Andrew Wainwright was born 12 May 1946 in Toronto, Ontario. He received his B.A. (Hons.) in 1969 at the University of Toronto. He spent time in the early 1970s travelling to Spain, Greece and England. He moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia to pursue his MA (1973) and PH. D. (1978) in English at Dalhousie University. He has been an English professor at Dalhousie University since 1979, focusing on modern and postmodern (Canadian) literature; Native-Canadian Studies; gender studies; multicultural fiction and poetry; intercultural issues and popular culture. Wainwright’s first foray into Canadian literature was as editor of an anthology called Notes for a Native Land in 1969 and Soundings : New Canadian Poets in 1970 with Jack Berry Ludwig. He followed by writing the poetry Moving Outward (1970), The Requiem Journals (1976), After the War (1981) and Flight of the Falcon: Scott’s Journey to the South Pole 1910-12 (1987). He later wrote a work of non-fiction, World Enough and Time: Charles Bruce, A Literary Biography in 1988. He also edited a collection of letters and reminiscing in A Very Large Soul: Margaret Laurence’s Letters to Canadian Writers (1995). Further works written by Wainwright include Landscape and Desire: Poems Selected and New (1992); A Deathful Ridge: A Novel of Everest (1997); A Far Time (2001); The Confluence (2007); Blazing Figures: a Life of Robert Markle (2009). He has also edited The Mulgrave Road : Selected Poems of Charles Bruce (1985) ; Border Lines : Contemporary Poems in English (1995) and Every Grain of Sand : Canadian Perspectives on Ecology and Environment (2004). Andrew Wainwright in two installments, one in 1992 and the other in 1995. Scope and content This fonds includes correspondence from other Canadian writers, 1969-1995 ; manuscripts of published poetry and books, 1969-95; manuscripts of unpublished poetry, 1960-83; and research notes.
