Juni 1986. In der Nähe eines Zeltplatzes am Zeuthener See ist ein PKW der Marke Lada abgestellt. Musik kurz hoch Erzähler: Im Wagen liegt eine Papierrolle mit einem Drehbuch zu einem Filmprojekt. Titel: „Bloody Heart“. Die Rückseite des Drehbuchs ist mit der Hand beschrieben – ein Abschiedsbrief. Fünf Tage später entdeckt die Polizei eine im Wasser treibende Leiche. Eine Obduktion findet statt. Das Ergebnis: Tod durch Ertrinken. Im Blut werden Spuren von Nitrazepam nachgewiesen, ein Schlaf- und Beruhigungsmittel. Musik weg O-Ton 01 Wiebke Reed Abends kam es in den Nachrichten, der „Aktuellen Kamera“, der amerikanische Sänger und Schauspieler Dean Reed ist bei einem tragischen Unfall gestorben. Und alle dachten, er sei vom Pferd gefallen oder irgend sowas. Erzähler: Tot. Die Stimme der Unterdrückten. Der amerikanische Rebell. Der Friedensaktivist. Der Kämpfer für die Entrechteten. Das Aushängeschild des Sozialismus. Es mangelte nicht an Etiketten für Dean Reed. Die Etiketten wurden zum Problem: Eine Stimme der Unterdrückten hat nicht freiwillig zu verstummen. Ein Rebell hört nicht freiwillig auf, zu rebellieren. Ein Aushängeschild nimmt sich nicht das Leben – nicht im Sozialismus. O-Ton 02: Wiebke Reed Es kam nachmittags schon ein Ehepaar, die um die Ecke hier wohnen. Sprecher: Wiebke Reed, Dean Reeds zweite Ehefrau O-Ton 02 (Fortsetzung) „Frau Reed, wir haben eine traurige Nachricht für Sie, eine sehr traurige“. ... “Der Dean ist tot.“ Ich bin fast ohnmächtig geworden. Das war so ein Mensch, der einfach noch gut im Leben stand. Und er sei ertrunken auf dem Weg zur DEFA. Dean ertrinkt nicht, der war – 3 – Rettungsschwimmer. In Aspen hat er im Sommer während der Highschool seinen Sommer verbracht als Rettungsschwimmer. Atmo: Wort „Rettungsschwimmer“ akustisch verstärken, als Echo, unterlegen mit: Musik: Dean Reed "Love your brother" – kurz freistehend, dann im Hintergrund O-Ton 03 Dean Reed Zum Beispiel jetzt war ich in Nicaragua, hab ich auch alles gesungen, aber am Ende auch politische Lieder, weil ich glaube der Kunst muss vieles sagen tun. Und muss Leute zum Weinen bringen, muss sie zum Lachen bringen, über sich selbst … Musik kurz hoch O-Ton 04 Dean Reed Zum Beispiel ich hab ein Film gedreht mit Anita Ekberg aus Schweden, ich hab ein Film gedreht mit Nadja Tiller aus die BRD, ich hab ein Film gedreht mit Yul Brynner, ich glaube das sind die berühmtesten mit denen ich gearbeitet habe. Musik kurz hoch O-Ton 05 Dean Reed Viele Leute sagen, Dean Reed ist der Protestsänger. Und ich sage: Nein nicht nur! Ich bin der Meinung, ich bin ein Liebesliedsinger. Aber es gibt viel Arten von Liebe. Es gibt Liebe für mein Kinder und alle Kinder der Welt. Es gibt Liebe für ein Spaziergang in ein Wald. Es gibt Liebe, romantische Liebe für meine Frau. Es gibt Liebe für meine Idealen, wo man kämpft dafür. Es gibt Liebe für den Frieden und ich glaube man soll über alles das sprechen. Und so ich sage es ganz klar: dass ich singe Rock 'n' Roll, ich singe Country und ich singe romantische Lieder und ich singe Protestlieder. Musik hoch bis Ende O-Ton 06 Steineckert Dean hatte sehr enge, sehr enge….der