Interclub Dinghy Nationals
COMMODORE Thomas H. Schlichting VICE COMMODORE Brian J. Murphy REAR COMMODORE Peter Towner SECRETARY John Economides TREASURER Donald Kearney May 2017 Tel. (617) 846-CPYC Web site: www.CPYC.ORG Interclub Dinghy Nationals The weekend of April 8th and 9th brought 27 Interclub Dinghies to CPYC to race their National Championship in the waters sailed by the Winthrop Frostbite Sailing Club most winter Sundays. Boats came from Annapolis to Maine. Organizers Bill Rothwell, Steve Braver- man, Linda Epstein, and Dave Nelson did a terrific job putting a fun weekend together. Unfortunately the weather on Sat did not cooperate forcing the cancellation of all racing due to winds gusting into the 30’s. Many thanks to CPYC for opening the bowling alleys, pool ta- bles and darts to keep the sailors occupied during the postponements. Sunday brought a beautiful day with lighter winds allowing the race committee to get in 10 races. Thanks go to the many CPYCers who worked the race committee, and lent their boats to the regatta. Racing was extremely close with less than a second between boats at the finish on numerous occasions. The regatta was won by Ted Ferra- rone and Meredith Killon, 2nd Stephen Benjamin and Brooks Davey, 3rd Paul-Jon Patin and Felicity Ryan, 4th Art and Jennifer Rousma- niere, 5th Jim Bowers and Lydia Brown. • Edition 5 • April 2011 Spring Has Finally Sprung and We Have an Abundance of Exciting Things Planned for This Year at TBYC!
www.tbyc.org • Edition 5 • April 2011 Spring has finally sprung and we have an abundance of exciting things planned for this year at TBYC! Firstly the Summer Glitter Ball on June 4th has had a huge response, and 170 of you have bought tickets - making it a massive sellout event! So ladies and gentlemen, have your sequins, diamonds and sparkles at the ready for what is guaranteed to be a fantastic night. April will be a busy month, not only for TBYC but also London, with the Royal Wedding on April 29th. We are planning a big Royal Wedding Party on that night with a red, white and blue “Back To The 80's” theme, so don't miss out on one of the biggest parties of the year! Not forgetting the Easter weekend hog roast on Sunday April 24th. Keep your eyes peeled for tickets and ticket discounts for those who buy them for both events. These will be on posters around the club and on the website. Let us know if you have been to any great events elsewhere and would like to see them at TBYC, whether it be a casino night, a cocktail party or beer tasting. Let us know - we would love to have your great ideas! Finally, we are going to start offering a combined ticket booking discount for certain events, like the hog roast and Royal Wedding party, and people who attend the Christmas party will receive a discount on tickets for New Year’s Eve. We hope this will encourage more ticket buying and bookings! Kylie Hello, I would like to introduce myself to you. -
Vyc Yardsticks
Yachting Victoria Inc ABN 26 176 852 642 2 / 77 Beach Road SANDRINGHAM VIC 3191 Tel 03 9597 0066 Fax 03 9598 7384 YACHTING VICTORIA YARDSTICKS - 2013-14 Date: 1st Oct 2013 Version: 1.0 INTRODUCTION These yardsticks are prepared to provide the fairest possible calculation of results for mixed fleet racing. New and modified classes appear every year and it is important to gather information and review results as quickly as possible. For dinghy classes there have been no changes to the original Yardsticks published for the 2013/14 season, as results for review have not been forthcoming. In the absence of race results data for dinghy classes and new internationally sourced classes, where there is yardstick data from overseas available, a comparison is made with other international classes to derive an equivalent Yachting Victoria yardstick value. This is explained further down in this document. Fortunately for catamaran classes, there has been significant work done by the Kurnell Catamaran Club in reviewing various catamaran ratings, as well as validating the ratings against the international SCHRS system. This work has now been incorporated into the YV yardsticks for catamaran classes. Much appreciation goes to KCC for this good work. Catamaran yardsticks are now contained in a separate document: “YV - Cat Yardsticks13_14 v1.0” USE OF THE YV YARDSTICKS A club which intends to run a race or event under the Yachting Victoria Yardstick system should include in the Notice of Race and in the Sailing Instructions clauses based on the following: 1 The version of the YV Yardstick System that is to be used in calculating the mixed class fleet racing results. -
2019 One Design Classes and Sailor Survey
2019 One Design Classes and Sailor Survey [email protected] One Design Classes and Sailor Survey One Design sailing is a critical and fundamental part of our sport. In late October 2019, US Sailing put together a survey for One Design class associations and sailors to see how we can better serve this important constituency. The survey was sent via email, as a link placed on our website and through other USSA Social media channels. The survey was sent to our US Sailing members, class associations and organizations, and made available to any constituent that noted One-Design sailing in their profile. Some interesting observations: • Answers are based on respondents’ perception of or actual experience with US Sailing. • 623 unique comments were received from survey respondents and grouped into “Response Types” for sorting purposes • When reviewing data, please note that “OTHER” Comments are as equally important as those called out in a specific area, like Insurance, Administration, etc. • The majority of respondents are currently or have been members of US Sailing for more than 5 years, and many sail in multiple One-Design classes • About 1/5 of the OD respondents serve(d) as an officer of their primary OD class; 80% were owner/drivers of their primary OD class; and more than 60% were members of their primary OD class association. • Respondents to the survey were most highly concentrated on the East and West coasts, followed by the Mid- West and Texas – though we did have representation from 42 states, plus Puerto Rico and Canada. • Most respondents were male. -

Certainly this was an ac- complishment to be proud of for all those involved the regatta activities. This includes the regatta committee, club officers, sponsors, donators, club members, workers, race committee, and participants, young and not quite as young. So many hands went into making this regatta a success that to recognize individual names would be dangerous as someone would be left out accidentally. It is also essential to state that this kind of money could not have been raised without tremendous support and participation from the Pleas- ant Park and Winthrop Yacht Clubs and the commu- nity of Winthrop. Nature provided the regatta with very light winds on Saturday and inclement weather Sunday. However Enjoying the cocktail party on the pier approximately 120 boats competed in the regatta be- tween the Chase Race for big boats, the One Design classes, (R19s, Thistles, 21s, Star’s and Snipes), and the youth classes, (Lasers, 420s, N-10s and Optimists). For race results see page 5. The CR914s raced informally during Saturday’s pier cocktail party. A roast beef dinner was served by our junior sailors to approxi- mately 300 hungry participants.
