His career included positions in Turkey, Martinique, France, Morocco, South Africa, Senegal, and Kenya, and an ambassadorship to the Congo. And it ha..ened that the Consul in Brazzaville, who had o.ened the post after the war, died of a heart attack at the end of '59. So they called me from Washington and asked if I'd like to go there.
