team of officers, and committee members for their tireless efforts in organizing this extraordinary event. May this evening’s event be safe and successful in meeting all our goals.

Fortis,

31st Reunion Kingston College Old Boys’ Association, U.S.A. Congratulations to the entire Fortis Family on this the 31st Reunion & Awards Dinner, sponsored by KCOBANY. Special congratulations to Mr. Donovan Davis, the Kingston College Track & Field coach, who first fielded a Jamaican high school team at the Penn Relays fifty years ago, thereby setting an example for other Jamaican high school teams who, along with KC have so distinguished themselves there. As Kingston College celebrates almost 90 years of excellence, I am proud to be a member of the Fortis Family and to acknowledge a great debt of gratitude to our alma mater. May we continue to work together to promote and support Kingston College for generations to come. FORTIS FOREVER! AN URGENT APPEAL We need $5M to purchase Two Linear Accelerator Machines for Jamaica I am appealing to everyone especially our Caribbean brothers and sisters. I have been asked to purchase a Linear Accelerator Machine for Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay, Jamaica costing approximately US $5 Million. I met with the minister of Health, Dr. Fenton Ferguson a few weeks ago. He asked if I can purchase two machines as Kingston needs one also. If 500,000 people give a one-time donation of $10, we will be closer to our goal. Please send donations to Vincent HoSang Family Foundation (VHFF), 117 Route 303, Suite B, Tappan, NY 10983. Your donation is tax deductible. Thanks for your kind support. Vincent HoSang Chairman, Caribbean Food Delights 117 Route 303, Suite B, Tappan, NY 10983 Phone: 845-398-3000 • Fax: 845-398-3001
