  • Chopin Day in Rapperswil Organised by the Arthur Rubinstein International Music Foundation, Lodz in Cooperation with the Polish Museum in Rapperswil
Chopin Day in Rapperswil Organised by the Arthur Rubinstein International Music Foundation, Lodz in cooperation with the Polish Museum in Rapperswil “Chopin Day in Rapperswil” will take place in Rapperswil’s medieval castle, which for almost 140 years has housed the Polish Museum. The event, a cultural collaboration between the Rubinstein Foundation and the Polish Museum, marks the 160th anniversa- ry of the death of Frederic Chopin (Paris, 17/10/1849) and the coming 140th anniversary of the founding of the first polish museum – the Polish National Museum in Rapperswill (23/10/1870). We would like raise the profile of Poland’s rich culture in Europe, and we are going to stage the Year of Chopin 2010, which will celebrate the 200th anniversary of Chopin’s birth (Żelazowa Wola, 01/03/1810). We will also celebrate the greatest Polish ‘Chopinist’ (interpreter of Chopin’s works) of the 20th century, Arthur Rubinstein, who was born in Lodz in 1887 and died in Switzerland in 1982, and whose portrait can be seen in the Polish Museum’s Gallery of Distinguished Poles. A week before (17th October 2009) – on the 160th anniversary of Chopin’s death – the foundation is organising “Chopin Day in Lodz”, consisting of a mass, concert and exhibition held in Lodz Cathedral. Please contact the organisers to reserve places and to receive invitations for the events. In inviting everybody to the celebrations and events, we urge those willing to help out finan- cially or with expertise to contact the Rubinstein Foundation. For more information please visit www.arturrubinstein.pl and www.muzeum-polskie.org Town square in front of entrance to castle courtyard, Rapperswil (May 2009, fot.

Geomarketing News GfK releases 2019 purchasing power for Austria May 8, 2019 and Switzerland Thomas Muranyi Public Relations T +49 7251 9295 280 Regionalized GfK purchasing power data for Austria, Germany [email protected] and Switzerland Bruchsal, Germany, May 8, 2019 – According to GfK’s latest study, the Swiss have a 2019 per capita purchasing power of €42,067, signifi- cantly outpacing the Austrians (€24,067) and Germans (€23,779). But there are substantial regional differences within and between these countries with respect to available net income. According to GfK’s prognosis, Switzerland’s almost 8.5 million inhabitants have a total purchasing power of €356.9 billion in 2019 (excludes Liechten- stein). Austria’s approximately 8.8 million inhabitants have around €212.3 billion at their disposal in 2019, while Germany’s approximately 82.8 million inhabitants have €1,968.7 billion. Purchasing power is a measure of the nominal net income available to the population, including government subsidies such as unemployment assis- tance, child benefit and pension contributions. The population uses these funds for consumer purchases as well as expenditures related to accom- modation, recreation and savings. These actions have been tested by simulating the decisions of existing firms. The parameters for these simulations have been es- timated with a discrete choice model using data of the commercial registers of the cantons St.Gallen and both Appenzell covering the years 1991 to 2006. The aim of this paper is to show not only the effects, but also to detect potential negative side effects.

Nº11 NEWS 12/2018 Free Form // Underwater wood construction in South Korea Modular constructions // A pilot project for the school of tomorrow Event construction // Zurich E-Prix banks on sustainability Jobs in timber construction // Five specialists and their career paths 02 /EDITORIAL Dear Customers, Business Partners and Friends of Timber Construction Timber construction isn't a trend – it's a key aspect of sustainable development. The world’s most renowned architects have been working with wood for a long time now and are bringing it back to urban centres. Modern technologies and building processes in timber construction are as future oriented as the material itself. They enable quick and accurate construction, facilitate work on site with a high level of prefabrication and open up new prospects for clients, architects and planners. Over the past year, we have once again been able to create extraordinary and spectacu- lar timber constructions – in places like the UK and South Korea and, for the most part, in Switzerland. Incidentally, like our Austrian neighbours, we Swiss are leaders in timber construction. Visiting groups from all over the world attest to this time and again. On the following pages, you can see for yourself why, 143 years on, we’re still fascinated with wood – and Swiss wood in particular. We look forward to moving into the future with you, our valued customers and partners. It's about making construction projects happen. But it's also about working together to develop digital tools in planning and execution processes. Our expertise, our reliable services and our committed, skilled employees are what is needed to make this happen.

  • Urban Utilities in Switzerland: Current Situation and Opportunities for the Private Sector
Executive Master’s Program in Innovative Governance of Large Urban Systems (IGLUS), EPFL Year 2017/2019 Urban utilities in Switzerland: Current situation and opportunities for the private sector Master’s Thesis Supervisor: Prof. Matthias Finger Student: Carmen Araquistain Portela In partnership with ENGIE Abstract Local governments in Switzerland are very relevant actors in the governance scheme of the country. The delivery of local services related to water and energy is one of the local governments’ main tasks and has a long tradition of public provision. In the last few decades, a shift from in-house production to the corporatization of the utilities has emerged, although the public sector is still predominant. This thesis explores the current situation of urban utilities in Switzerland and if there are opportunities for the private sector in the provision of energy services. Keywords: utilities, Stadtwerke, energy, Switzerland, public-private partnerships, local services Acknowledgements I want to thank Prof. Finger for building up the IGLUS network and giving me the chance of being part of it by participating in the Executive’s Master Program, and for his valuable and enriching guidance throughout the development of the modules and this master’s thesis. I would like to thank as well all the IGLUS team members that have been and are part of the project, and special thanks to Umut Alkım Tuncer for his dedication as a manager of the program. Thanks also to my parents and those who have been an essential support during these very changing and challenging two years. • Gfk Releases 2016 Purchasing Power for Austria and Switzerland
Press release GfK releases 2016 purchasing power for Austria April 13, 2016 and Switzerland Cornelia Lichtner Bruchsal, Germany, April 13, 2016 – New 2016 GfK purchasing power Public relations data is now available for Austria and Switzerland. Purchasing power T +49 7251 9295 270 levels vary substantially both between and within these two F +49 7251 9295 290 [email protected] neighboring countries. GfK's study reveals the regional distribution of this purchasing power. GfK forecasts a 2016 per-capita purchasing power of €42,300 for Switzerland. According to the GfK study, the total purchasing power for Switzerland in 2016 is €348.5 bil. (excluding Liechtenstein), while the total 2016 purchasing power for Austria is approximately €193.5 bil. The latter figure corresponds to an average of €22,536 available to each Austrian for consumption, rent and living costs. Due to Germany's significantly larger population, its purchasing power of €1,776.5 bil. is many times higher than that of its previously mentioned neighbors. The average German thus has a 2016 purchasing power of €21,879. Purchasing power measures the available net income of the population, including government subsidies such as unemployment assistance, child benefit and pension contributions. GfK's study illuminates the regional differences in these values, revealing the regional distribution of purchasing power within and between each individual country.
