Springtime germination and planting of cannabis seeds is a reasonably simple process, and unlike planting to grow under lights, a timed growing season is a bit more important. Seeds need to be sown no later than the middle of May for outside growing (allowing the minimum number of weeks for growth) since the rhythm for growing outside is provided by the seasonal cycle, and the plants will normally require 16 to 20 weeks to complete their life cycle. It is best to start all your seedlings in mid-March or early April, so as to allow for false starts, low germination rates, and the longest growing season possible. Prepare soil using 4 parts black potting soil, 1 part Perlite, and 2 parts composted matter to provide good soil fibre. For every mixed batch of soil, add in 1 cup of wood ash as well, and mix thoroughly. Fill and settle the 6” pots with soil, and sow a single seed in the center of each, and water them thoroughly, placing them under a green- house cover, in a sunny area facing south, and observe them until they pop through the soil.
