Disléxica y con otros problemas de aprendizaje y de visión, Dyanesa obtuvo su Master en Manejo de Sistemas de Calidad rama Ciencias, del National Graduate School of Quality Management, Falmouth, Massachusetts, EE.UU. en el 2005, con los más altos honores. Licenciada en Artes Sociales ramas de Psicología y Ciencias Políticas, con altos honores por la Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico en San Juan, Puerto Rico en el 2002. Ella ha desarrollado su carrera profesional dentro del campo de las ciencias sociales en Washington, D.C. y Puerto Rico, trabajando como funcionaria del gobierno (GS-12) en varias agencias federales tales como “The Department of Veterans Affairs”, donde trabajo actualizando y ampliando el (CFR) Code of Federal Regulations 38 Parte 38 – “National Cementaries Administration”. “The Departmant of Transportation” donde investigo, redacto y publicó un informe llamado: “HUMAN EVACUATION BEHAVIOR: ESSENTIAL TOOL FOR EFFECTIVE EVACUATION PLANNING”4 Presentado al “U.S. Under- Secretary of Transportation” en agosto 2002. Justo antes de los atentados terroristas del 11-S. En la actualidad este trabajo es un referente en varias universidades en los EE.UU. particularmente en las áreas de ingeniería de caminos. De ahí se pasó al “The U.S. Coast Guard”, entre (2002-2007.) donde se desempeñó como “Civil Rights Specialist” y finalmente “Civilian Recruter por el departamento de Recursos Humanos. Donde tiene varios informes oficiales a su nombre dirigidos a la Casa Blanca o al Pentágono, cede del Ejército Estadounidense. También fusionó como asistente de investigación legislativa y prensa en el Senado de los EE.UU. en la oficina de Honorable Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) en 2002. Desde su llega a España en el 2007, aparte de realizar sus estudios doctorales, Dyanesa ha trabajado como profesora de inglés en distintos centros de enseñanza, como la 4 http://trid.trb.org/view.aspx?id=722727 “Universidad de Castilla la Mancha” (2007-2009), colegio y secundaria “Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes” en Illescas, de Toledo y los ultimo 5 años en “Journer´s Learning Center” en la capital de Toledo. Desde el 2013 también se desempeña como examinadora oficial de Cambridge English Exams, al igual que trabaja como tutora de inglés en clases particulares y sirve de traductora para trabajos de traducción profesionales del castellano al inglés entre ellos un informe de investigación científica para la Unión Europea. Dyanesa se casó en Toledo el 14 de octubre de 2011 y tuvo una hija después de un embarazo muy arriesgado el 23 de abril de 2013. A comienzos de 2015 fue diagnosticada con esclerosis múltiple. Lo que le ha supuesto un gran reto a sus 41 años. Compaginar y salir adelante como mujer, esposa, madre, enferma y doctoranda han sido sus mayores retos hasta la fecha. Ella inicio sus estudios doctorales obteniendo su (DEA) en el 2009 en el programa de Problemas Contemporáneos en la Sociedad de la Información con el Instituto Universitario de Investigaron José Ortega y Gasset. Finalmente culmina sus estudios doctorales con esta tesis a través de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Información: Departamento de Historia de la Comunicación Social del plan: Comunicación de Masas: Información, Entretenimiento y Propaganda bajo la dirección de su tutora y mentor Amparo Guerra Gómez. Division Street, Chicago, IL 60622 • www.boricuahumanrights.org • [email protected] Oscar López Rivera Freedom Campaign People of conscience in Puerto Rico and around the world – including prominent figures such as Nobel Laureate Desmond Tutu, acclaimed novelist and activist Arundhati Roy, and philosopher and public intellectual Cornel West – have joined their voices in support of the immediate release of the longest held political prisoner in Puerto Rican history. Oscar López Rivera, 71, has spent the last 32 years of his life in U.S. prisons under torturous conditions, isolated from his people and his loved ones, and punished for his internationally recognized commitment to the independence of Puerto Rico. A community organizer, decorated Vietnam veteran, father and grandfather, he is serving a 70-year sentence for seditious conspiracy, the exact charge levied against South African freedom fighter Nelson Mandela. In López Rivera’s case, he participated in the struggle to end the U.S. colonization of Puerto Rico, which began in 1898 at the conclusion of the Spanish-American War. Though he was not convicted of harming or killing anyone, he has served more time in prison than many people convicted of violent offenses. Moreover, his co-defendants - released in 1999 by a presidential executive clemency – are produc- tive, law-abiding members of civil society. An international campaign is currently calling on U.S. President Barack Obama to immediately commute the sentence of Oscar López-Rivera. In 2014 – the thirty-third year of his incarceration – this campaign is launching a new initiative: Scholars for Oscar López Rivera.

Alejandro Molina. © 2016 Oscar López Rivera and Clarisa López Ramos Oscar López Rivera is a Puerto Rican political prisoner held 35 years in U.S. prisons. Born in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico in 1943, he is a Bronze-star decorated Vietnam Veteran, a father, and grand- father. He is one of the longest-held political prisoners on the planet today. In 2013 he began writing to his granddaughter Karina the series that would come to be known as Cartas a Karina. These are the letters of a man imprisoned for the crime of “seditious conspiracy,” the thought crime of wanting to see Puerto Rico free of foreign domination—the same kind of charge railed at Gandhi and Man- dela. He has maintained his political vision and humanity despite 35 years of dehumanizing imprisonment, and is widely regarded as the Mandela of Puerto Rico. López Rivera is a prolific writer as well as an accomplished and respected painter, a vocation begun during twelve years of solitary confinement.

This year marks the 120th anniversary of the U.S. invasion and occupation of Puerto Rico during the Spanish-U.S. war, which ended with the U.S. cap- turing Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Philippines and Guam. July 25, 1898, was the day when U.S. ships, com- manded by General Nelson A. Miles under orders of President William McKinley, landed in Guánica on the southwestern coast of Puerto Rico.
