A strong education system was brought by Muslims when they first arrived to the region, helping embed religion into almost all aspects of public and private life. Madrassas (religious educational institutes) were the center of these educational activi- ties and provided guidance not only for religious matters, but for worldly affairs. Students studied science, medical and engineering courses, algebra, geometry, logic, and philosophy alongside fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and Arabic and Persian grammar. The broad and practical nature of the syllabi enabled the students of madrassas to be good doctors, engi- neers, architects, teachers, and statesmen.[1] However, with the advent of British rule in 1857, madrassas began to lose their influence. The British built new schools to train people in administrative affairs and divided the system of education into two separate domains: religious and secular, traditional and modern, old and new.

    Legal Practitioners & Bar Councils Act, 1973 1 LEGAL PRACTITIONERS AND BAR COUNCILS ACT, 1973 [ACT XXXV OF 1973] An Act to repeal and, with certain modifications, re-enact the law relating to legal practitioners and bar councils The following Act of the National Assembly received the assent of the President on the 22nd February, 1973, and is hereby published for general information:- Whereas it is expedient to repeal and, with certain modifications, re-enact the law relating to Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils and to provide for certain incidental and ancillary matters; It is hereby enacted as follows:- CHAPTER I PRELIMINARY 1. Short title and commencement.--(1) This Act may be called the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act, 1973. (2) It shall come into force at once. 1[1A. Overriding effect.--The provisions of this Act shall have effect notwithstanding anything inconsistent therewith contained in any other law for the time being in force.] 2. Definitions.--ln this Act, unless there is anything repugnant in the subject or context,-- 2[(a) "Advocate" means an advocate entered in any roll under the provisions of this Act;] (b) "Bar Council" means a Bar Council constituted under this Act; (c) "Common roll" means the common roll of advocates of the High Court or, as the case may be, the common roll of other advocates prepared and maintained by the Pakistan Bar Council under this Act; 3[(cc) Omitted]; 1. Cotton Cultivars Abdul Ghani Lanjar, Bhai Khan Solangi, Sajjad Ali Khuhro* and Abdul Waheed Solangi Department Of Entomology, Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam *Corresponding Author: SAJJAD ALI KHUHRO Email: [email protected] Abstract A field study was carried out to examine the resistance potential of promising cotton cultivars to insect pest infestation, during the year 2012. Five cotton varieties were examined for their resistance against insect pests including Hari Dost, Shahbaz-95, NIAB-78, Sindh-1 and Bt Cotton. The insect pests monitored in this study included thrips, jassid, whitefly and bollworms. The experimental process for monitoring the insect pests was initiated on 15 th June 2012 and lasted on 12 th October, 2012. The results showed that thrips population was significantly (P<0.01) lowest (6.28/plant) on Haridost, against 9.22/plant on NIAB-78, 13.79/plant on Bt cotton 14.89/plant on Sindh-1. while the highest thrips population (15.21/plant) was recorded on Shahbaz-95. The peak thrips population was noted on 12 th July observation on all three verities while on Bt cotton, the peak thrips population was recorded on 19 th July. Bt Cotton. The peak activities of jassid was recorded in the month of August. Overall mean showed that the signifactly highest (P<0.01) population of jassid was recorded as (3.59/leaf) on Sindh1 followed by Bt cotton (2.81/leaf), Shahbaz (2.80/leaf), Niab -78 (2.19/leaf) and Hari dost (1.63/leaf).
