Pond Inlet, or Mittimatalik as it is known by local residents, is a place of beauty and charm where elements of traditional Inuit Culture meet and blend with modern-day technology. A prime example of this interaction is the community’s active participation in theatre and film, and it would be hard to imagine a more beautiful setting. Pond Inlet is known as one of the most picturesque communities in the North, and attracts visitors from around the world. There are numerous activities available nearby including hiking, backcountry camping and ski-touring at Sirmilik National Park, bird watching at the migratory bird sanctuary at Bylot Island, dogteam trips with local outfitters, and sea kayaking in Eclipse Sound. The nearby floe edge provides ready access to wildlife such as polar bears, narwhals, and seals. Access to Pond Inlet : By Air The Pond Inlet airport is serviced by three different airlines. Air service to Pond Inlet is available from all Canadian, American and European locations through connecting hubs at major cities. Usually Ottawa, Winnipeg or Edmonton. Sure you can brave the cold if the temperature drops but you can’t shoot without light! This part of Nunavut experiences 24 hours of darkness in the winter and 24 hours of daylight in the summer. Wouldn’t it be something if you decided to shoot in December! Her performance level comes through her grace and her deep life experience, and these special attributes help the story along. Koopa is also very helpful in script workshops. She is an inspiration to the youth in showing them that if you have the right attitude, learning never stops. Having talent and interest on both sides of the camera. Eepa’s greatest attribute is his winning attitude. He notices what needs doing, figures out how to help, and is soon reliably performing that task, be it husky dog wrangling or delivering a challenging line of dialogue in either language. Lamech Kadloo Lamech’s previous experience within the field of film, on camera and behind the camera, encouraged and challenged is very useful. Lamech meets all challenges head on. Playing the lead role in “Kiviuq” was an exhausting experience for Lamech, as he appeared in nearly every shot, but it gave him the chance to develop the kind of discipline that actors everywhere can use. He is able to perform under extreme conditions. His dedication to getting the job done is rarely seen in someone so young. His interest was revealed at school, and through participating in Tununiq Arsarniit Theatre Group, has grown into a passion. The experiences he now owns as a result of participating in both a classroom hands-on theatre program and a practical film training program are rarely available to one so young. Theatre Acting Experience 2010 “Night” - Toronto Human Cargo / Pond Inlet, NU, Iqaluit, NU & Gananoque, ON 2010 “Maktaaq” Commercial Nassivik High Media Class/ Pond Inlet, NU 2009 “Night” - Toronto Human Cargo/ Pond Inlet, NU, Ottawa, ON & Yellowknife, NT, Whitehorse, YK, Inuvik, NT Sheena Akoomalik Sheena is from TununiqMittimatilik (Pond Inlet), Nunavut Canada. She is the founder of the Tununiq Arsarniit Theatre Group an Inuit theatre company. Artistic Director, Producer, and Writer of “Qaggiq”-Celebrations of the Sun’s Return. Sheena acted in “Saqiyuq” novel by Nancy. She is also a cultural performer and throat singer. With her cultural performances, Sheena has performed for cruise ships and trade shows in Pond Inlet, and Clyde River, NU also Inukjuak & Montreal, QC. She has been invited to perform at Ottawa’s National Arts Centre and Canadian Museum of Civilization in Ottawa, and was featured at the 2003 National Aboriginal Day held in Edmonton, Alberta. As part of the Takijualuk School Drama group she acted in Giving Voice to our Elders, which toured to Yellowknife and Zurich, Switzerland. Movie Acting Experience 2009 – “The White Archer” Huston Productions – drumsong/ Pond Inlet, NU. Annie Painguk Peterloosie 1936 – 2011 Nunavut has lost a well-known and beloved Inuk elder. Annie had shared the Inuit Cultural performances since 1985. Some of her greatest experiences as an artist were sharing Inuit ancestors’ way of celebrating life with younger, Inuit generations and visitors from around the world. Her greatest achievement in art was: winning a National Aboriginal Achievement Award, “I have acted in the movies “Kiviuq” and “Diet of Souls” by drumsong’s Houston productions, and passing on Inuit traditions to the younger generations.” While she spoke no English, she shared Inuit traditional knowledge with people of all backgrounds through storytelling of Inuit legends and myths, and traditional ajaja and drum dancing for the younger generations so their ancestors’ way of living.
