Listed on these pages are the burial sites of personnel who served in the Confederate States Navy and Marine Corps during the war. Details have been obtained from various sources, as shown at the end of the list. It is to be assumed that there are errors in certain details and I invite readers to send in any corrections or additions to the list, which will be included in future updates, which will be posted periodically. John Adams, Ordinary Seaman, CSS Alabama, joined at Cape Town, August 15, 1863, reduced to Landsman, February 16, 1864; missing in action, June 19, 1864, during the engagement with the USS Kearsarge , off Cherbourg, France, presumed drowned. [1] George Addison, Armorer, CSS Alabama , born in Liverpool; missing in action, June 19, 1864, during the engagement with the USS Kearsarge , off Cherbourg, France, presumed drowned. [1] Edward Maffitt Anderson, Midshipman, CSS Alabama ; born in Savannah, Georgia; died on January 28, 1923, at Savannah, Georgia. [1] George Appleby, Yeoman, CSS Alabama born in New Brunswick, resided in Liverpool; reduced in rank to Seaman on May 21, 1863; killed in action, June 19, 1864, during the engagement with the USS Kearsarge , off Cherbourg, France. [1] Fred W. Arents, of Richmond, Virginia, Third Assistant Engineer, CSS Chattahoochee , killed aboard that vessel, when a boiler accidentally exploded on Wednesday, May 27, 1863, on the Apalachicola River, Florida. He is buried at the First United Methodist Church cemetery, Chattahochee, Florida. [5] Richard F. Armstrong, Lieutenant, CSS Alabama , born in Georgia; wounded, June 19, 1864, off Cherbourg, France, during the engagement with the USS Kearsarge . Died in 1904, at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. [1] Harrison Baker served in the CS Navy during the war. He was born on March 7, 1824 and died on January 5, 1904. He is buried at Magnolia Cemetery, East Baton Rouge, LA. [4] Raphael Barbee served in the CS Navy, aboard the CSS William H. Webb . He was born on February 21, 1842 and died on September 10, 1909. He is buried at Graceland Orange Grove Cemetery, Lake Charles, LA. [4] A.G. Bartelli, Captain's Steward, CSS Alabama, drowned June 19, 1864, off Cherbourg, France, during the engagement with the USS Kearsarge. [1] Marsden Bellamy was born on January 14, 1843 and died on December 1, 1909. During the war he served as Assistant Paymaster aboard the CSS Richmond. He is buried at the Oakdale Cemetery, Wilmington, North Carolina. [5] Charles H. Berry, of Tampa, Florida, Quartermaster, CSS Chattahoochee , killed aboard that vessel, when a boiler accidentally exploded on Wednesday, May 27, 1863, on the Apalachicola River, Florida. He is buried at the First United Methodist Church cemetery, Chattahochee, Florida. [5] William B. Bilbro, of Columbus, Georgia, Pilot, CSS Chattahoochee , killed aboard that vessel, when a boiler accidentally exploded on Wednesday, May 27, 1863, on the Apalachicola River, Florida. He is buried at the First United Methodist Church cemetery, Chattahochee, Florida. [5] Charles H. Bishop, Private, Company B, CSMC; born December 15, 1844; resided in Beaufort County, North Carolina; died September 18, 1877; buried First Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Washington, North Carolina. [8] Samuel Peters Blanc was a Midshipman in the Confederate Navy. He is shown as being Executive Officer of the ill fated CSS Chattahoochee in May 1864, and commanded the torpedo boat Hornet , on the James River, Virginia, in January, 1865. He died in 1888 and is buried at St. Louis Cemetery, New Orleans, LA. [4] George Washington Bowen, Private, CSMC; born December 30, 1833; died July 21, 1898; buried family cemetery, Route 32, Washington County, North Carolina, over the border from Beaufort County. [8] William Bradford, Ordinary Seaman, CSS Alabama , missing in action, June 19, 1864, off Cherbourg, France, presumed drowned. [1] Harrison Graves Brady, Landsman, CSS Baltic , was born on July 29, 1844. He had also served as a Private in Company D, 19 th Mississippi Infantry. He died on July 19, 1908, and is buried at the Barbee Cemetery, Coahoma County, Mississippi. Brand, Fireman, died at Elmira Prison Camp, New