hatte ja fast gar keine Hüften, der hatte sehr enge Hosen an, sehr hoch geknöpft und einen einfachen Pullover. Sprecher: Gisela Steineckert, DDR-Lyrikerin und langjährige Freundin von Dean Reed in der DDR: – 4 – O-Ton 07 Steineckert (Fortsetzung) Und er strahlte mich an, als wäre ich seine wiedergefundene liebe Schwester. Und ich sagte ihm: Hi und Guten Tag und so. Und er umarmte mich und ging dann, an seiner Seite mehrere dunkle und blonde Damen. Ich guckte ihm hinterher und dachte: Naja, wie die Amis so sind. O-Ton 08 Wiebke Reed Er war ein wirklich gläubiger Sozialist und hatte auf diesem Festival mit seiner Gitarre und seinem weißen Rollkragenpullover, er war ein sehr schöner Mensch, hat da auf der Bühne gestanden und gesungen. Und ich hab mich verliebt. Erzähler: Ein junger, großer, schlaksiger Mann beeindruckt die Frauen in der DDR. Und in der ganzen Welt. Dean Reed ist weit herumgekommen. Er und seine Gitarre. So wollte er die Welt erobern. Naja, zunächst die Mädchen: O-Ton 09 Dean Reed Mit 12 Jahren hab ich mein erste Gitarre bekommen und aus Tradition in Colorado, jeder Cowboy, ich war ein junger Cowboy, jeder Cowboy kann eine Gitarre spielen und einige Lieder singen... Sprecher: Dean Reed in einer Sendung von Radio DDR im Juni 1984. O-Ton 10 Dean Reed Ich glaube, die erste Grund dafür war, dass ich wollte einige kleine Mädchens imponieren. Sicher, das war der Grund, dass ich angefangen habe zu singen. Erzähler: Der Junge mit der Gitarre erobert die Mädchen. Daran wird sich die nächsten Jahre nichts ändern. Singen, spielen und erobern. Bei den Mädchen gelingt das – doch gelingt das auch in Hollywood? O-Ton 11 Dean Reed Ich war erste zwei Jahre in Hollywood und dort ein Mann hat mich ein Art von adoptiert, der berühmteste Schauspiellehrer in Hollywood ... und er war ein Pazifist. Er war zwei Jahre in Gefängnis in USA aus politischen Gründe gewesen. Und dort war ich ein Pazifist, ich hab geweigert ein Soldat in USA zu sein. Das war mein erste Position. – 5 – Erzähler: Dean Reed wird in Hollywood ein politischer Mensch. Und Hollywood? Nichts gibt es dort so viel wie junge, gutaussehende Menschen, die Schauspieler werden wollen. Dean Reed ist einer von ihnen. O-Ton 12 Wiebke Reed Deswegen ist er dort ja auch weggegangen aus Hollywood. Er hatte dort einen Coach für zwei Jahre, Warner Brothers, da passierte nichts. Er war nicht der hochbegabte Schauspieler. Also, er war kein Robert Redford, Paul Newman, das war so seine Generation... Musik: Dean Reed "Our Summer Romance"– im Hintergrund Sprecher: Wiebke Reed: O-Ton 13 Wiebke Reed Plötzlich lernt er jemandem kennen, kriegt da ein Engagement nach Südamerika, Capitol Records, einen Plattenvertrag für sieben Jahre. Da ist er hingegangen und hat das gemacht. Musik hoch O-Ton 14 Wiebke Reed Fortsetzung Singen konnte er auch und hat sich selbst Lieder geschrieben, hat andere Songs gecovert, eben solche von Elvis oder von Frank Sinatra, wer immer damals gerade en vogue war. Und sein Freund, dieser Paton Price, den ich kennen gelernt habe in Hollywood, der hat gesagt: You idiot. Warum bleibst du nicht hier? Warum gehst du zu den Latinos, zu