Special Show & Sale of 82 Freshly Calved Cows & Heifers 2 Holsworthy Dairy Event Special Show & Sale of 82 Freshly Calved Cows & Heifers OVER £3,900 OF PRIZES & PRIZE MONEY Judging commences at 11am *** Sale at 12 noon *** Wednesday 13 November 2019 Holsworthy Livestock Market, Holsworthy, Devon. EX22 7FA www.kivells.com 01409 253275 3 Welcome The 26th Annual Holsworthy Dairy Event sees a change of format from the last 25 years. We have moved the event to a daytime schedule which enables us to expand and improve upon this well established sale. We have been overwhelmed with support from vendors, sponsors, trade stands and interest from the allied dairy industry based in the South West. The new format sees a large entry of over 80 dairy cattle with Judging commencing at 11am with the sale to follow at 12noon. By moving to a daytime event we are pleased to be able to host a programme of dairy related afternoon seminars commencing at 2pm in the market canteen, The Cowshed. Seminars include dairy cattle and asset finance, calf pneumonia, Nu-era beef and the link with sexcel, making the most of you accountant, optimal milking for health and performance, feeding this year’s forage and judging the international trade fair dairy show in Kenya. In addition, we are grateful to our sponsors and trade stands for their sponsorship and involvement in the event and hospitality on their stands. Kivells have great pleasure in welcoming Tom Dauncey as the Judge for the 26th Annual Holsworthy Dairy Event on Wednesday 13th November 2019. Tom, along with his wife Caroline and son Alfie, own the Pedigree ‘Leswidden’ herd of Holstein Friesians at Leswidden Farm, St Just, Penzance. In 1998 the Dauncey Family moved from North Cornwall to St Just with their ‘Crossgate’ herd of Pedigree Holsteins changing to the ‘Leswidden’ Prefix. Their farm in West Cornwall is located 6 miles from Land’s End. The cows are grazed during the summer and fed TMR with maize and grass silage. The family’s dairy enterprise is approximately 100 pedigree milking cows plus followers. The herd is averaging over 10,000Kgs of milk per cow with the classification rates in 2017 being 90% VG or better. In 2011,Tom was awarded Master Breeder status from Holstein UK and this would come as no surprise to anyone who has visited the herd. Our judge is a highly respected Pedigree Breeder whose breeding aims are strong female families which produce sound, functional type, high yielding cows. Tom has won many awards in the Cornish Holstein Club competitions and sold cattle in both Hallworthy and Holsworthy Markets over the years. We thank Tom for agreeing to judge this event and look forward to welcoming him on the day. The 26th dairy event catalogue contains one of the largest numbers of entries we have seen for many years with over 80 freshly calved dairy cattle entered from 24 vendors. The catalogue contains 50 freshly calved heifers and 32 freshly calved cows. The sale will appeal to both commercial and pedigree dairy farmers with an excellent quality entry, comprising animals bred from 33 VG/EX dams with many having multiple generations VG/EX pedigrees. The sale includes 2 freshly calved heifers bred from 10 generations of VG/EX breeding, Lot 9, Perrins Ricki 7 and Lot 38 Mabec Aftershock Rapture 2. 4 Welcome Cont.. The catalogue contains a superb mixture of well proven, long established homebred UK families and international cow families including but not limited to the Annabel, Daisy, Eclipse Flora, Meg, Moorland, Rapture and Ricki cow families. The sale includes many high yielding families with dams yields topping at 12,719Kgs for Lot 26, heifer Laneslade Clown Man Liza who is bred from 4 generations of VG/EX including an EX92 (5) LP130 tonne 4th dam. In the cow class individual actual yields top at 11,533Kgs for Lot 50 Hury Silvan Smokey with her heifer lactation. The highest PLI in the catalogue is an impressive PLI £494 for Lot No 42 Thuborough Lulu 107. The catalogue also contains entries in Class 3 being the coloured and crossbred with Jerseys, Montbeliardes and red and white blended entries forward. We thank all our sponsors for their support this year and are pleased to have an increased prize fund of nearly £4000. Please enjoy your day and visit the sponsors and trade stands and show your support for these local businesses which are allied and important to our dairy industry. **We welcome you and hope to see you on this special event** Wednesday 13th November 11am Holsworthy Livestock Market LAIRAGE Kivells are pleased to provide lairage on the night following the sale. • Flooding Advice
BRENDON AND COUNTISBURY PARISH COUNCIL – FLOOD PLANNING INTRODUCTION The Parish Council is reviewing preparations for a severe flooding incident. As an initial step, based on information provided by the Environment Agency (EA), the following basic advice should assist residents to assess the risk to their own properties and take sensible flood precautions in advance of any incident. For more detailed information see the full EA’s advice booklet at https://www.devon.gov.uk/floodriskmanagement/. Further work is being undertaken with the public bodies to improve local emergency readiness. If you have any queries, wish to learn more, or could assist locally in case of an incident please contact Mr Mike Sinden, Clerk to the Parish Council, 01598 741323. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING AND TAKE THE NECESSARY ACTION TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY, GUESTS, AND YOUR OWN PROPERTY. ENVIRONMENT AGENCY 24-HOUR INCIDENT HOTLINE 0800 807060. RISK ASSESSMENT Brendon and Countisbury parishes cover a large area with a number of properties lying in the flood plain of the East Lyn and its tributaries. However the housing stock is widely dispersed and a number of streams and drains have the potential to cause localised difficulties in some circumstances – sometimes in unlikely places. Unusually disruptive and localised weather events seem to be becoming more common and sensible precautions should be taken by householders. Flooding events can range from minor water damage to a few properties to a large scale incident involving a serious threat to life. The Parish Council’s first responsibility is to help residents prepare for this range of possibilities.

We see ourselves as part of a story of the grace of God, made manifest in Cornwall, which stretches back many hundreds of years, possibly to the very earliest days of the Christian faith. It’s a story that calls us on into the future too, in loving mission, ministry and service. As we follow ‘The Saints Way’ we will be deeply committed to Christ and to all that he calls us to be and to do; and to Cornwall, this very special place with its own particular culture, history and identity. We can only follow that Way faithfully if we see it as our corporate calling, as the body of Christ. So we encourage ministers of the gospel to come and join us here who are committed to setting the whole people of God free in their God-given calling, to make Christ known here in Cornwall, today. So we seek clergy of missional imagination and heart; those with a pastoral passion for people and communities and their flourishing.

  • Launceston-And-Districts-Fallen-From-Both-World-Wars..Pdf
This is not a complete record of all those that fell during the two wars, with some of the fallen having no information available whatsoever. However there are 222 names from within the district that I have been able to provide a narrative for and this booklet hopefully will provide a lasting memory for future generations to view and understand the lives behind the names on the various memorials around Launceston. It has not been easy piecing together the fragments of information particularly from the first world war where many records were destroyed in the blitz of the second world war, but there are many resources now available that do make the research a little easier. Hopefully over time the information that is lack- ing in making this a complete story will be discovered and I can bring all the re- cords up to date. Of course there have been many people that have helped and I would like to thank Peter Bailey, Claudine Malaquin, Dennis Middleton, Jim Edwards, Martin Kel- land, Grant Lethbridge Morris and Michael Willis for their invaluable help in compiling this homage plus the resources that are freely available at Launceston Library. My hope is that the people will find this a fascinating story to all these souls that bravely gave their lives in the service of their country and that when we come to remember them at the various remembrance services, we will actually know who they were. Roger Pyke 28th of October 2014. Launceston’s Fallen from World War One William Henry ADAMS William was born in 1886 at 14 Hillpark Cottages, Launceston to Richard and Jane Adams.
