Part 1, "How Do We Begin?" shares i story to develop the scenario. Part 2, "How Do We Set Forth?" suggests a definition of collaboration and the use of the metaphor of a "journey." Part 3, "How Do We Journey Together?" proposes four stages of collaboration. Part 4, "How Do We End?" suggests tools for collaboration. Appendices list 19 factors influencing successful collaboration, annotated resources, and documentation forms and worksheets. He has worked closely with community members and leaders from all sectors: education, dhilanthropy, law enforcement, religion, government, business, health care, and human services. With over twenty year:, of national experience, Michael has been successful at bringing together people of diverse talents and perspectives so they can achieve common visions and take joint actions. Prior to foLnding Synoptics, Michael was Director of the Community Collaboration Venture for the A. H. Wilder Foundation in Saint Paul, Minnesota. In addition, he taught for four years in Japan and has been a program manager with the United Way. Michael has a Master's Degree in Applied Behavioral Sciences. Karen Ray Karen Ray is President of Karen Ray Associates, which specializes in staff training and organizational development. With a Master's Degree in Applied Behavioral Sciences, her work focuses on collaboration, team building, and leadership. Active with Metropolitan State University in Saint Paul, Minne- sota, Karen teaches team building and communications courses. Before beginning her practice in 1983, Karen was executive director of a literacy agency. During these years, she developed collaborations to improveservices for illiterate adults and modify legislation regarding adult education. VAUGHT, President Emeritus Brigadier General, USAF (Ret.) Brigadier General Wilma L. Vaught, USAF, Retired, is President of the Board of Directors of the Women In Military Service For America Memorial Foundation, Inc. Her last military assignment was as Commander of the US Military Entrance Processing Command, North Chicago, IL, where she served from June 1982, until her retirement in August 1985. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Women’s History Museum and serves on the Virginia War Memorial Foundation Board of Trustees. Following retirement, she worked as a consultant with the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization as well as with industry. She speaks around the US on leadership and management and is a frequent guest on radio and television programs. A native of Illinois, General Vaught earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana from which she received the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award in 1983; she also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, an Honorary Doctorate of Public Affairs from Columbia College, SC; and an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from the National Graduate School. She is the first Air Force woman graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. During her military career, she held various positions in the comptroller field at Barksdale AFB, LA; Zaragoza AFB, Spain; McCoy AFB, Orlando, FL; HQ, Military Assistance Command, Saigon, Vietnam; USAF Logistics Command, Wright Patterson AFB, Dayton, OH; the Air Staff, the Pentagon, Washington, DC; and she was the Deputy Chief of Staff, Comptroller, USAF Systems Command, Andrews AFB, MD.