diesen Analphabeten, da wirst du nicht Schauspieler werden. Aber Dean war einfach ... der Ruhm und das "Auf der Bühne stehen und applaudiert kriegen", den "Applaus kriegen", das ist ja noch besser als am Film zu sein, da kriegst du ja nie Applaus ... Aber da auf der Bühne zu stehen, mit der Gitarre in der Hand zu singen mit einem Orchester und die Leute klatschen und toben ... Das war für ihn natürlich dann auch ein Labsal ... Das waren keine politischen Gründe. Einfach nur so. Da sing ich eben. Das kann ich auch. Musik kurz hoch, unter Erzähler weg Erzähler: Er erhält reichlich Applaus. Doch das genügt Dean Reed nicht. Er sieht etwas anderes und das berührt ihn – so erzählt er es Jahre später im DDR-Rundfunk: – 6 – O-Ton 15 Dean Reed Dort habe ich für das erste Mal mit meine eigene Augen die große Ungerechtigkeiten gegenüber die Völker von Südamerika durch Imperialismus gesehen. Ich hab gesehen Armut und Elend für das erste Mal. Und dort hab ich politisch sehr aktiv gearbeitet. Aber immer noch mit Angst vor das Wort Sozialismus oder Kommunismus oder Marxismus. Musik: Dean Reed "Caera" – kurz frei, dann im Hintergrund Erzähler: "Sozialismus". "Marxismus". Begriffe die in jener Zeit als große Versprechen für die eine Zukunft gelten, irgendwann. Und dann noch "Imperialismus". Ein Reizwort – besonders dort, wo Dean Reed aufgewachsen ist. Das scheint ihm egal. Zehntausende Menschen empfangen Dean Reed in Argentinien, als er dort 1961 auf Tournee geht. Er tritt in Fußballstadien auf, erhält eine eigene regelmäßige Fernsehshow. [Musik Ende] Einmal lädt er Walentina Tereschkowa aus der Sowjetunion in die Sendung ein, weltweit die erste Frau im All. Das sei „kommunistische Propaganda“, werfen ihm die argentinischen Machthaber vor. Dean Reed soll Sänger bleiben und Schauspieler. Er versteht nicht, weshalb er angefeindet wird – und er wird aus Argentinien ausgewiesen. Er geht nach Spanien, dann nach Italien. Er dreht Filme. Er singt. Aber es genügt ihm nicht, Künstler zu sein. Er erinnert sich an die Ungerechtigkeiten in Lateinamerika. Er bereist Chile und singt "Venceremos" – wir werden siegen, ein populäres chilenisches Kampflied. Es ist das Lied, mit dem Salvador Allende der erste sozialistische Präsident Chiles wird. Dean Reed findet Gefallen an Revolutionen. Die Welt scheint veränderbar. Dean Reed findet seine Aufgabe. O-Ton 16 Dean Reed Ich hab für eineinhalb Jahre in Chile gewohnt, gelebt gearbeitet. Ich war in Chile während dem Zeit von Unidad Popular. Ich war ein persönlicher Freund von Allende, von Pablo Neruda, von Victor Jara, von Millionen Menschen, die unbekannte Namen haben, aber unwahrscheinlich wichtig Menschen sind, weil sie ehrliche Menschen waren und mutige Menschen sind. Musik: Dean Reed "Wir sagen nein" – kurz frei, unter Erzähler weg Erzähler: Dean Reed trifft sich mit Che Guevara, Victor Jara, Jassir Arafat, Daniel Ortega. Film- aufnahmen zeigen ihn mit Gitarrenkoffer und Maschinengewehr. Oft zeigt er die erhobene rechte Faust. Künstler und Revolutionär. Ist es eine Pose? Vielleicht will er die Welt nicht verändern, aber er will dabei sein, wenn sie eine andere wird.
