Onder het bewerken van de eerste helft mijner grammatische studie betreffende de oud-Nederfrankische psalmen had ik tot mijn leedwezen geen gelegenheid om de handschriften zelve te vergelijken en moest ik mij dus tevreden stellen met de bekende uitgave van Heyne. Toen bij de bewerking der laatste helft de vormen zelve door mij waren overgenomen, zooals ik ze in die editie had aangetroffen, stelde ik de collatie der op de Leidsche bibliotheek berustende glossen tot later uit, dewijl toch de weinige afwijkingen van Haupt's tekst, die ik zou kunnen constateeren, op de slotsom van mijn onderzoek weinig of geen invloed zouden kunnen hebben. Door de heuschheid van den Heer bibliothecaris alhier in staat gesteld de glossen zelve met Haupt's uitgave te vergelijken, bie ik thans den belangstellenden lezer het resultaat mijner collatie aan. Gelijk nader zal blijken, heeft Haupt niet overal met de vereischte nauwkeurigheid gelezen: de veranderingen, die hij zich in de spelling van 't Latijn heeft veroorloofd, billijk ik in allen deele; maar onverklaarbaar is het mij, waarom hij op eenige plaatsen de volgorde der glossen eigendunkelijk heeft veranderd en op andere, in plaats van de lezing van den codex trouw weer te geven, onzin heeft geleverd, die niet altijd door eene conjectuur is te verbeteren. Ook op Heyne's editie heb ik eene aanmerking, die wel niet zeer gewichtig is De taal- en letterbode. Jaargang 6 2 maar toch bij eene nieuwe uitgave wel in overweging mag worden genomen: de cijfers der glossen zijn niet die van den codex, maar berusten op zijne uitgave. In deze nu moest wegens de geringe breedte der kolommen hier en daar een enkel woord of cijfer op een nieuwen regel worden toegevoegd. In plaats van de glossen alleen te nommeren naar hun aantal, zijn door Heyne ook die toevoegselen als glossen genommerd: zoo heeft b.v. afterthinsindi een dubbel nommer, omdat ongelukkigerwijze de cijfers 70, 13 op een nieuwen regel moesten worden gebracht. In het Hs. daarentegen beslaan de glossen met de toegevoegde cijfers elk maar één regel1); op zeer weinige plaatsen zijn twee glossen op denzelfden regel geschreven, waarschijnlijk omdat ze door den copiïst - over dezen hoop ik later eens te handelen - onder het alphabetiseeren vergeten waren en eerst later zijn bijgeschreven. Het papieren Hs. bevat 26 bladzijden met eene nu eens meer dan weer minder duidelijke hand beschreven: de inhoud der pagina's is de volgende: pag. 1 bevat (naar Heyne's cijfer) gl. 1-38; pag. 2 gl. 39-68; pag. 3 gl. 69-118; pag. 4 gl. 119-169; pag. 5 gl. 170-199; pag 6 gl. 200-233; pag. 7 gl. 234-273; pag. 8 gl. 274-326; pag. 9 gl. 327-372; pag. 10 gl. 373-418: pag. 11 gl. 419-470; pag 12 gl. 471-516; pag. 13 gl. 517-551; pag. 14 gl. 552-595; pag. 15 gl. 596-629; pag. 16 gl. 630-658; pag. 17 gl. 659-695; pag. 18 gl. 696-733; pag. 19 gl. 734-775; pag. 20 gl. 776-822; pag. 21 gl. 823-873; pag. 22 gl. 874-915; pag. 23 gl. 916-958; pag. 24 gl. 959-993; pag. 25 gl. 994-1046; pag. 26 gl. 1047-einde. The mythology is in general a mixture of Christian and earlier Pagan themes, and in parts seems to preserve very ancient aspects from earlier cultures that other European mythologies have either forgotten, or perhaps never had. For instance, the Romanian constellations are similar to those found in the West, but are a mixture of adapted Christian and agricultural symbols, with a few retaining historical links to the Roman conquest of Romania (then called Dacia). 2 “Zodiac” - A collection of European legends, stories and myths related to astronomy- “Reach The Sky” 2015-2017 The Making of the World By Marcel Olinescu Marcel Olinescu (September 17, 1896–February 15, 1992) was a Romanian engraver. In 1926, Olinescu went to Botoșani to teach at “A. T. Laurian” High School. The following year, he settled at Arad, where he taught drawing at the boys' commercial high school. From 1933 to 1937, he edited the local “Știrea” (The News) newspaper, while in 1931, he co-founded an artistic society in Arad. Together with other members he edited the literary and cultural magazine “Hotarul” (The Border). His book "Romanian Mythology" is one of the well know piece of his writing masterpieces.
