Mature larvae and pupae of Coniocleonus (Plagiographus) nigrosutura- tus (Goeze, 1777) (Curculionidae: Lixinae: Cleonini) are described and compared with three other cleonine taxa with known larvae. The biology of the species was studied in Romania, Hungary and Slovakia. Common Stork’s-bill (Erodium cicu- tarium) (Geraniaceae) is identi¿ ed as a host plant of both larvae and adults of this weevil. The weevil is very likely monophagous, and previous records of thyme (Thymus sp., Lamiaceae) as the host plant hence appear incorrect. Coniocleonus nigrosuturatus prefers dry, sunny places in grassland habitats, with sparse vegeta- tion, bare ground and patchily growing host plants. Overwintering beetles emerge in early spring (March), feed and mate on the host plants. The highest activity of adults was observed from mid-April to mid-May. -

Altogether, the 1060 species and subspecies out of the 10 families are composed of 21 Anthribidae, 129 Apionidae, 3 Attelabidae, 847 Cur cu lio - ni dae, 7 Dryophthoridae, 9 Erirhinidae, 13 Nanophyidae, 3 Nemonychidae, 3 Raymondionymidae, and 25 Rhynchitidae. Further, 13 synanthropic, 42 introduced species as well as 127 species, solely known based on old records, are given. For all species their synonymous names used in Swiss litera- ture are provided. 151 species classified as doubtful for the Swiss fauna are listed separately. Munis Entomology & Zoology, 5 (2): 559-562] ABSTRACT: During 2006-2008 subfamily of Lixinae was surveyed in North eastern and east provinces of Iran. In total, 27 species belonging to 15 genera were determined. Among them three species including of Larinus sericatus (Boheman, 1834), Bangasternus provincialis (Fairmaire, 1863) and Conorhynchus verucundus (Faust, 1883) are new record for Iran fauna. KEY WORDS: Curculionidae, Lixinae, Khorasan, Iran, new records. Khorasan is the widest region in Iran (with total area 315686 Km²) that is divided in three provinces concern Khorasan Junoubi, Razavi and Shomali. This area surrounded by Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, also linked with four provinces include Kerman, Balouchestan, Yazd and Semnan. Curculionidae is currently the largest family of insects in the world with at least 3600 genera and 41000 species. Lixinae is a subfamily of true weevils, included three tribes Cleonini, Lixini and Rhinocyllini. Main characteristic of this subfamily include tarsal claws are fused at the base, and labial palps are short and telescoping. In addition, their body is elongated shape as for some other weevils, tibiae bear and uncus on its distal end and the rostrum is forwardly directed (Boothe et al., 1990). -

Fragmenta entomologica, Roma, 44 (1): 101-161 (2012) CURCULIONOIDEA FROM GOLESTAN PROVINCE, NORTHERN IRAN (Coleoptera) HASSAN GHAHARI (*) and ENZO COLONNELLI (**) INTRODUCTION The superfamily Curculionoidea, also known as weevils or snout- beetles, contains some 62,000 species and around 6,000 described genera (Thompson 1992; Kuschel 1995; Farrell 1998; Oberprieler et al. 2007; Alonso-Zarazaga & Lyal 1999, 2002, 2006, 2009). Although Curculio- noidea, being the most speciose of all the beetle superfamilies, are a suit- able taxon for insights into the evolution of diversity, yet they remain a challenging taxonomic group in terms of stability of classification (Mar- valdi et al. 2002). Curculionoidea, despite their considerable diversity of form and size, can be recognized by their distinctive more or less long snout and clubbed and mostly geniculate antennae. Almost all of them are plant feeders, being several species associated with a narrow range of hosts, in many cases living only on a single species. The larvae are short, fleshy, apodous, and live as endophytes as a rule, only immature stages of a few species being ectophagous. This superfamily includes a large number of agricultural and forest pests (Bajtenov 1974; Anderson 1993, 1995). Golestan province is in the north-east of Iran and south of the Cas- pian Sea (fig. 1). Geographically, Golestan is divided into two sections, the plains and the mountains of the Alborz range. In the eastern Alborz section, the direction of the mountains faces northeast and gradually de- creases in height. The highest point of the province is Shavar, at 3,945 m above sea level. Golestan climate is temperate for most of the year. -

Haack Abstract: Summary data are given for the 25 new species of exotic bark- and wood-boring Coleoptera first reported in the continental United States between 1985 and 2005, including 2 Buprestidae (Agrilus planipennis and Agrilus prionurus), 5 Cerambycidae (Anoplophora glabripennis, Callidiellum rufipenne, Phoracantha recurva, Sybra alternans, and Tetrops praeusta), and 18 Scolytidae (Ambrosiodmus lewisi, Euwallacea fornicatus, Hylastes opacus, Hylurgops palliatus, Hylurgus ligniperda, Orthotomicus erosus, Phloeosinus armatus, Pityogenes bidentatus, Scolytus schevyrewi, Tomicus piniperda, Xyleborinus alni, Xyleborus atratus, Xyleborus glabratus, Xyleborus pelliculosus, Xyleborus pfeilii, Xyleborus seriatus, Xyleborus similis, and Xylosandrus mutilatus). In addition, summary interception data are presented for the wood-associated beetles in the families Bostrichidae, Buprestidae, Cerambycidae, Curculionidae, Lyctidae, Platypodidae, and Scolytidae, based on the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service “Port Information Network” database for plant pests intercepted at US ports of entry from 1985 to 2000. Wood-associated insects were most often intercepted on crating, followed by dunnage and pallets. The five imported products most often associated with these 8341 interceptions were tiles, machinery, marble, steel, and ironware. Abstract We summarize knowledge of the weevil tribe Cleonini worldwide, including its monophyly, relationships, distribution, biology, immature stages, economic significance and paleontology. We score adult morphological characters for 79 of a total of 96 extant genus-group Cleonini taxa considered valid to date. The resulting matrix contains 121 parsimoniously informative characters scored for 145 ingroup (Cleonini) and 29 outgroup terminals. Maximum Parsimony (MP) and Bayesian Inference (BI) analyses consistently recover monophyletic Lixinae and Cleonini. Relationships within the latter remain unresolved with either 47 (BI) or 37 (MP) branches radiating from the tribe’s most recent common ancestor. -
