September an gleicher Stelle stattfinden wird, einen würdigen Rahmen. Weltmeister Deutschland zeigte sich auch ohne meh- rere beim Europacup der Pokalsieger im Einsatz befindlichen Stammkräfte, wie Tibor Weißenborn, Sebastian Bieder- lack und Philipp Zeller, in einer bemerkenswerten Frühform. Das WM-Stadion wurde für die Peters-Schützlinge beim Premierenturnier zur Festung. Drei Siege, bei nur einem Gegentor, reichten zu einem beeindruckenden Er- folg. Besonders wichtig dabei, nach drei Niederlagen in Folge, war der Erfolg über Europameister Spanien. Bundes- trainer Bernhard Peters flog gleich im Anschluss nach China, um beim Qualifikationsturnier zur WM die letzten fünf Teilnehmer unter die Lupe zu nehmen. Für DHB-Präsident Stephan Abel war die dreitägige Veranstaltung in wichtiger Meilenstein: „Wir haben uns auf die Eröffnung dieses Stadions seit Jahren gefreut. Jetzt ist es endlich eingeweiht. Wenn man erlebt hat, welche Stimmung hier jetzt schon auf den Rängen war, dann kann man erah- nen, wie die Atmosphäre im September bei der WM sein wird. Natürlich lief noch nicht alles rund.
