This will be the second installment as the Ralph O’Connor Rice Invitational, TEXAS TECH honoring the man who meant so much to Rice University in general and Rice Tennis specifically since he first NAME YR. HOMETOWN/PREVIOUS SCHOOL came to Houston in the early 1950’s. Isaac Arevalo Jr. Mazatlan, Mexico / Prepa Abierta The George R. Brown Tennis Center, which began hosting the event in 2015, only exists thanks to his family’s lead gift, but true to his humble nature, the facility bears not his name, but that of his father-in-law from Dimitrios Azoidis Jr. Limassol, Cyprus / Lanitio Lyceum whom he developed a deep love for the sport. In 2019 Rice University held a celebration of Ralph’s life after a Justin Bloss Sr. El Paso, Texas / K12 International Academy women’s match vs. his alma mater (Johns Hopkins) and at that time, the street outside the venue was formally Reed Collier So. Seabrook, Texas / Clear Falls High School acknowledged as O’Connor Way and the rebranding of the tournament was also announced.