York, on January 4, 1865, and is buried at the cemetery there. [9] Daniel Gonzalez Brent, 2 nd Lieutenant, Confederate States Marine Corps, was born on April 17, 1842, and died on November 28, 1918. He is buried in St. Michael's Cemetery, Pensacola, Florida. [5] Samuel Brewer, Seaman, CSS Alabama , aged 23 in 1862; born in Liverpool; transferred to CSS Tuscaloosa on June 21, 1863; died in Liverpool, 1886. [1] William Briggs, Corporal, Company C, CSMC; born Baltimore, Maryland; enlisted at Mobile, Alabama, August 15, 1861; died at Camp Beall, Drewry's Bluff, Virginia, June 22, 1862; buried Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia. [8] William Browne, CSMC, died April 4, 1865, at the Elmira Prison Camp, New York, and is buried there. [9] John Buckley, Ordinary Seaman, CSS Alabama , missing in action, June 19, 1864, off Cherbourg, France, presumed drowned. [1] Levi Francis Buckner, Private, Company D, CSMC; conscripted Blount County, Alabama, March 3, 1863; died November 11, 1923; buried Hullett's Chapel Cemetery, Springfield, Alabama. [8] James Dunwody Bulloch, CS Navy. Born near Savannah, Georgia, June 25, 1823. Well known Confederate naval agent who operated out of England during the war. Gave an account of his services in the two volume work THE SECRET SERVICE OF THE CONFEDERATE STATES IN EUROPE. Remained in England after the war, as he was excluded from the amnesty. Died on January 7, 1901 and is buried at Toxteth Park, Liverpool, England. [2] Edward Dean Burrell, Seaman, CSS Alabama, captured June 19, 1864, and paroled. After the war, joined the merchant marine service and died at sea, November 28, 1865. Buried in Colaba, Bombay, India. [2] Ceorge Caigh, who served in the Confederate States Navy, is buried at Chestnut Street Cemetery, Apalachicola, Florida. [5] John Caren, CS Navy, died in March 1914. Buried in Anfield Cemetery, Liverpool, England, plot 7, grave 642, Church of England. [2] Dominic Cattinetti, who served in the Confederate States Navy, is buried at Chestnut Street Cemetery, Apalachicola, Florida. [5] Henry de Ballatin Claiborne was a Lieutenant in the Confederate Navy, aboard the CSS Atlanta. He was born in 1838, died in 1872 and is buried at the Metairie Cemetery, Metairie, LA. [4] John E. Clark, Seaman, CSS Resolute , was born on February 11, 1837 and died January 12, 1929. He is buried at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery, New Orleans, LA. [4] J.W. Clark served in the Confederate Navy during the war. He died on November 11, 1864 in New Orleans, but his exact burial site is unknown. [4] John F. Clooney was a builder in the Confederate Navy during the war. He was born on October 14, 1836, died April 22, 1924, and is buried at Graceland Orange Grove Cemetery, Lake Charles, LA. [4] Charles Colson, Ordinary Seaman, CSS Alabama , born in England; missing in action, June 19, 1864, off Cherbourg, France, presumed drowned. [1] Edward Conn, of Apalachicola, Florida, Coal Heaver, CSS Chattahoochee , killed aboard that vessel, when a boiler accidentally exploded on Wednesday, May 27, 1863, on the Apalachicola River, Florida. He is buried at the First United Methodist Church cemetery, Chattahochee, Florida. [5] William Conn, Seaman aboard the CSS General Beauregard, died on May 9, 1862, and is buried at Soldier's Rest, Elmwood Cemetery, Memphis, Tennessee. [3] Edward Cope, Seaman, CSS Chattahoochee , had also served in the Confederate Army. He was born on September 8, 1841, died on September 3, 1894, and is buried at St. John's Cemetery, Pensacola, Florida. [5] W.D. Crocker, Seaman CSS Albemarle, died at the Elmira Prison Camp, New York, on March 25, 1865, and is buried there. [9] Thomas M. Crossan, (1819-1865), Lieutenant in the North Carolina Navy, is buried at the Somerville Cemetery, Warrenton, North Carolina. [5] Thomas C. Cummings, Third Assistant Engineer, CSS Alabama ; born in New York; accidentally killed at Saldanha Bay, South Africa, on August 3, 1863. Originally buried at Saldanha Bay, but remains removed in 1994 and reburied at Columbia, Tennessee. [1] & [5] Joseph Diggs served in the Confederate Navy and also as a Private in Company B, Chalmette Regiment, Louisiana Militia.
