decide to bestow on your pooch – they will love it.

ONE, TWO, HIDE! Time to put your dog’s nose to the test in the ultimate game of hide-and-seek. Hide treats or their favourite toys around the house and set your dog off on a tail wagging adventure. While it’s up to you to determine the difficulty of the game, we recommend placing it at their eye level or lower to give them a fair chance of locating the highly sought-after goodies. For a fun twist, have your partner keep your pooch busy while you hide. Once you’ve found the perfect hiding spot let the dog loose to come find you. You’ll be amazed at how quick the game will be over!

My dog never got cupboard doors to get to shoes! If you’re faced with such a crafty dog, you’ll have to outsmart your dog.

PREVENT BOREDOM Bored dogs tend to be more destructive than those who are exercised. Exercise includes walking your dog regularly, playing with them when you’re home and engaging them in stim- ulating games such as scenting or find, fetch, and fun training games. Both physical and mental stimulation goes a long way to prevent unwanted behaviours.

If you suspect that your dog may have separation distress or anxiety, call in a qualified and accredited behaviourist to assist you. Destructive chewing is a symptom of this; however, it’s usually accompanied with oth- er behaviours such as non-stop barking, urination and defecation indoors, etc.

Remember that my philosophy is training. Whenever you use punishment, essentially, we’re not training, just suppressing. Training teaches a dog how to behave, and you have to let them know, in every scenario, how to behave.
