WELCOME TO SCHENECTADY- MOVING FORWARD Dear Chamber member: Your Chamber had an eventful and productive year in 2005, meeting challenges and expanding membership and programming opportunities. In a business environment and economy that has provided no shortage of issues to address, the Chamber has increased its commitment to member services and has taken proactive community leadership roles as well. During the 2005 year, and through the efforts of our Strategic Plan, we have continued to address the concerns of the business community in the county and have ensured that the Chamber is main advocate for its members and prospective members. We successfully preserved the 109th Airlift Wing’s home in Schenectady County and their mission to Antarctica. The Schenectady Military Affairs Council worked with many others to build community awareness that helped keep the Stratton Air National Guard Base as an integral member of our county. Together with other area chambers Schenectady continues to participate in the Tech Valley Chamber Coalition seeking new opportunities in the exciting expansion of Tech Valley, such as the new TechValley web portal www.techvalley.com. The Chamber has positioned itself as the lead facilitator for technology programs in Schenectady County. In the coming year we will be collaborating closely with other regional chambers to improve the regions technology value. In the area of tourism, we continue to host a growing travel industry that is creating a renewed interest in Schenectady and the many offerings we maintain. Our staff has made presentations to organizations in the county to spread the word about Schenectady’s many new highlights. Our Holiday parade and networking events have showcased some of the many improvements to the downtown Schenectady landscape. We are exceedingly proud of the programs we offer. During this past year, both the number of programs and the attendance at our networking, educational, and community events have reached all time highs. We play a key role in the area and have plans for increasing and improving our role going forward. On behalf of our board of directors and staff, I thank all of you for supporting The Chamber of Schenectady County. I am honored to be associated with driving a successful business climate, and I look forward to the coming year. Best regards, Martin S.
